I've read about halfway through it, and I can honestly say it was one of the worst books I've ever read, and that's not even an exaggeration. Save yourself and don't read it.

If you are

A. A mormon chick
B. a sexually repressed mormon chick
C. Like really unlikeable characters(considering that the main vampire is nearly 100yrs old stalking a young teenage highschool girl, and the girl is equally pathetic fauning over every move said vampire makes)
D. Want to feel your brain cells die an unbelievably horrid death.

then the twilight series might just be for you.

Seriously, I read some of the books and it is unbelievable how unlikeably the characters are, its basically mormon romance porn without actual any sex

I don't mean to offend anyone but I thought about reading it, but the idea of homosexual vampires isn't very appealing.
Homosexual? o_O
Where in Twilight did you found homosexuality? o_O
I thought they were all gay... Isnt that what its about, gay rights and stuff? No, I guess that would have given it some meaning and depth. XD
I see all of you bury Twilight before even watching or reading it. That's called ignorance.
Twilight is about love. Not straight or gay or fish love. Just pure love. The example they took was a normal girl and a vampire dude. I saw the movie and read the first book. I didn't like it. But i will not tolerate ignorance. Sorry.

Ok, I've asked a few women I know about this...and this is basically why women like Twilight, or more along the lines of, why women like "Edward". He's old fashioned, over-protective, can carry her around like a hero, can save her from any situation because he just knows when she's in danger, he can beat up anyone who challengers her...but at the end of the day...he's just an emo little crybaby. It sets the standards too high for men because EVERY girl who sees this movie, one way or another, wants a guy like Edward, and its crap.

Your mom likes twilight.
Adolescent girls like twilight.
Therefore, your mom is an adolescent girl.

The only way your story can make sense in my head is if I assume you are approximatly 3 and your mother is 14.

Twilight the books is crap, and i hated the movie for one sole reason. Why would you play a Radiohead song, a really good song, i might add, after a movie so tremendously god-awful!
Wait, there was a Radiohead song in that shit movie???

I could only stand to watch that movie for about 20 minutes before I said "NO!!!"

What story isn't about love these days? Oh, and I will NOT tolerate people missing jokes when they are clearly outlined by a "XD".

My mum's an english teacher and she didn't mind it. The books supposedly aren't bad but I haven't read them. As for the movie, it's well directed but the acting's terrible.

The song doesn't suit the movie either, I'll add to that statement.

Give it a try. If you like it, we won't think less of you as a man.

Oh ok, I lied.
I would think of him as less of a man but I'm currently reading and liking Jane Eyre so I can't really talk that much.

Now think about just about ANY fantasy novels/short stories involving romance between elves and humans. Or any generic long-living/eternal race and humans.

Fuck, I'm not even trying to defend the books I've never read nor intend to any time soon, but this is a shitty argument. Take a look at Silmarillion or Lord of The Rings - Beren and Luthien? Aragorn and wasshername?
So then you dont see any issue with a 90 year old man having a relationship with a 16 year old schoolgirl?

I mourned when I looked at the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section of my local bookshop and saw more vampire-romances than any other book.... *sniff*

Sorry, I just love posting that.

I just find the series bat-shit bonkers; a teenage girl (who is NOT a Mary-Sue, honest) finds an "incredibly handsome" vampire, instantly falls in love and wants to get in his pants despite the fact that he is, in fact, dead, 108 years old and might kill her.

Not my cup of tea, I've seen Yaoi mangas that have better plots than that...

Calling those "vampires" gay is an insult to gay people.

In this example, no I don't. Why should I?

We're talking fantasy here. If someone - or something - can live eternally, and is forever stuck at, say, 18 years old "mark", there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

And last time I checked - that is, when they showed the trailers for the movie this fall - the guy didn't seem like he was 90.

It's fucking vampires. If you get turned into a vampire when you're 16, you're fucking 16 now, 16 a hundred years later, 16 a million years later and so on.
Because the person is not 16, they may look 16 but they have the years of experience and maturity of someone nearly 6 times that age.

So let me rephrase it, if a 90 year old man, got plastic surgery to look younger would it be any less wrong?

the answer is yes.

It all comes down to emotional, sexual and mental maturity, which the teenage girl is lacking in all areas and the 90yr old man(though he looks 16) has in abundance(though I guess not in the twilight books).

thats one more problem with books like twilight and where Ann Rice got it right with Claudia and meyers got it wrong with Edward. Claudia "grew up" even though she still technically looked like a child. For Edward to still act 16 even though he has had years to mature is just really bad writing and imagination on the authors part.
