Henry continued to wander the halls and finally found what he was looking for: a toilet. After about 3 minutes, the Welsh returned refreshed and renewed, and really, really, bored. He finally decided that he'd better go to where the least number of people to area would be and headed to the engines, only to actually find someone

"Hey! You! Get out. I need to go somewhere to hide from the crew and build up a persona as an anti-social nutcase"

((I'm not going to write in the accent. Just imagine the field goal kicker from The Replacements))

Walking down the corridor with the elder man Luthor gave himself proper introduction "I must say Von Fliescher I find it rather reassuring to find another inhabitant on this vessel from the Fatherland, coincidently my name is Luthor. Luthor Emil Novaks"

The huge man looked up from his study and eyed the small man, who seemed to shrink a further few inches in his gaze.
"Just reading. Pleased to meet you."
In an uncharacteristic display, he rose to shake the man's hand, his enormous palms engulfing Conrad's hand.
"Keep squads ready. Can't be too careful."

The chief engineer thought for a moment, before replying. "Adalwolf. You know my last name, so I won't repeat it, as there is no reason to. And yes, there is something ...comforting, in knowing that the Fatherland is still home to many great scientists and engineers. I have not seen it for many years, since 1923, I believe, I have been away. I have seen much of the world, from the glory and splendor of the Britische India, to the majesty Tanzania. Incidentally, that is where I was recruited, Herr Luthor."

He turned to the Australian, once addressed and said, quickly. "Ich bin sehr Gut, Herr... kommunikation offizier, ja?"

He felt a little uncomfortable, but pushed his worry aside. The engines can wait.

James nodded to Bible, evidently satisfied with the Gunners status report. "Excellent, I don't know when and if we will be needing those guns at all, but, if the need arises I want them to work!. So I want them kept in firing condition at all times" he said before excusing himself from the room. James glanced at his pocket watch. He was fond of the thing, not merely because it was a gift given to him by his former crew during the years spent in the Navy but mostly because it fueled his obsession with efficiency. It reminded him where he should be relative to where everyone else around him was. The watch told him that he had a couple more minutes before he was to report to the bridge, looking around he decided that he had met enough of the crew and looking for more crew members would be a distraction from his duties.

James made his way to his quarters, he flopped down on his chair and began to organize the clutter on his desk. In doing so he noticed a fresh document with the title SAL Inventory Report sitting above the pile of papers on his desk. I see Sargent Conrad has personally overseen the inventory process, he mused to himself as he browsed the document. James made a mental note of the Sergeant's character, "efficient and hard working", qualities that James was easily impressed by. At least now we know how prepared we are in dealing with an internal hostile situation, he thought as he filed the document in a secure cabinet.
The clock on his wall chimed it's half past bell reminding the Commander his plan on stepping onto the bridge.

He had made this journey twice before, the route to the bridge, finally it seemed he was getting his chance to report to the Captain. James opened the door leading to the bridge and stepped inside. The bridge itself was a hive of activity, almost everyone was busy checking indicators and lever positions and generally moving from one spot to the next. In the center stood a lone figure, who towered over various instrumentation, Captain Aram. James approached the figure and saluted. "Captain, the ships guns and torpedoes are fully functioning and the internal marine detachment is well supplied and combat ready. What are your orders, sir?"

"Ja, Ich bin der kommunikation offizier, und Ich heisser Will Hansen. And though I can speak German fluently, I prefer English. I hope that's all right. Pleased to meet you." As he finished, Will held out his had to the German.

"Indeed you can't, sir. I just wanted to make sure we had the external firepower to match the internal. I understand we have eight torpedo tubes, 2 double 21-inchers, and 10 15-inchers. I also understand you spent some time with them before we submerged. Do we have 360 degree coverage? I understand that some fishermen in the areas we will be traveling through have some tales of giant squid and such and I have found that the average man is much less likely to make things up that make no sense, plus my Marines will be largely useless against a squid at a thousand feet below water." Conrad chuckled as he said this last. He found it progressively easier to speak to this giant of a man. Seems like a good man to have on the guns, quiet and reserved. I wonder what he's reading...Oh, the Bible. Well that explains his name. Funny, I haven't picked up a Bible since I entered the service...I wonder if Marilyn packed me one...

