Video games with enough story depth and lore that could be made into a t.v.series?

This has probably already been asked dozens of times over but what video game franchises do you think could make a successful transition into a long-running engrossing series?

The obvious choices for me would be: Mass Effect, Halo (as long as they borrow heavily from the books), BioShock (more the creation and running of Rapture and when they run out of ideas for that use the last two seasons or so to cover the downfall)... i'm sure I could think of more but i'd rather hear everybody else's input.

This this this this! Fund it! Take all my money!

The rise and fall of Rapture would make a fantastic drama series! I wonder who would be good enough to play Andrew Ryan...

Legacy of Kain would be ideal i suppose. Though i have to admit i don't tend to watch many tv shows outside of ones made by hbo.

I'll say Alpha Protocol (before, during, & after the events of the game; namely, AP's reformation or hunt for Thornton or something afterwards).

Knights of the Old Republic would be pretty cool. It'd be nice to have some Star Wars media that fans can actually be proud of again.

Fallout would make a pretty cool series, too, it's always had good characters and variety of good stories and action.

Bioshock, definitely, a rise and fall of Rapture miniseries would be a neat idea, though stymied somewhat by the fact that you know exactly how it's going to end.

Batman Arkham City, really. But only because I miss Batman: The Animated Series.

I would totally be all over a Half-Life TV series. Also Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XI (that is not a typo, I do mean Final Fantasy 11: Online) would be sweet as TV shows.

Halo could fit in like you said. It does have lots of lore enough to fit in with any time period.

-Rain Forest Wars could be an interesting one.

-Another side-story about ODSTs or even standard marines during the Covenant Conflict or before during the colony insurrections.

-Mini-Series about the Spartan II or Spartan III programs. (though SPIII and II would most liekly be: The Fall of Reach and Ghosts of Onyx the tv show versions.)

Personally I would love to see eithert the Rain Forest Wars or the ODSTs and such during the colony insurrections. Or even after the war.

In fact for the colony issurrectios they could end the series by saying how Harvest was attacked.

Mass Effect is an obvious answer. It's structure is very episodic already, I think. It would be very easy to have a huge ensemble cast with character-centric episodes in the vein of Lost. It definitely lends itself better as a TV series rather than a movie.

Warhammer 40,000 and Fantasy. It wouldn't have the deepest story but I'll be damned if it doesn't have the 'deepest' lore.

Metro 2033. To be fair it was a book before...
Skin, you must have telepathy because you've read my mind.

What any TV series needs is a setting with well-developed lore that act as pants for characters to develop. Mass Effect and Bioshock would definitely work, but how about Knights of the Old Republic?

Arcanum. That's my answer to everything though, and it probably isn't even true. It has a good premise though. I'd watch it.

Yeah, Mass Effect and Bioshock are probably the best ones. I will add Assassin's Creed, as well, though. I don't care for the gameplay in them and can't sit through them but would like to see the story presented. I really like idea behind it. Depending on what they do with Dragon Age 3, it could be good enough, but it would probably end up on SyFy with a horrible budget and suck.

Frankly, I don't think 'depth and lore' translate very well to movies. Something big like the Mass Effect games would have to be cut down tremendously, to the point where people who played the game would be disappointed with the lack of content while the regular movie goers wouldn't be able to get into it enough to enjoy the necessary exposition.

I don't particularly want any video game made into a movie, and I'm not sure where people get the notion that it is a good idea in the first place. They are such vastly different mediums that many things get lost, or destroyed, in translation. Moreover, making movie copies of games lacks originality and thought. Why would I want to see a non-interactive, stunted version of a game that I already played?

I guess in some ways it translates what we believe to be incredible experiences into other mediums so that new audiences can experience what we've enjoyed. Rarely has this ever worked out for the benefit of either group in reality. Remember Super Mario Bros?

I think everyone can agree that movies don't translate the story of video games very well that's why I chose a longer lasting medium a.k.a a TV series with hour long episodes. Like you said almost no video game could be translated in to a 1 1/2 to 2 hour movie without someone shooting up a movie thater lol...

Super Mario Bros (whether you speak of the movie or the deploreable cartoon show) was chosen only for its already global popularity much like Sonic and not one thought was given to making engaging storylines that gamers would enjoy... the one sole thought to ANY Mario Bros tv show or movie was $$$$$$$$$.

You sound skeptical because of how the tv show would be paced and how much content would be left out.

Fallout: New Vegas could make an interesting TV series.
You'd have some episodes where you can show off the horrors of living in a post apocalyptic world. Some episodes where you show off people and how brilliantly they've adapted to a world that got nuked. And some episodes where a guy in a trench coat and a cowboy hat blows off mutants faces with a shotgun.
'Least that's how'd I make it. It'd also star Clint Eastwood from 40 years ago though...

... oh gods ... um ... they're already terrible at making games into movies, I'm pretty sure any TV series based off a game would be enough to melt my eyes out of their sockets ... let's try not to give anyone any ideas, kay?

I'll also jump on the fallout bandwagon... It could make an interesting series, delving into vault life a bit more! Having a main character that we watch take on the world... and some of the experiences he comes across in the real world! Yep, that would definately get my vote! Definately if they come acros Harold at some point... with his weird cult! :p
