Modern Warfare 2, the campaign. I found it deeply engrossing, and while the story struggled a little, it picked itself back up for a solid conclusion. I don't know why people are complaining about its' length, look at portal; they are both very enjoyable games that don't overstay their welcome.

If I am not sure about a game,I hire it out first. If I like it I buy it,if I dont,no harm done.People like different things in their games.I love a good story and a bit of humour. It all comes down to personal taste.
I loved the Broken Sword series of games, but my mates hated it.
Choose for yourself, dont be a sheep!

Deadspace gets alot of hate?
Yes, it gets a lot of hate.

Like many other survivial horror games, it fell foul of the 'I hate it because it isn't Silent Hill 2' syndrome.
I see now . . . I've GOT Silent Hill 2, quite honestly there's also something to be said for branching out. Silent Hill 2 is a great horror game, I'm glad so many of us can agree on that that but come on . . . there's nothing wrong with there being an entry into the same genre that doesn't totally copy that game, that's like telling of the makers of say Jurassic The Hunted for their game not being enough like Halo . . . please . . . judge the game by it's own damn merrits
Yep.

Both great games, just scary in different ways.

I know a lot of people complained about Mirror's Edge but it was one of my picks for best game of 2008 (beaten out just barely by Fallout 3 and MGS4). One game though that I don't like despite everyone else loving it is Marvel vs. Capcom 2, I don't know why but I could just never get into it.

I loved inFamous, but none of my friends did. I understand the graphics weren't the best, and a couple weird bugs would happen to Coles arms every once and a while, but its still got a great story.
I liked infamous but i can see why your friends didn't. To me it got really boring after the 2nd island , and the ending was weak

I've heard quite a few people spout out a lot of hate for the deadspace game for a few reasons:

* the main character won't talk
* the main character moves really slowly
* the enemies are too difficult

well after a long time I finally bought and completed the game (I generally don't play horror games as I am Medically classified as a pussy).

I found that most of the reasons people hate this game are quite sad really

* The main character can run fast if you hold down a certain button (cant remember which one)
* The enemies can be killed quite easily if you actually aim for the limbs and keep your distance

* the main reason the main character doesn't speak is because f he did then it would break the creepy silence that the game runs on when your not fighting

usually i stay away from horror games but after playing this one i found that they are actually quite good and deadspace didn't have anything to hate about it.

It may just be me, but usually when you hear a lot of people complain about something, you usually think said thing would turn out to be true. But, I dunno, for video games, I see a lot of people making big deals out of nothing. =/

My first 2 for this are Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed. My brother got these for Christmas and we've been going through them, and we haven't found anything wrong with the gameplay or story (some of the main complaints of both).

Also, another big one being, SSB: Brawl. I thought it was an improvement on Melee, more/better stages, online, custom stages, random collectible, and the like. And while I didnt play Melee like a madman like some people did apperently, I vastly enjoyed/still enjoy Brawl.

So, what have you people thought was over-exaggerations that you've heard about certain games/parts of games?

(ie. Bosses being letdowns when they werent, confusing plot when it really isnt, etc.)
I love Brawl over melee. I went back to Melee to give it a shot I was like "I used to like this game?"

When Halo 2 came out, a lot of people bashed the ending. When I finally beat it, I didn't get why. Didn't they expect another sequel? They why WOULDN'T there be a cliffhanger.

Demon's Souls discovered the happy little masochist within me...
Wait! Maybe that was Etrian Odyssey. Ghost and Ghouls, perhaps? Mega Man...?

I got this for Mirror's Edge. The impression being "well, they tried something new and so what if it didn't work". Hell, I might pay $60 for Mirror's Edge 2.
And I found that it worked very well (that might be because I have the PC version). I'd pay $75 for Mirror's Edge 2.

And quite often, I find that every single widespread complaint is typically unjustified (maybe because I have low standards, or am biased by everyone hating it so it turns out better than expected).

I don't tend to follow reviews like a sheep. They're largely based on opinion. I just use them as a guide (for instance, Haze looked little under "average shooter" according to the demo, then I got the reviews back which told me you drop the drugs after that mission.)
I loved Assassin's Creed and the sequel, I disliked Final Fantasy VII, especially in favour of X. Personal opinion. I can see the flaws in AC and FFX and I can see why FF7 was notable but I'm still gonna play what I want.

Oh, and I really should hate the new Prince of Persia (I disliked the combat, I hated the ending, etc.) but honestly? I rented it for a weekend and enjoyed running about. I suppose if you paid full price for it you'd be far more annoyed, though.

I think for me though, I have sort of the opposite problem where I play a game that everyone says is awesome and I neeeeeeed to try it out for some odd reason, and I just plain end up hating it or not finding it particularly immersive or interesting.

example: Killzone 2, SOCOM Tactical Strike, and a few others I can't think of at the moment.
This, but mostly for Halo 3.

Mirror's Edge, though I have only observed it, looks very good, despite some comments.

It's because one person, generally a reviewer, finds something that they alone dislike. People thne follow and repeat the reviewer's opinion as their own because they can't think for themselves.

[small]I'm looking at you, Yahtzee...[/small]
This
You know, you guys forget the key word in critic...critic. As Yahtzee said in the Mailbag Showdown: "I do point out everything bad about a game, but then I'm a critic, it'd be weird if I didn't. If I put balls in my mouth I'd be a prostitute...but I critize, so I'm a critic...Do you really need someone in authority giving you a 'yay' or 'nay' before you buy anything? Why don't you roll over so they can stamp on the other side of your face?"

If you like something, good. If you don't, too bad, get over it and hope the next thing is better. Don't go whining every time someone gives their opinion on a subject just because you disagree with it. One person's opinion does not represent the opinion of an entire group, and an entire group's opinion doesn't necessarily represent yours.

Again, to quote Yahtzee, " It's worth remembering that all reviews are subjected to personal opinion, and if you personally enjoy the game then they really shouldn't get to you...unless of course, there's a despicable little niggling doubt in the back of your mind that you're not having as much fun as you've convinced yourself you're having, and it doesn't go away no matter how many times you try to slap it down with the wet flannel of weak excuses..."

No I don't have this memorized, I went back to the video and watched it :p

Dark messiah was depicted by some magazine as "The ugliest game running on the source engine" But I think it was quite on par with other games that came out the same year, it was just a bit dark and gray but so was GTA IV and look at what that game received on awards

GameTrailers bitched for the whole review of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days that the tutorial takes way too long. And I mean the whole review.

I played the game, yes the tutorial takes longer than most, but it doesn't take THAT fucking long!
That was a complaint? I can't even remember what the tutorial was like! And it was only five missions or so, wasn't it? Not long at all.

On topic: Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. I don't remember any outsanding complaints about it, just that it was bad. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I even played through a second time.