Arthur stood shocked for a short moment, both at the surprise of someone else actually being down here and the Medical officers words. Then he saw the grin across the welshman's face. Getting over his surprise he stuck out his hand and introduced himself.
"Arthur Backman at your service, i was just having a look at these engines here, supposedly the best in the world but this tub still moves through the water like a pig with a paddle"
Though Arthur's first impression of the man when he saw him on the docks was that he was just another limey guy with needles, examining him closer he detected a kind of cunning intelligence. No matter how likable a man he may be, he was defiantly not a man to trust. There was something strange about this medical man, and it wasn't his welsh accent.

Vasily steered the ship with bored attentiveness, As he looked around he saw the Quartermaster give him a funny look and wondered why. The captain looked a competent sort and he was relieved that he did not have to deal with any commissars on this voyage.

After his conversation with Von Fleischer, Luthor's optimism regarding the crew was not elevated. He was a good man and deserving of respect for his time in service but in the end he was just a soldier. Sure his official title was chief engineer but at his heart he was a soldier, a fool needlessly working for another obsessed with politicking and glory. Besides, his time in Tanzania had softened him. Luthor's new found sense of Nationalism while aboard the ship was troubling him, "for the betterment of All Mankind Novaks, remember that". It wasn't long before he found himself in front of the door of his labs. His domain. His Kingdom.

Bursting open the doors, Luthor took in the brief moment of fear and intimidation, savoring its rare bouquet like a french connoisseur before the inhabitants had returned to their petty vices. "This is even worse than I thought". Before him was an entire gamete of faces within the small crowd, each one a representing a nation or a scientific field. Looking at the sea of faces, of so called genuises, Luthor was less than impressed. These were not men who loved science as he did. No, these were men who had loved its trappings of fame and the old days of the Gentlemen's Club.

Slowly walking towards his own station, Luthor took in the sights. The neatly polished surfaces of the Lab were desecrated with games of Gin Rummy in the corner. The soothing sounds of chemicals bubbling away in their beakers and vases lost in conversations regarding the Yellow Captain. There were one or two faces at their own stations, working endlessly with their own pet projects. Luthor had recognized their faces. It was these men who he was going to trust in this voyage.

Finally reaching his own station, Luthor produced a small device from his pocket along with two pieces of rubber with a heavily condensed centre of horse hair. Placing the two plugs in his ears he pressed a small button on the device. Within secoonds everyone within the Lab, with the exception of Luthor and an old scientist fast asleep on a chair, was on the floor, their hands over their ear, writhing in agony. After a good minute, Luthor let his thumb from of the button on the screecher in his hands and removed his ear plugs as the men recovered. Taking the moment of silence the confusion had created Luthor spoke.

"Gentlemen, I am Luthor Emil Novaks. I have been selected as the chief scientist for this voyage. Dont bother to introduce yourselves I have already read the files and I have no intention of knowing any of you personally. I'm sure there are a few of you don't dont take kindly to working for someone younger than you, but believe me theres a damned good reason why I'm standing here talking before you, and for those who are smart enough to understand why then I want you to know this. This is not a pleasure cruise. We're here to work. I'll come back in 3 hours time from the Cheif Medical Officers office along with your new diet and excercise regiments. I'll not tolerate insubordination"...Luthor stopped for a moment before turning on a bunsen burner and walking over to the card game. Picking up the deck he proceeded to return to his desk and throw the deck through the flame.
"If I see any other means of distraction in MY lab again, I'll have you thrown off this vessel and your name removed from your precious science journals, Good day Gentlemen"

Leaving the room, Luthor couldn't help but think to himself "Went better than expected actually"

He gave Luthor a curious look, as the scientist went off somewhere. He wondered briefly, as to what the other man was thinking. He coughed lightly, finding that the scientist was hardly a pleasant person. He shrugged, before turning his attention to the Australian.

