]Erm... I'm pretty sure you're pulling my leg, because you know the Yu yevon fight is unlosable because you get auto revived, I couldn't possibly lose there. I also don't consider it a boss. I was talking about the boss before it. Tidus' daddy.
Yeah, you know, I totally read that wrong. Oh well XD

The worst thing is that it's not just scaled, it's randomly scaled. The game generates enemy stats at the beginning of the fight, or thereabouts. This means that occasionally the game will generate enemies that are essentially impossible to kill, which turns Dragon Age into a game of repetition, fighting the same battle over and over until it generates enemies that you are able to hold your own against.

Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins.
DA:O!!! A LOT of people sat there and told me that I was just "not playing it right." and like a lot of other people in my situation, I told them I was, in fact, playing it just fine. Each new fight was a unique challenge. Each circumstance I discovered a way to win. Each time I thought, "Ok, maybe now I have a proven strategy!" but then in the next battle, I'd find out that my strategy was only useful in the previous one, and I had to develop something completely new. I felt as though every fight was a boss battle, and to be honest, some of the easier fights WERE the boss battles. I just wish it didn't take 8 hours of senseless, consistently challenging fighting for me to get to them. I'm all for a deep, engrossing RPG, but I'm not ok with playing an RPG for 50 hours and only have a tenth of that time involve story progression and character development. the rest felt like grinding, which is silly considering it's all scaled. I just got bored with it, frankly. Why should I constantly teeter on getting my ass kicked when there's other games that celebrate my mastery of their combat system, rather than make me feel like a noob again every five minutes?
The battles in DA:O were really unbalanced, and the lag between your command + your character's actions make it really easy to get into a bad position quickly. I can't even tell you how many times I wiped with "take potion" queued up on each character. I played through on PC and got through it with the tactical view, good controls and almighty quick save, but I bought it on 360 and found it super tedious and frustrating on normal. Unless you want to save after each battle it's so easy to lose like half an hour's work in a few seconds.

It feels like Mass Effect has the same problem as well. Since it's game over when only your character dies, I found that I had to spend most of my time hiding behind cover, ordering my teammates to their deaths and reviving them. Car sections are exercises in frustration too.

Other than those, I found GTA IV stupidly difficult due to lack of checkpoints. I'm also having trouble with the Halo series because I'm not used to the ammo shortages, enemy spamming and insta-deaths from Hunters and energy sword Elites (though it's my first real FPS, excluding RPG-FPS like Borderlands and Fallout 3).

Having mostly just skimmed the first page, I am disappointed by the lack of Ninja Gaiden and Battletoads. Screw those games.

Purely difficulty based? Honestly, I'd say Crysis. I got stuck on the level where you have to pilot a tank that controls like, well, a tank. It gets destroyed by something like 3 shots from enemy tanks. No health regen. You go up against like 6 enemy tanks and about 10 guys with rocket launchers. After trying for about an hour I just gave up, the only thing the game had going for it was the graphics.
Just get out of the tank. Stealth and speed run your way through the battle.
Nanosuit > tank.

OT: (not that that was off topic):
Mass Effect.
Insanity difficulty.
Engineer with sniper rifle.
Punching, grenades and no-scope sniping only.
Anyone who can even get off of the citadel like this wins everything ever.

Almost all of them. Out of the 100+ games I own the only four I have completed without cheats are: Spyro 2, Spyro 3, Apiderman 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I would say persona 3 and 4 but i only gave up on them due to the battles getting so so boring and tedious.

Shame, since its one of the few jrpgs worth looking into for story and characters.

ON TOPIC: Nes bionic commando
Try Wild Arms 3. I am really loving it. Which is a point in it's favor already since I normally hate JRPGs.

I sort of want dragon Age 2.... but I'd just feel embarassed entering into a world I grew so tired of before. I mean, I really liked Dragon Age's fiction, but I'd feel stupid having not beaten the first game.
I'm not that far into Dragon Age 2 but the combat is significantly more bearable than the first game. From what I've seen so far it doesn't really bear much relation to the plot of Origins that much either. That could change further into the game though.

The Last Remnant. Having no direct control over your units makes it hard to beat bosses that are deliberately unbalanced.
This. The fact that the computer randomly determines what commands you can give each turn, including whether or not you can heal. I had to stop before i destroyed my pad.

