Go ahead and laugh at the raving Halo fanboys, or the stupid Sonic recolor fan characters. And if you can find something other than, "Lol, dudes liking little girl cartoons," then I guess you get to make fun of bronies, too.
Without a good reason to laugh at bronies, it all seems like someone's insecure with their masculinity or think themselves too kewl for anything mainstream.
You realise the justification for mocking both those things is just as flimsy?

You're no better than the people you're so offended at. "Raving Halo fanboys" and "stupid Sonic recolor fan characters"? I'm sorry, but I find it kind of pathetic that you can be so dismissive and offensive to other fanbases (that have probably received just as much unjust hate as bronies) in the very same post as you explain why the people mocking your fanbase were in the wrong.
I'm not saying the entire fanbases are bad, but they do have some well-known examples of ludicrous fanstuffs. I'm a Halo fan, and there's a ton of really cool stuff that's out there with Halo. But there's also the annoying raving people who put us to shame.

Likewise, Sonic has a huge, and often really damn cool fanbase. The fan remakes, some of the best chiptune I have ever heard, a lot of great fanfiction and fan art...
But there's also a lot of bad stuff out there that even the fans get a giggle over.

And I have a lot of furry friends whom will agree that sparkedogs are hilarious.

And Potter fans and their My Immortal.

Most fanbases have somethings that are pretty funny, although it kinda is at the creators' expenses. Bronies don't have anything like that yet, its just too young a fanbase.

Yeah, that's a MLP mary sue in WoW.
If we're going to laugh at fanbases and insult those who create fan content, why isn't it the worst they offer?

I wasn't saying that all Halo fans are raving fanboys, or all Sonic fans are lame. I suppose I should have been more specific.

Because "******" is simply a different word for "Black person", and "loser" is a personal opinion.
Wrong, because internet lexicon is defined by white nerds.

If people really want to go for zero offence and always taking a joke good naturedly that has to apply to them too.
Oooh ooh!

I know, I know!

Chris Rock did a great stand up about the differences between black people and 'niggers'

It was hilarious.

I just don't get it.

I mean... is it a show for little girls or is it not? Why do Ponyologists get so defensive about the show? They clearly don't like it in an 'ironic' way like stoned students enjoy Tellytubbies.

What am I missing here that other people see in this show?
The show was also made to appeal to children and parents aswell. So it can appeal to them, who are adults, means anyone can watch it. The show is nothing like the 80's versions where it was just little girls. It's the 21st century, people need to not be so closed minded that things need to be just so. People have much bigger problems than to worry about some dude who watches a cartoon.
And I've never seen people get overly defensive about it. Maybe people you've seen just don't want things to demonize the show and it's fans. Like whats happened to other fandoms.

For what your missing to see. No one can answer that for you. Thats something you'd have to figure out for yourself.

Yes I find it very silly at how I can watch a show (and like it) directed at young girls. But god damn it is such a good show.

To all of the haters out there: If you don't like us so much, then why do you always talk about us? I've got no problem with other people's opinions, but when everyone gangs up on you and makes fun of you constantly and calls you a baby for being offended, it gets me downright pissed off! Anyone, no matter what they like, would have the same reaction! It's you guys and you're "You don't like what we like so we hate you" philosophy.

If you call someone a loser, then of course it's a personal opinion. If someone does something you don't like, and you call him a loser, that person won't be a loser in everyone's eyes. But a black person will be a "******" no matter what (I don't mean that in a racial kind of way). Yes, being called a ****** is really offensive, but if you take the racial slur off it, then that's what they ARE. A black person. Bronies aren't losers in everyone's eyes, thus making it a personal opinion.

I'm kind of surprised they needed to take the apology so far. I guess bronies were really vocal about it. Generally, I thought the internet was good about "You can make fun of us as long as you make fun of everyone." That's why we can make sweeping comments about christians, atheists, fat people, minor( <18 ) gamers online, etc.