He shook the hand held out towards him. "Not a problem. I can speak English quite well, I believe. I picked most of it up during my travels. Pleasant to meet you, Herr Hansen."

"Let me tell ya, mate, your English is better than most. By travels, do you mean your military postings around the world, or have you travelled privately?"

"Private, mostly. With the Kaiser gone, Germany is not my home. Those schweinhundes in the Reichstag are ruining the country I grew up in, where my family lived. To get away, I have traveled the world on many ships with many crews. And all had different engines." He said, looking slightly manic when "engines" were mentioned.

He heard the buzzing of this submarines engines. He felt every beat of the electric motors, he might say, the pulse of the entire ship. His eyes looked down, as he could feel where the engine room was. They were waiting for him. Yes.

Henry took his hand and shook before replying
"If you say so; I think you're just keeping away from everyone else. But either way, pleasure to meet you. My name is Henry Wells"
Henry began to examine him closly and came to the conclusion that this guy was just too damn normal for his taste, but hell, atleast he was someone to talk to.
"You're the Aussie on this voyage, right? I heard your government wasn't too keen on sending one of their own on this 'momentous trip', am I right?"

Bible nodded slowly.
"360 degrees, or close enough. Heard of squids; don't believe."
He gave a bit of a smirk.
"Can handle it. Not going to be broken."

"You would be right there, there was quite a lot of political wrangling to get me on this trip. There is still some bad feelings towards some of the country's represented here."
Arthur stopped for a moment hesitating, he didn't want to be open to a complete stranger, but he wanted to try have at least one person to trust on the voyage, and this Henry seemed a better chap than most.
"There was actually a bit of conspiracy theorizing about this ship, this was supposed to be a large part publicity stunt, but why build such a huge ship when a smaller one would have done alot better."
Arthur Paused to examine the Welshman's reaction.

[li]Translation Convection [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TranslationConvention] would be useful in some contexts.[/li]
[li]This expedition is going to be about 50 days long or more. Insuch I don't think all of us can be bothered to expostulate every minute of that time, therefore I expect you all to be in bed on time. [/nanny]
Seriously either I or you guys need interrem periods which time can be skipped or halted for whatever reason.[/li]
[li]While it is fantastic that you guys are carrying on converstations, it would be nice to have things slightly more organized; having to read a post then skip down five posts to see the next clause is slightly annoying. But that's just me, if you think it's fine, continue as you were.[/li]

Aram looked up in the room full of switches, levels, knobs and small video screens from which pings and beeps issued, and afront sat a small threesome of round windows. Looking back to Commander Tyrrel, he put his hand to his lip and thought.
He looked to the helmsman and asked
"Helmsman..-" The Captain interrupting himself in mind. "Mr. Petrov, how capable are you to follow course as per the designated course autonomously?" He asked, his voice slightly brandishing the fact he did not speak so verbosely normally.

He walked along the way, meeting several people in the hall. Some were talking about their former history in their countries, but John didn't have time. He made it to the hull for the check-up, and began to look at the pipes. He checked carefully for leaks, cracks and damage on the pipes. He knew his job was boring, but he had to make the money. He looked boringly at the metal, and wished for a better future, but he had to work now.

John noticed a broken pipe, and immediately got his welding tools to fix it. He put on his mask and gloves, and began to weld the pipes together. "I wish I was farming in China instead of this". He gazed at the immense maze of pipes and metal that comprised of the submarine. The submarine was a huge titanic beast, and he had to maintain all of this. John merely sighed, and began to walk along the massive hallway, looking for a leak....

"Good eye. The ship would be a unwieldly too far down. And the cost would be far to much for a ship that can't outmanuver a ship of half its' size. I agree with you. Maybe something is afoot"
Henry flashed a smile, the idea of there being some conspiracy sparking his fancy. And if there was something, he'd be there to see it, and that beat the hell out of being Chief of Medicine in some hospital back on the island.
