Say what it took you 2 hours to download the game? What do you have 1 bite internet speed, My game took less than a minute to download and when I joined a vs match in no time different to normal, about just under 30 seconds the game played out fine, maybe even perfectly with no lag at all, My advice would be to change your service provider or upgrade your internet speed
WHY are people coming up with the advice that it is my ISPs fault. If you had asked some basic questions like
'have you been having connection problems'
'what kind of speeds do you get'
'what is your typical ping like'
basically anything that approaches even a basic investigative process designed to diagnosis an ISP side issue, then and only then would you turn to the recommendation that you should be considering another ISP.
Valve update server was crap on the day, the auto connection that the game uses was assigning crap servers. How does that equal 'it's your ISPs fault'? Let me clarify. MY ISP has been rock solid for over a year now, IT IS NOT MY ISP, some basic pointers for this fact are
a). Speed test shows a stable connection at the speeds I would expect with a ping I would expect.
b). None of my other internet activity had any issues including playing BF2, the only thing that had issue was the update and the game L4D
c). Lag and crap ping affected EVERYONE in the same game, not just me.
We returned to lobby about 4 times before we found a server with decent ping, but the majority of games I've played post update have been 250+.
I would be careful man you'll have a raft of people saying how they had no issues and it's your ISPs fault
I love Left 4 Dead. I'll be getting Left 4 Dead 2. I'm reasonably certain I'll love that too. I don't need a stranger feeding me invalid reasons to not spend my own money on enjoyment.
Just like I don't need a stranger giving me... well you didn't actually give any advice, you just told me that you loved the game... which I don't care about and doesn't really help me.
The issues ARE Valves fault, they made the game and they created the crap match making code that was assigning you to servers that were total shite. Fortunatly using the openserver command gave me access to a host of servers that actually work and suffered no ping issues. The fact that someone from here had to PM me to help me out and that no one that actually posted in this topic could help out beyond telling me how great they thought the game was and how it was all my ISPs fault is quite worrying.
So for those that may be having issues and didn't know that you can by pass the matchmaking service and chose your own server you need to activate the command console in the games options and then type 'openserverbrowser' this will list the servers along with the ping and then allow you to chose a server that is best suited.
Thanks to fix-a-spade, who I am sure didn't post here but actually had the courtesy to give some advice to resolve the issue via PM.
OH and PS any amount of money that the servers will still be total arse on the day L4D2 comes out!