Anyway, I'm sure everyone's happy now.

My point remains
It really doesn't. Your argument is this:

"I like MLP, therefore I don't find jokes that are anti-MLP to be funny. Therefore anyone who makes a MLP joke is not funny and doesn't even have a point".
No it isn't. I was asking for you to find me someone who makes a MLP joke other than that guys watch it. Or even just someone who isn't insulting. While this can be a fine line, when a fox news show feels the need to apologize for talking about a marginal interest group, I'd say its pretty safe to say they weren't very funny for a lot of other people, too.

There's just no content to humor based on bronies. If someone went in and made an "Infiltrating the fanbase" sort of article or stand up routine, I bet it would be hilarious, although a bit scathing. But insulting bronies on the premise? Its too young to have enough well-known drivel to make fun of, and no one I've seen has bothered to spend the time to do a bit of digging.

Without any real content to go on, it just seems like people are pulling nonsense out of their asses to make depreciating humor on them. And insulting people based on nothing seems a bit hateful. Why are people making fun of bronies? Other than because someone dislikes how they're breaking traditional gender roles?

You're using your own bias to make your own point seem stronger. You even slagged off Halo and Sonic and implied they're different. You do realise their fans can make equally as valid arguments as you?
I wasn't aiming that at all Halo fans, nor all Sonic fans. I am a Halo fan. But if someone's going to make fun of halo fans, I'd say it should be at the raving, offensive superfans who should be mocked. As with the Sonic fanbase- they're one of the best I've ever seen, but also the biggest, with plenty of content that is mocked even by their own fans.
I did word that quite poorly.

I tremendously adore what you did here. For some reason, I think comparing someone crying over spilt lemonade to the people who are crying over being ribbed for like MLP is a pretty damn good analogy.
Its not the lemonade, its the jackass.

Indeed.

Having said that, I do understand if people don't like the show for whatever reason. All I ask is that they give it a chance.

thing is: if MLP would be about talking cars it would be ok and certain people would go out on a limb to justify why it's OK for grown men to like this.

So it's alright for the collective of the Internet to insult black people with a word with a loaded history...but the Internet can't take a joke back? Strikes me as pretty fucking precious. Either no words hurt or any word can hurt, either way it's either a call for increased mutual respect and sensitivity online or a sign that maybe the people who collectively lost their shit over this should grow up.

I've been called a loser, didn't bother me even though I play a lot of tabletop games that are traditionally considered the hobbies of losers. It only hurts if you're worried it's true.
Aaaah, I see what you mean... You think we care about being called losers? I don't really. Of course, it's hurtful, but I don't throw a tantrum over it, the people calling us losers just doesn't understand the culture behind it. It's like you said about yourself being called a loser because you play tabletop games. If those people had tried it too, they probably wouldn't have called you losers. Besides, everybody should have the right to like what they want without other people thinking they're losers, but that ain't ever gonna happen.

EDIT: Also, I don't call people niggers on the internet (or IRL for that sake). That shit ain't cool.

I dunno, I laugh at the Simpson's Comic Book guy, and wear my geekery on my sleeve. I'm not like CBG, of course. It's all the rest of you geeks who are like that :D

It's like someone said, if you're a grown guy who likes a cartoon series aimed at pre-teen girls, you're going to have to learn to deal with ribbing.

P.S. And let's face it, the Powerpuff Girls could kick the rears of a herd or two of MLPs. Heck, Buttercup could do it all by herself (Bubbles probably would refuse, let's face it)

You ever see The Powerpuff Girls? Sure it was girly, but a guy coudl sit down and enjoy it, since the humor was independant of the girlishness. Its core demographic was girls, but plenty of boys saw it too.

This show is the same deal.

OT: To be fair, this IS a show for little girls. I know that, and so some ridicule is more than expected. What these guys did was... eh, I didn't like it, but I didn't take offense like when those guys over at fox made us out to be freaks of nature- that WAS crossing the line.
