Straightfoward question , what game(s) have you given up on soley because it was too hard. For me it was Resonance of Fate , i don't know if i was just playing it poorly but i just kept getting my ass kick , on regular random encounters :(

OK, no one say Daemon Souls! (I refuse to use the s at the end of daemon ><)

Age of Mythology is pretty much impossible on the hardest, at least for me XD. I couldn't take it.

Well, I did give up on my 3rd playthrough of ME1 as an Egineer because of the insane difficulty, even on normal (I swear, that games is one of the most imbalanced games I have ever played). I also gave up on Overlord because it was too difficult (mainly do to the horrible minion A.I. and controls). I gave up on Twisted Metal: Black because it was too difficult (mainly because I could not get a hang of the gameplay. That game is not newbie friendly at all). I often give up on games because the last boss/area is controller-smashingly difficult. That is all I can think of at the moment.

I gave up on Demon's Souls for a short period when I accidentally made the final level Pure Black, and was using a very sloppy build. You'd be surprised how much easier that game is when you play it again with more knowledge/experience, though, so I made it back and overcame it pretty easily.

I think the longest I completely abandoned due to difficulty was Shinobi for PS2, but I did end up finishing it a couple summers ago.

I still haven't 100%ed Super Meat Boy, though I plan to. There are a couple Dark Worlds that are giving me a very hard time.

Dragon Age: Origins, Amnesia, TF2, Mount and Blade. These are all the recent ones.

Alright, this may not count since it's a modded game and as such it's not meant to be perfectly balanced, but Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is RUTHLESS with new players, especially on your first visit to Oblivion and the subsequent counter-strike on the raided village. You may start thinking it's easy, but once you get cornered in the Count's castle with a fuckload of enemies you just can't hope to defeat well, that's a different story. Also, the chests in that mod can be booby trapped with skullfucking magic spells that will straight murder you in the eye if you just try to open them, with no way of telling if it's actually trapped.

On the same line I've always thought of Morrowind to be really hard. Maybe it's because I tend to choose ranged weapons, but Jesus it's hard to just HIT anything, not to mention the goddamn Assassin that attacks you the first time you sleep once you install Tribunal, regardless of your level and skills. The whole game feels not just difficult, but straight broken.

EDIT: Oh, and Mass Effect 2. Hard. Vanguard. I don't know if it gets easier once you practice with the class, but damn

Vanquish. I just can't maneuver during that power slide (or whatever they called it) while at the same time aiming and shooting at specific targets (all with different buttons).

my thumbs just don't have that kind of dexterity. I am so much more comfortable with a mouse and keyboard. hell i struggled to finish Uncharted 2 on normal since my aiming is so poor with those sticks.

Oddworld: Abe's Odyssee - Propobly the most difficult platformer ever made
Was it harder than Exoddus? I found that one mostly pretty easy but never played Odyssee. It is possibly my favourite game of all time, though.

Prototype, solely because of the end boss.
Why are they attacking me when I'm trying to kill the thing rampaging across the aircraft carrier, whislt trying to stop the entire place blowing to Kingdom-Fucking-Come. [sub]Morons...[/sub]

Super Meat Boy. Absolutely loved the game, beat the final boss and that was it. The bonus levels are just too damn hard.

Prototype has an annoying habit of giving you all these amazing powers, then throwing enemies at you who are virtually immune to those powers - e.g. the big boss in Times Square who I took out primarily with hijacked tanks. The final end boss I took out by throwing things at him (with Muscle Mass on admittedly, but still, just chucking stuff at him.)

OT: I took a 2 year or longer break from Return to Castle Wolfenstein because of one incredibly annoying stealth mission. More recently Saints Row's time trial mini-games (that you need to do to unlock the story missions) soured me on that game.

The Last Remnant. Having no direct control over your units makes it hard to beat bosses that are deliberately unbalanced.

The first game that springs to mind is Soul Calibur. It has a story mode where all of the characters basically fight their way around the world, but most fights have a twist. E.g. you can only hit an opponent while he's in the air, you must destroy his/her weapon or you have to knock them out of the ring. Three characters had a task where you had to perform some combos that I simply couldn't pull off no matter how hard I tried. :(

Other games I pretty much gave up on immediately: TF2 and L4D, because the pace is too fast for me; apparently I am only acceptable at longer ranges and with more accurate weapons (like in Counter-Strike). And Modern Warfare (single player) because I suck at seeing my opponents (stupid camouflage).
Oh, and also one of the first Tomb Raider games for the PS1. Me and my brother simply couldn't figure out what we were supposed to do.

The game is hell

I have to agree with that. Honestly, if you don't get any 'Limit Breaks' (I forget the name the game gave them), you were certain to lose the battle. If you got 2-3, then you win easily.
