A. He was in some kind of cult that believed the world would end.
Christianity?
No... Just no...

I was thinking something more in the ballpark of a 'scientologyish' thing where aliens show up with a 2000 mile long spaceship as stated in both articles.

Wow, you have to be pretty hard pressed to seriously say that thugs in a video game(which are designed to resemble thugs in real life), and warlocks in WoW(lol) influence someone to be a cold hearted emotionless killer.

How the fuck are the kids getting guns? My dad knew what I was thinking before I did.
The system is not perfect, and unless there is a recorded prior history, there would be nothing barring a 22 year old from buying a handgun.

Ordinarily, anyone with a mental history or a history of violent crime cannot purchase or own a firearm.

Games are not to blame here, and honestly when stuff like this comes up, I'm insulted. Yeah I play violent video games, and yeah I write some creepy stuff, shouldn't I be under close suspection for the next school-shooting then?? According to vgame-bashers, yes, I should. But I'm a peaceful person, I'm a pacifist with virtual violent tendancies; I work out my rage in killing pixels, not people.

But seriously, stuff like this comes from a culmination of issues; family, drugs, psychosis, cults (which, to be honest I found rather amusing in that article) things like that. Maybe a violent game contributed but it wasn't the soul cause. Sure something like GTA might have set him off (though I rather doubt it), but to blame things like this exclusively on games is ridiculous...Pardon my ranting.
No, please, rant more. Them blaming the video game industry for something like this is an insult to every gamer out there.

It's like they're trying to find something easy to blame instead of the obvious culprits.
Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner folks!

I doubt Video games influenced this kid to kill people, I think it would be more likely if this was caused by his fathers suicide, like other people stated. Video games don't cause people to go killing people, there were school shooting and violence before video games....

If a video game influences you to go out and kill people, than you're moron....

And a warlock from World of Warcraft? Come on now....

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

I always think of this type of controversy when I hear that verse.
Ah, Bob Dylan has the foresight of a seer, seeing that they'd be blaming video games.

Or, you know, he payed attention to the world around him and realized that new things will always be blamed. That it had always been that way. That the older generation will be blind to what their generation had been through and blame that which they don't understand. *sigh*
