I recently played Half-Life Blue Shift, and we all know Barney can talk but in that game he doesn't. I think it's because you're always in character in the Half-Life series. In fact I've noticed that most FPS's don't have the main character speak unless it's in a cut scene, which Half-Life doesn't have.

So unless HL:ep3 decides to also have the first ever cut scene for the series, I don't think Mr. Freeman will talk. I am excited to learn more about the G-Man though.

If they did for some reason have him talk though, I would have to say Adam Savage from Mythbusters. Just because they look similar.

Well, this Machinima series experimented with Gordon having a voice in Half-Life 1:

I would love t in the very end of the series Alyx would be killed and as it happened Gordon would reach his hand out and scream NO!

If Alyx died, probably everyone playing would set a primed grenade at their feet and refuse to progress further.

I was thinking this as I scrolled down the page and then I see this post.
It should be his normal voice not his growly, scratchy Batman voice.
Gordon Freeman having a welsh accent would certainly be a suprise. I don't know if Bale has a normal voice anymore as he has mastered so many of them. He usually adapts his voice to the role he plays (like when talking about batman he uses his american accent to prevent altering peoples perception of the character).

My choice would be Mr T.

Gordon Freeman will say 2 words in the entire Half-Life series. At the end of Episode 3, you'll have a climactic final battle with a weakened Gman. After you defeat him a cutscene will start. For the very first time perspective will shift to third person, and we'll see Gordon Freeman for the first time. He'll stand over the gmans broken true form, raise his crowbar, and say; "I quit." Before bringing down the final blow. And then we'll realise - "Holy shit, that was Edward Norton's voice!"

At least, that's how it is in MY perfect world.

No, Gordon will go to say something and there will be a loud noise that comes and sensors it out. Every other character will hear it and say stuff like "Oh Gordon, always a way with words" and such.

You will just sit there and be pissed at the screen, but you know Valve will be laughing.

I kind of think of Gordon like I Think of V from V for Vendetta. He is such a powerful and relatable symbol because we know nothing about him. I mean sure, we know what Gordon's face looks like, but because there is no back story, voice, or personality to go with it, it's just as mysterious as V's mask. And frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Because we know nothing about his past or what kind of person he is, we judge him solely on the fantastic and amazing feats we see him undertake in game, as does the world he is trying to save. He is the manifestation of man's desire to be free. He is courageous and unstoppable. If the Developers were to give Gordon a voice, they would take all this away. A voice would give him emotion, and make him human. It would shatter all the thoughts of Gordon we have built up in our mind, and take from us everything we've come to love about the half-life series. No voice could ever live up to the ideas we have about Gordon Freeman, because we have made him larger than life! Whoever is actually behind the placid face and mute tongue can't possibly live up to the Gordon Freeman we have now! So leave him mute I say, and let us have our hero.

Or have Bruce Campbell voice him, because he's what every man wants to be anyways.

I would go with whom I consider the new Bruce Cambell, Nathan Fillion. I would take him as the one Free Man.

Chris Tucker - in the style of the character he plays in The Fifth Element...I cannot remember what he is called.

This. This is pure win.

Hmm, the best line I could see him saying would be

"So, whatever did happen to that cat?"

Also, they need to go to third person and have him shown to look like my avatar. Oh yes, I went there.

The guy who does the English voice for Solid Snake. "Alex, This is Sna-..er I mean Gordon. I've secured the data, it looks like the combine are trying to build some sort of Warrior Society in South Africa."

The Stig would be perfect for the role of Gordon Freeman. Double-plus extra respect for anyone who gets this reference.

Wow, best one liner ever. You've just made my expectations of Episode 3 that much higher.

Yes this is actually quite appropriate, as both are post-production voice-overs.

Though, on the other hand, HalfLife 2 has far superior acting.
