Godfather 2. It was fun, the business mechanic kept me going and using your foot soldiers to take business adds length to the game. The audio was REALLY good too. The shooting noices were the best I've ever heard
I really enjoyed Godfather 2 when I played it. Only problem was the difficulty. Too dang easy once you get enough momentum. I swear I smiled when enemy families would take over my businesses, which just meant I got to take em back.

Fallout 3. I was not a fan of the genre, but it was a very highly regarded game so I gave it a try anyway. Glad I did.

Red Faction Armageddon, i didn't like the previous title, but this one was pure fun, even if the storyline was cheesy as hell, but if you can ignore that it's a lot of chaotic fun.

Fallout 3 I was surprised I actually enjoyed it. Played Morrowind and found it boring as hell and didn't bother with Oblivion. (rented Oblivion since then but found it boring and stopped very early on) I also really liked the first 2 Fallouts so was rather surprised that Fallout 3 was actually fun considering how hardcore Fallout 1 and 2 fan boys seem to dislike Fallout 3.

Nier, my brother hated the game but I rented it anyway and got to say was amazed by some aspects of the game such as the plot twist near the end and just how to me at least it seems to be a brilliant parody of various video games and gameplay.

Magic: The Gathering.

Tried it originally on the XBLA and actually got on quite well with it; and have recently purchased the new one via Steam.

Couple of games every now is very enjoyable, but I don't think I'll ever be a full convert in the sense of getting into "deep" strategy or playing for real. Just a tickle every now and then.

This thread is for games that you thought you were going to hate , but surprisingly you enjoyed.

For me it was Alpha protocol , i usually hate anthing that is 3rd person shooter or stealthy-ish , like mass effect , resident evil 5 ( i liked RE4 though ) , gears of war , splintercell , syphon filter , etc... I bought alpha protocol for 9 dollars new at best buy , it was most likely a error on their part because now its up to $30 . Anyways , when i played it i found it to be pretty fun , and i REALLY liked the main character , and the skills and whatnot. Anyways , all this to say is that Alpha protocol took me by surprise and i really enjoyed the game even though before playing it i thought it was going to suck.

Your turn
@OP - Wow, can't believe you liked Alpha Protocol like I did. I wasn't interested in the game right up until I played it. Since then I've played it around 5 times, even though I've never played more than one or two other games more than once.

It rocked, and I would pass up Mass Effect 2 for it any day.

The Godfather 2 is a pretty good game. I have to agree that it was a bit easy though. Have either of you ever checked out the multiplayer? It's rather fun as well.

OT: Probably Red Dead Redemption. I'm usually not interested in the whole western thing, but I really like RDR.

I can't remember is name but the first RTS I ever played. When I saw it I was like "A game were I don't shoot or kill anything myself? Thumbs down" Then I played it because I was bored and got really into it. Controlling the lives of hundreds of soldiers and leveling the enemy base with awesome machine. My computer overheated more than once.

Deadly Premonition - Never thought I'd ending up loving a game with terrible controls and outdated graphics. Loved the Twin Peaks references too.

Saints Row 2 - Played the first one briefly and thought nothing of it. When Yahtzee gave it glowing praise (a rare occurence!) I got curious by the sequel, saw it in the bargain bin and took a chance. Needless to say I ended up loving it, never have I had so much in a game for a long time.

Phoenix Wright - The whole premise sounded silly and quite frankly dull, but I bought it in an airport since there was nothing else there worth buying for my flight home. I've been hooked to the series ever since.

Minecraft. I had heard people gush about it and seen a few videos, and while its appeal didn't seem unfathomable it didn't look interesting to me. A friend of mine bought me a copy, I jumped onto his server (which was empty at the time) and after five minutes it crashed - I was still feeling lukewarm at best.

But when I booted up single player for the first time, with the Minecraft wiki tutorial, I had a blast.

Terraria. When I first saw some gameplay I instantly didn't like it, but after watching some more, I decided to give it a try because it was only cheap, so I bought it off steam.

It's great!

It was a newer Spyro the Dragon game, but I don't remember the exact title. It was the one with Cinder in it as the main boss, and you had four different elemental based breath attacks.

Despite the weird names for the random bad guys (Fisty Lizardtwister? Really?), the game play was actually quite addicting. I was surprised at the big name cast they got to do the voices, with such illustrious names like Elijah Wood, Gary Oldman, and David Spade.

Bioshock. When I first saw the first gameplay vidoes it looked like it was trying to be a Deus Ex wannabe set in a underwater city. It looked slow, tedious and and something about how it was described just turned me right off it. Then I played the demo on the ps3 about a year after it had been released on xbox and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Somewhere along the way from those early days it had developed a creepy as fuck atmosphere and a brilliantly conceived world and I immediately went out and bought the full game.

More recently, probably Skyrim, thoguh I obviously haven't actually played it yet. I've never been in to the Elder Scrolls games yet Skyrim has me downright drooling at the prospect of playing it.

Dragon quest 9, sentinels of the starry skies. Nowhere near finishing it but its my pick-up-and-play game for level grinding.

Nire - I had heard so much mixed review about this game that I didn't know if I should buy it or not but I bought it and I am so glad I did, even if the story is a bit weak but the gameplay and my god the music is fantastic and makes up for the weak story.

MGS - at first I thought to my self
"what you have to be sneaky and the cut scene are some times how LONG? No fucking way am I playing this series"
but then I saw MGS2 in in a bargen bin and I thought
"well ok it's only 100SEK why not"
after that I was hooked I bought MGS4 then I hunted down MGS3 (my favorite BTW) and Twin Snakes and then the original MGS on PSN.

Nier on the 360:
Still playing it but it plays surprisingly well. Fast gameplay, great controls, engaging story.
I wonder why I didn't play this before.

I enjoyed this as well, and I can add Minecraft, Alan Wake, Brutal Legend and the Uncharted games to my list.

Knights of the Old Republic. I'm not a big fan of Star Wars and I had no idea what to expect. But it turned out to be really, really good.

I don't often get to try games that I don't think I'll like, though, so that's about it for me.
