Oh, and also one of the first Tomb Raider games for the PS1. Me and my brother simply couldn't figure out what we were supposed to do.
Was that the one where she was a little girl? I could never figure out what to do on that game. :(

I haven't played Evil Twin for about four years now. I keep meaning to go back but I really don't want to have to use a guide for that thing. *Grumble, grumble.*

I have two examples. One of them was rented though.
- Battlestar Galactica (PS2): If I may say so myself, I'm very good at flight games, but the mission where the Galactica hides in the tail of a comet was absolutely insane. Not impossible, mind you, and I'd have probably succeeded eventually, but at that point, it had ceased to actually be fun, so I figured it just plain wasn't worth it.
- Star Trek: Shattered Universe (PS2): Unfortunately, the 12th mission in Shattered Universe pretty much is broken. As I remember it, you can either destroy the Orion capital ships attacking the Excelsior and let the Excelsior get caught in the explosion, or let the Excelsior deal with them itself and get destroyed. It's meta level kobayashi maru, I guess >_>

None. Not retail games anyway. Loads of flash games I abandoned because of their difficulty though. N [http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/n_ninja] is probably the best example, it's insanely frustrating.
N is the chief reason I don't play games like Super Meat Boy.

OT: After something like N, I never really bothered with games I couldn't complete. I just don't find any satisfaction in completing a game that frustrates the shit out of me. Sure, you can call me a pansy or a little *****, but I don't enjoy breaking my controllers with crowbars, I just wanna enjoy the ride.

While not solely due to difficulty, I gave up on protoype when I couldn't beat one of the bosses.

I'd forgotten about that one - I just replayed it - yeah I gave up too. lol
I just don't get it; it's not my thing. I am reasonably good at most FPS': CoD, HL, CS, Moh and I was exceptionally good at CoD 3. I don't get TF2.

A TBS here and there, I suppose. Finishing ADOM and IWBTG has given me a lot of tolerance.

Star Trek: Legacy, I couldn't get past the early NextGen mission where you're supposed to prevent the stellar debris from hitting the various planets.
Same, such a game ruiner, I wish there was a level skip available, but there wasn't. Or even a hack to make the debris less heavy, or non-moving, ect, that all would've made it extre easy, but anyway, there'll be another one soon.

Another for me would be Final Fantasy XIII, which I'm hoping to go back and try again at some stage, I had a party of 5 split to a party of 3 and 2, and couldn't get past a specific boss with the two characters, after 5 attempts gave it up, probably should've grabbed a walkthrough though.

I don't think I've ever stopped playing a game because of difficulty... I've always triumphed eventually ^^

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dwarf Fortress...
That's a fucking brutal games, learning it took me a week and I've yet to keep a fortress alive more than a few in games years...

But I suppose you'd have to be crazy to play it in the first place.
You deserve a badge for simply learning that game. It is apparently so great, but it has far FAR too much depth. At least for the average gamer. Heard wonderful stories about it though.
Its pretty rewarding when you manage to get past that extreme "first" step of actually understanding anything. Requires quite a bit of "study" to know the basics just to survive in the short term.. even harder to do longer-term stuff work well.

Killing goblins for fun and profit, "dispose" of dwarf nobles in more or less clever/fun/reckless ways and pissing off elves never gets old.

Plus building huge, sprawling fortresses with countless riches and traps is a lot of fun too.

-- on topic -
Diablo2 on hell difficulty is ridiculously hard. Never managed to get past half of act 1, no matter the class/build i did. I care even less about "optimal gear", i just used whatever i could get.

Sea Legends (dos) was very hard too, once you lose your frigate to the scripted event to spanish warships.. i never could quite get back on my feet.

Nethack - kinda like DF, except withotu building and about as much random deaths.

NWN2 - i nearly gave up on the githyanki "safehouse" quest in the big city. It was a small house. Supposed to have a few Giths in a "safehouse" (so i expect a dozen of them at most), there are like 50 of them, the place is HUUUUUUUGE, and i kept losing to the last team of casters... but i kept going.. All i remeber is that i got fed up with the game once i kicked the ass of some orcs/trolls/whatever in some mountain/cave a bit later. It was so boring.

The incredible machine (dos) - i cat remeber wich puzzle number it was, pretty advanced one thtat i know. But "that" one i got stuck on for YEARS and simply couldnt beat it or progress because of it. All i remember is that at the end there is a cat and a fish, and you must make the cage fall on the cat (i think).

I'm a wuss alright?
I take very, very long breaks between playthroughs of that game. I can make it through most of it on the first two difficulties, but that second level boss on hard is just too much.

I have never given up on a video game due to difficulty. I have given up on games because they're unplayable.. And I have given up on games because I get distracted by something else, stop playing and when I come back to the game a few months later, I can't really start from my last save since I have no clue WTF is going on and have no desire to start over from the beginning.. But no.. I have never given up on a game due to difficulty..

None that I can think of. I normally quit a game for a few days and then play again and breeze through the part that I was having difficulty with :\
