Ever met a person who acted in a way that caused you to think he'd believe in Idea Group A, but later on you find out he actually really likes Idea Group B?

Like you meet a guy at some party, and he seems like a pretty fun guy. He's nice, clever, and pretty hilarious at times. So you two become friends. After a while, you invite him over to your house for a night of fun with your other friends and he agrees. But, upon seeing that one of your friends is black, he looks at you a bit pissed off and says, "Dude, I thought there wouldn't be any niggers here.", which causes you basically say "What the fuck, man?!".

For me, there's this one guy that frequently is around two other friends(not that close, though) of mine. If you'd had met him, you'd also think(as I once did) that he's pretty much a 100% U.S.(because the term differs from country to country) Conservative(Better word choice than Republican. He loves war and guns, is disgusted by Vegetarianism, and is kind of mentally unstable(which doesn't mean that conservatives are mentally unstable, but it helps :D)).

BUT at one point he actually said that he approved of Universal Healthcare AND Gun Control(if you met the guy, it's a bit of a suprise but then again I didn't know him that well).

I seem to have that effect on people when they think I'm some sort of sick minded evil bastard, then I show them my favorite playlist on my iPod which consists mainly of harps and pianos and whatever instruments Celes' theme from FF6 was supposed to use.

The majority of my mates love things like gaming, anime and movies.

Imagine my surprise when I bring up D&D to a chorus of "Oh that's only for nerds!".

Hahaha... Though that's kind of understandable to me(don't ask me to explain it, as I can't really articulate what I mean on that very well).

For a while I thought one of my friends was a completely insensitive and disrespectful asshole, but recently, I found out that he's actually pretty intelligent and understanding (although still a bit insecure with his emotions). Hooray!

I know the feeling, I just can't pinpoint a specific example at the moment. But yes, very shocking when it happens.

I know this guy, and I figured "A highschooler? He must be liberal!" But then I made an off-hand joke at the expense of Sean Hannity, and he flipped a shit.

I think I fall into the same category as your friends there... :p

OT: This doesn't really happen very often to me - people I meet around tend to be pretty accepting of most things. I suppose it's a good thing really.

My parents used to believe that gaming caused violence in real life, and that Columbine was linked to Doom. I am NOT joking.

I just hope I don't inherit too many of their genes...

Well after 14 years I found out my dad doesn't believe it was Lee Harvey Oswald who shot JFK (I don't know what he believes but he doesn't believe it was him).
Also, shortly after our break-up, I figured out that my ex-girlfriend had just found out one of her best friends thought she (one of the best friends) was bisexual and my ex totally flipped out. I was very surprised at her and that was part of the reason why I didn't get back together with her.

I once had a friend who I knew since childhood who kind of surprised me.

We were talking over the phone, and somehow managed to get on the subject of houses being built behind his place. And as we were talking about it, he mentioned offhand that he hoped no Polish moved in there.
There was a long pause. I then, as flatly as possible, said "what".
He went on to clarify that it wasn't racist. He just didn't think it was right that they were coming into our country, stealing all our women and jobs.
I told him he was an idiot and that racism was exactly what it was.

I was wrong, of course. It was bigotry, not racism. But I was fourteen, so shut up.

One of my friends says I talk and act like a Soviet liberal, but think and believe like a US conservative.

Apparently, she actually believes all of this, for real.
Wow, that's one the most determined troll sites of... ever.

EDIT: OK, here's a priceless quote directly off of the site:
"And, it is rather strange that you think you already know what the truth is, considering the fact that you do not have access to Top Secret government information. You simply base reality upon what the media tells you and what Earth's authority figures tell you. You're a tool."

This guy isn't even trying.

OT: Everyone I talk to is pretty transparent... unless I'm just really, really thick.

Do I know you? Your friends sound like me.

OT: None that I can think of.
