I have a problem as well. The matchmaking is horrible for Greece I might say. Sure you American biggots have no problem connecting to a billion servers and play with cute tiny pings, but when it comes to this country, I can't seem to find a server most of the time and when I do I get a ping of 600 or so. It all began ever since the first dlc, that enabled you to chose servers (now all I get is a: There are no servers in my area msg. Well then search OUTSIDE my area!).

It feels like they just left the servers as is and they are now overloaded as a result of the 30 or so Crash Course games that always seem to be running.
Well, it is called CRASH Course :p How fitting...

Since the two hours it took just to get the download the game has been for lack of a better word, totally unplayable. I have just spent the best part of an hour in the game trying to find even a half decent vs game. Every single server was a total lag fest with pings of no less than 250, prior to the update you could join a game in seconds and almost be certain of a ping of less than 50.
Say what it took you 2 hours to download the game? What do you have 1 bite internet speed, My game took less than a minute to download and when I joined a vs match in no time different to normal, about just under 30 seconds the game played out fine, maybe even perfectly with no lag at all, My advice would be to change your service provider or upgrade your internet speed

Even if what you said was actually Valve's fault, how does that make you not want L4D2? L4D1 is (allegedly) shit now, and their focus is (allegedly) on L4D2, which will be awesome. I'm not sure that I follow your logic. It's like refusing to buy new clothes because you think your old ones are raggedy and don't fit anymore, which they aren't.

In short: wat?

Sometimes you get shit servers yes, but that isnt valve's mistake; they could optimize the code a bit but meh, great game none the less

Last night I played Left 4 Dead for a couple of hours. Matchmaking set me up with games in under a second. My ping was always under fifty. Gameplay was smooth and pleasant.

It's your end, dude.
agreed, all your base are not working properly.
And, subsequently, are no longer belong to us.

I love Left 4 Dead. I'll be getting Left 4 Dead 2. I'm reasonably certain I'll love that too. I don't need a stranger feeding me invalid reasons to not spend my own money on enjoyment.

When the content came out up until about 4 days ago (last time I played) alot of servers were giving really high pings.

It wasn't just his end, as the whole server was fucked and everyone in the game was complaining saying how all the servers they have played on that day had been laggy as hell.

We returned to lobby about 4 times before we found a server with decent ping, but the majority of games I've played post update have been 250+.

Pre update had no issues whatsoever with the game. (Apart from when it was first released but those were patched out)

Don't see why servers wouldn't have been updated 4 days ago, they have had more than enough time.

WHY are people coming up with the advice that it is my ISPs fault. If you had asked some basic questions like

'have you been having connection problems'
'what kind of speeds do you get'
'what is your typical ping like'

basically anything that approaches even a basic investigative process designed to diagnosis an ISP side issue, then and only then would you turn to the recommendation that you should be considering another ISP.

Valve update server was crap on the day, the auto connection that the game uses was assigning crap servers. How does that equal 'it's your ISPs fault'? Let me clarify. MY ISP has been rock solid for over a year now, IT IS NOT MY ISP, some basic pointers for this fact are

a). Speed test shows a stable connection at the speeds I would expect with a ping I would expect.
b). None of my other internet activity had any issues including playing BF2, the only thing that had issue was the update and the game L4D
c). Lag and crap ping affected EVERYONE in the same game, not just me.

We returned to lobby about 4 times before we found a server with decent ping, but the majority of games I've played post update have been 250+.
I would be careful man you'll have a raft of people saying how they had no issues and it's your ISPs fault

Just like I don't need a stranger giving me... well you didn't actually give any advice, you just told me that you loved the game... which I don't care about and doesn't really help me.

The issues ARE Valves fault, they made the game and they created the crap match making code that was assigning you to servers that were total shite. Fortunatly using the openserver command gave me access to a host of servers that actually work and suffered no ping issues. The fact that someone from here had to PM me to help me out and that no one that actually posted in this topic could help out beyond telling me how great they thought the game was and how it was all my ISPs fault is quite worrying.

So for those that may be having issues and didn't know that you can by pass the matchmaking service and chose your own server you need to activate the command console in the games options and then type 'openserverbrowser' this will list the servers along with the ping and then allow you to chose a server that is best suited.

Thanks to fix-a-spade, who I am sure didn't post here but actually had the courtesy to give some advice to resolve the issue via PM.

OH and PS any amount of money that the servers will still be total arse on the day L4D2 comes out!

...Alright? Don't buy it then? No one is telling them to buy it, we just don't want to hear why we shouldn't.

Hmmm. I'll probably buy it. But, does anyone want to know what games I'm not going to buy? Should I write them in here, or start my own thread?

I don't see this as a logical reason not to buy L4D2. Also can someone please explain the point of the boycott that has taken place to me? I know why its being boycotted, but I just don't see the point of it.

It's just people NOT buying a game. You could say I'm boycotting Cheerios. Why? What's the point? I just don't want any.

Make sure your windows firewall is A. Disabled or B. Is permissing Steam and L4D.

I started out as a L4D2 boycotter. I felt betrayed, dissolusioned. But one thing, before all this flying folks out to valve stuff started happening, changed my mind.

Director controlled Air Force bombing runs. Just the THOUGHT of what could be done with that...

L4D2 doesn't seem like a sequel, more like LD4 1.5. I won't so much boycott as wait for the price to drop. If they released L4D2 for $40, then I would probably buy it.
