There are some wierd people out there...
Okay no one with SENSE masterbates to violence.

But yes, If its not ment for children there's no point in censoring it, that said, Developers themselves have comfort zones, and have a right to make things they themselves are comfortable with.

Can anyone explain to me why I can openly rip a man's arms off, beat him to death with them, and then smoke crack out of his eye sockets in a video game and have in completely uncensored
Wait, what game's that from?
it was just an example :p
It's kind of pointless in debating if you're going to exaggerate your own side and say you can do something when you can't, and then say the amount of sex is disproportionate to that thing you can't do anyway.

Let me just quickly point out that this is only the case in the US. For some strange reason I yet fail to grasp your general public has a very strange fascination with violence and a terribly disturbing fear of sexuality.

You can't imagine how ridiculous the whole Janet-Jackson-Super-Bowl-incident looks from over here in Germany, where we have topless women in daytime television commercials and very graphic sex scenes in night-time cable. On the other hand, we have probably the strictest restrictions on violent content of any industrialized country, almost every action-game either has a toned-down version especially made for Germany or doesn't get released at all because it would be banned (it's a bit more complicated than that, but never mind). Games with sexual content, however, like Singles or Wet or Biing are openly available to anyone over 16.

TL;DR: It's the other way round here and in quite a few other countries.

What are we supposed to discuss, exactly?
How we all agree with you? Because that's what most of it is.
And just to play Devil's Advocate, God of War has openly shown women with top nudity.
Just sayin'.
Hell, God of War III had lesbianism in it. And I didn't hear one word from the nation's "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" lunatics.

Mostly, you have to worry about the ESRB. If a game is given an AO rating, it can't be sold in stores (well, technically, it can, but most retailer's don't). For some reason, America is very sensitive when it comes to sex. Hence why I have to be careful when telling certain people at my college (older, highly religious people, mostly) how my summer was (I went to an anime convention...and did you know some fundies automatic think "satan" when they hear "Japan"?).

In the end, it's censorship. And like 99.99% of all censorship. it makes no goddamn sense.

Not sure which country is somewhat in-between. Maybe Sweden.
When I rule the world, every country will follow the formula "Sex = Fine. Violence = Fine"

There will be some restrictions, obviously. But not nearly as much as there are now.

why would you want to maserbate to a load of pixels, after all thats what gaming is.
So is porn.... And I've masturbated to that before.
Yes but thats actual people not animation
that's irrelevant, someone is always going to try and get their jollies off to something sexual.

In Rome, which was the biggest empire of its time, had violent gladiator shows at colosseums but I don't remember hearing of people making out for an audience or something like that. I'd say that Roman culture had a pretty large influence on modern day culture, it being the widest spread civilization back then.
That was a culture where parents who could afford it would send their sons to a whorehouse just so they wouldn't be absolute crap in bed later on in life. The Romans were big on sex, generally speaking it was the Catholics that decided that the world should pretend that sex doesn't exist.
At least that's how I remember hearing it happened.

In a more modern time it's to "Protect the children" obviously

Why? Because the people who are in charge of media happen to be conservative as hell and not willing to accept change except in baby steps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but five or so years ago, blowing off a person's leg in a game would have immediately have it get put on the "Immediate ban list".

Now we play games where people explode in a gory red goop with limbs smacking innocent bystanders in the face every day.

Baby steps.

Of course, don't expect sex to be integrated into videogames any time soon because humans have always generally viewed sex as an incredibly dirty, infinitely taboo thing.

The GoW series is infamous for having boobies and implication of sexual acts in just about every game in the series. Imagine if they were to show the sex acts; there would be public outcry and most likely and endless streams of FOX news stories and concerned Catholic mother lawsuits. I'm just imagining Frumpy mom having a field day with this now.

Bottom line? Sex in videogames is a bad idea until we reach the point where people stop being so concerned for "Little Jimmys' precious and oh, so fragile mind". God forbid Jimmy sees a pair of unrealistically perfect boobs in a videogame, he might go insane with rage and kill his classmates.

I just realized, Mafia II is gonna be the first game, I own, that has nudity in it (unless I run out and buy God of War, or something along those lines), so I see what you're saying.

Because sex will definitely corrupt our children beyond belief.

Or something? I really don't know. It's the same with films :S
That is THE weakest reply I've seen in my life exept that hope in humanity post i quoted a while ago.So we can teach our kids that smoking crack out of a person skull is good and normal but no "Timmy sex is bad because first only thing you could do is bring more annoying kids into this world now go play in traffic" that is as wrong as you can get exept in the hope in humanity post i mentioned before.

Religious influence, my friend. Puritan, Christian views, saying "The lord sez sex is a baaaad thing and should only be used for reproduction. But murdering is great, as long as you can say that its all for god."

I don't believe he was only reffering to nudity in games and if you want nudity go watch hentai or porn or just buy rapelay or some other weird japanese game.

Because otherwise I'd chat up Dr Chackwas and live a life of regret.

It's probably because it'd just be branded as gratuitous, and they'd refuse ratings for anything that featured it. Remember that games still attract a lot of controversy regardless of content, and if one appeared that had a perfectly legit sex scene that was there because it made perfect sense in the plot, then it'd still be branded as "corrupting our nation's children", in spite of BBFC, ESRB and PEGI.

Don't you know? We're north American, or playing games intended for North american players (sorry aussie, we like you, but game developers aren't thinking of how many copies they'll sell in sydney.) That means we get the violence programming. If we were in Europe, it would be sex programming. Don't believe me? One of the few games they don't censore nudity...no wait...one of the few games that *forces* you to get a chick naked no matter if you want to skip the scene or not, is Heavy Rain, which is french produced. I heard God of War producers had to fight to keep the unecessary nudity in their games, and they even had to drop the ogre cock from the series. (Yeah, there was ogre cock)
North America - Violent programming (t.v and video game murder simulators)
European - Sex programming (tits in the commercial for no reason)
Asian - Holy shit run.