Hmmm... I'd have to say on the difficult side of the equation is was Galerians: Ash, the game wasn't necessarily difficult in skill level required so much as "grind for six hours or die" difficulty. I dropped it not long after the mission where you venture out of the compound for the first time because I hit another time to grind and couldn't take it anymore. I may pick that one up again someday.

OK, no one say Daemon Souls! (I refuse to use the s at the end of daemon ><)
1) Isn't it "Demons Souls"?
Yes it is I guess, the a in Daemon is kind of worked in from school... And Demons Souls... If they are indeed talking about demons and not some guy named Demon, it's pretty weird to write Demons Souls, isn't it? I mean Demon Souls, it's referring to several souls of demons, Daemons Soul is referring to a single soul of a demon. What is Demons Souls referring to? Why the s after both words? My English may be lacking here, so if I'm missing something, fill me in! It also rolls very, very poorly off your tongue... The two other alternatives would be much better... Remove an S I say!
Demon and daemon, they're essentially the same word (one the modern iteration the other the old latin), though most would say demon has picked up a lot of other definitions and uses in sentences in modern times while daemon isn't included in that.

Saying "Demon's Souls" is fine enough, albeit a little awkward when you stare at it too much and think how demon is singular but they attach the plural souls with the possessive as if they have multiple souls within them, but on more thought that could make sense in context of gameplay. And then I tell myself to stop.
To make it seem more logical in the above thought line add an "A" makes it easier and more... grammar friendly.
"A demon's soul"
"A demon's souls"

Psychonauts. I love the game, but the difficulty curve near the end of the game makes it astonishingly hard, all of a sudden, and without warning.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!! Listen, I don't want to troll but you should really try to beat Psychonauts, it's one of the best games of all time. Trust me it is worth it.

Sonic heroes, got to the stage with the albatross and fucking gave up; Dragon age origins, when THE FIRST FUCKING LEVEL takes you more than five tries to pass you know the story ain't worth it. Killzone 2 on "veteran" good. god. X3, gave up though it was a VERY PRETTY game.

I've made a personal vendetta to beat all the CoDs on Veteran Single player, and succeeded thus far (though Spec Ops in MW2 were a bit of trouble ¬_____¬)

did give up on General RAAM on insane in GoW. Came back in a year and got the bastard though. 14 sniper bullets to the head... Christ.

Alone in the Dark (the newest one). Couldn't get past one of the first puzzle due to the physics engine not cooperating.

And for some reason I cannot get past a certain point in Halo 1, on the first level on Legendary. Apart from that point (when you have to go up a staircase surrounded by Covenant troops), I've beaten the game and everything, but that particular bit is a no-go.

I can't think of any game I've given up on due to difficulty since I had internet access.
I unusually die/fail 20-30 times, try some other approaches. Sometimes I turn to looking up a walkthrough, faq, or video if I feel stuck, I wouldn't rule out turning down the difficulty but can't remember the last time I did.

I used to get stuck in games all the time back before I had internet access, Might & Magic 3, Wastelands, and Eye of the Beholder all come to mind. Even back then I don't think I ever finished an adventure game (eg Space Quest, Hero's Quest) without a walkthrough or a friend telling me how to get past something.

Prototype, solely because of the end boss.
Why are they attacking me when I'm trying to kill the thing rampaging across the aircraft carrier, whislt trying to stop the entire place blowing to Kingdom-Fucking-Come. [sub]Morons...[/sub]
i found the end boss to be the easiest part of the game. i wouldnt call it a hard game, i would call it frustrating as all hell! i spent most of the time shouting (why the fuck are you attacking me?! theres a monster the size of a small building right there, am i really the biggest threat?!
I had the wrong power upgrades and I spent too much time messing about having fun and elbow dropping civilians. I mostly tried to take it down with helicopters, but gave up before I had to end up buying a new controller.
ah. yeah i had heard people complain about how hard the final boss was so i was picking my upgrades carefully. by the time i got to the boss i let the army chip away half of his health and then hit him with 3 super attacks and he was done

Neverwinter Nights 2 - I'm stuck in some dungeon where I keep dying (on easy difficulty!). When they advertise something as being "just like a table-top D&D game, but with pretty graphics!" they need to realise that's not a good thing! I just couldn't get the hang of it.
