wait, in the US you don't have Coffee Crisp, Aero, or Smarties?

oh warheads~

reminds me when i was 12 and got a bag of warheads for christmas. Ate half the bag and later discovered i burned a layer off my tongue. Was peeling for a day, blah.
If you ant to burn off your tongue, get some miracle berry extract (it fixes to your taste buds, changing what compunds trigger them -- most strongly effects your ability to perceive sour), apply liberally to tongue and start chugging straight lemon juice because it tastes amazing.

Usually we deep fry the Hell out of everything. Or smother it in ketchup. Or both.
And yet you don't have this.

Lays ketchup?
We have that in Texas, but the art of the potato chip has been raised a million miles beyond that point.

The Yanks banned Kinder Surprise?

Does that mean they don't get Kinder Buenos?

Those poor, poor bastards. I shall weep for them this day.

*single tear*
Yes, the Yanks did it. In fact, a few years back when my little brother was on the last year trip to either New York or Florida (can't remember which), he and his friend tried to smuggle one each in. Boarder guards caught them (they where probably grinning like asses knowing them), and they had to throw them out. His friend was tempted to eat it instead, belch and say "you smell that? That's the smell of freedom", but he didn't want to risk it.
Texas has mountains of Kinder Eggs.
We have a different type of candy called Smarties, but I'm aware of the other Smarties that are just better M&Ms.
We had Aero for a minute there. And then they mostly stopped selling it. Pretty sure you can buy it here if you know where to look.
Never heard of Coffee Crisp.

What is this blather about American chocolate being lesser? I've had chocolate from all around the world, Hershey is the superior offering.

Damn it, now I want S'mores.
No it's not.
Hershey's is really really really really shit chocolate.
Aside from the off-brand Easter candy type chocolate, Hershey's is the absolute worst.

The Coffee Crisp Wikipedia Page [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_Crisp] specifically says that they're mostly unavailable outside of Canada. They're easier to get in Australia than they are here.

We don't have Smarties [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties] over here, either. Well, we do, but they're not the same thing; you guys call them Rockets [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties_(wafer_candy)]. How are your guys's Smarties different from M&M's, though, other than the package?

We have the Aeros over here [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aero_(chocolate)], but we call them Hershey's Air Delight. I've never had one, but maybe I'll pick one up next time in the store.
For smarties think of something like a regular M&M but with the shape and crunchiness of a Reeses Pieces.

Also we do have M&M's here as well. In my opinion Smarties are better than regular M&M's but you have to admire the latter's variety: peanut, almond, peanut butter, etc.

Really though these are just different brands of chocolate bars, for me the best snack we have in Canada that isn't in the US is Hawkins Cheezies. That Cheeto's crap just doesn't compare.

?

Chocolate is chocolate. This seems just as inane as people pining about how much better their vanilla is.

Just like the difference between sugar and corn syrup coke is barely neglible. many people prefer the sugar one for health reasons primarily, not taste.

That's exactly as valid as saying the quality of one hamburger is the same as the quality of every other hamburger, i.e. not even slightly true.

Those are Rockets. Shame the country that went to the moon doesn't recognize Rockets when they see them. ;)

These are the Smarties this topic is talking about...

We have M&Ms instead. Like the Hersey's Air Delight, probably not as good.
Aside from being chocolate with a candy coating, M&M's are nothing like Smarties. We have both in Canada.

By that logic, beef is beef and a great cut of steak is the same as a McDonald's hamburger. Or Bacon is the same as some ham.

All chocolate is not created equal, and American chocolate is less equal than most.

Edit: Do other English speaking countries really refer to us Americans as Yanks that often?
I can't tell..I think it's an escapist thing, I hadn't heard it too much until I joined here, where it seems like everyone from the UK insists on using the word "yank". Personally I don't like it, but I suppose that would make me hypocritical for some of the words I use sometimes, so whatev's.

OT: I knew there was a different smarties, but haven't had them, and coffee crisp? the fuck? if it tastes anything like coffee I think I would gag on it, it sounds horribly gross, like goldmembers skin that he eats or something. Aero sounds like a tampon or something..so no havent heard of that.

False! But please understand I like chocolate that is less sweet with the perfect melting point. Also the extreme creaminess of other chocolate brands coats the mouth leaving a bitter aftertaste.

Hershey's is the best, hands down.

http://intelligenttravel.nationalgeographic.com/2012/12/28/the-10-best-chocolatiers-in-the-world/

US is 5 out of the 10 places

here is an article from the UK:

http://www.chocolatiers.co.uk/blogs/guides/7853021-why-searching-for-the-best-chocolate-in-the-world-is-a-waste-of-time

"The first list you'll find doing a search may bethis one from the Guardian. It was written in 2008 and in the intervening five years the chocolate world has changed beyond recognition. There are just so many new and interesting chocolate makers and chocolatiers producing wonderful stuff now. Even in 2008 the choice, especially coming out of America, Eastern Europe and Asia was nothing like it is now."

http://www.internationalchocolateawards.com/2013/10/world-final-2013-winners/

The experts say something else.

Ive had European chocolate, its comparable to its American counterparts. Cant say ive had any expensive candy, but from what the experts say the two are comparable in quality. Like I implied earlier, bitching about which country has better chocolate is like bitching about which soda is better, Pepsi or Coke.

Or, perhaps a bit closer to home, bitching about which console is superior, the 360 or PS3. Claiming that American chocolate is inferior is like claiming that American videogames are superior.

Yeah, we put corn syrup in everything, but what else do you expect we do with it all? We put that shit in everything and it makes store bought pastries softer for reasons.

Well, we could stop subsudising corn, but that just sounds like madness.

Guess I was wrong to think it was obvious I was talking about the big chocolate companies, not some small choclatiers that almost no one has heard of if they don't live next to them. Same way mass produced American beer is vile piss water, but you can find some smaller breweries that actually respect the craft of brewing a fine beer.

Bingo.
And Hershey is the absolute bottom of that totempole.

So I just got back from the supermarket (in Rochester, NY, so not some sort of specialty confectioner's shop), after picking up an Aero bar, a Coffee Crisp, a Wispa, a Dairy Milk and a few other things (I forgot to look for Smarties, but I've had them before). Didn't like the Aero, though I've had them before and didn't like them then either. I guess I just don't care for Nestle's chocolate. The Coffee Crisp was okay, but really just tasted like a coffee-flavored Kit Kat. The Wispa was pretty good, it had a nice taste and a pleasant texture. The Dairy Milk was okay, nothing to write home about.

Probably the best tasting one of the bunch was the Puerto Cabello 43% cocoa bar from Rausch:

Smarties are not distributed in the United States, except by specialist importers. This is due to the American rights to the brand name belonging to not Nestlé but the Smarties Candy Company, which manufactures its own hard tablet sweet under the name Smarties (known as Rockets in Canada).
Really? Brand name issues? That's even dumber than the 'Kinder Surprise is banned because think of children' thing.
