Me and my friend used to compete for higher gamerscore (I won) but anyway I tried getting into it and like trash talking the games he used to get achievements. Turns out he hates video game achievements... I still can't believe it...

OP brings up an interesting point. The idea of this political duality is totally false. If I'm for gun rights, then it logically follows that I'm against abortion? No, not in the slightest. However, that's how political discourse is framed here in the U.S., us or them. I'm not sure if a representative republic can actually function in this manner. It becomes about US versus THEM, who's side is WINNING, not about crafting effective legislation, or ensuring that the most competent people end up in power. Honestly, I wish we'd have these "wtf....you think WHAT?" moments more often, as it would mean people are thinking for themselves on an issue instead of letting some group determine their political views. Right now, it seems to be more of a knee-jerk response to superficial issues that work people into a tizzy. ("I'm joining this party, 'cause I'm a Christian and they are too." "Well, I'm joining that party 'cause I'm vegan and they are too.")
