Socialism has inherent as well moral problems with it. Socialism tends to lead to lack of innovation, bolsters inefficiency, and the government always seems to fuck up anything it gets it's hands on. Not to mention to moral problems such as someone taking the money that you earned and giving it to someone else who didn't.

I disagree. There is an epidemic on these forums, where it is ok for someone to come in, make a inappropriate or hate-filled comment in a thread, and then vanish just as quickly. They make no attempt to add a damn thing to the discussion, and totally disregard that there may even be another side to it. For example, every thread about Glenn Beck or Limbaugh, some idiot will chime in with "I think we should kill them", or something to that effect. It's childish. Yes, we know this is a liberal forum, and that's fine, but for God's sake, can we at least make an attempt here to acknowledge both sides of the coin? I like Fox News, that doesn't make me a redneck idiot.

Take a comment like this for example:

Shit like this goes totally unchecked 90 percent of the time around here. If you are a conservative American on these forums, you have to read through garbage like this all the time on here. If I didn't genuinely love this community, I wouldn't stay, and most people on here are really cool and understanding. But, you shouldn't be allowed to just make some asshat type comment that you have no intention of following through on, especially something potentially criminal in nature, without being called out on it, and that is what I was doing.

And, if I come into an Obama thread and leave a comment like "He's the worst President ever" and leave, yes, I would expect the same treatment. Sorry for the ranting.

WRONG. That's communism. Communism is the equal class thing. That is NOT socialism.

Socialism is, simply put, the government controls certain means of production that the public sector can't. If insurance companies aren't paying money that people need, government steps in and offers a "public option." And, its still capitalism- if someone doesn't like one option because it is too expensive, their private option, they can switch to the public option, which offers reasonable prices.

Even five minutes on wikipedia can describe the difference between socialism and communism. Stop talking out of your ass, and learn what it is that you are saying.

I didn't even post that on this thread...

Uhhh, whut?

Socialism takes private property way from you (your money) and gives it to everyone else (public property). Communism distributes it slightly differently than socialism, but the distribution method is still there.

Also, my criticisms of socialism were also listed under the criticism of socialism section [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_socialism] on Wikipedia. Just thought you might like to know.

That's what conservatives do. They talk tough and somewhat sensible when they are in power, but turn into raging assholes when knocked from their thrown.

See, that's the Limbaugh/Beck/O'Rielly explanation, which isn't necessarily correct. Socialism refers to various theories of economic organization advocating public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources, and a society characterized by equal access to resources for all individuals with a method of compensation based on the amount of labor expended. (Wikipedia)

You guys, however, advocate the creation of a single-party state. You want that your government forbids and suppresses openness and opposition to the government. You also oppose class conflict, blame capitalist liberal democracies for its creation and communists for exploiting the concept.

Sorry if this should have gone in the News Room, but I thought that was for the gold-coloured names of the beat writers.

A war of sorts has "offically" broken out between Fox and the White House, more specifically: Beck and Obama.

Comments from any side of the political spectrum?
(I'm British, the Guardian is British)
Obama lies and has done nothing at all since he has taken office

Wow, the Americans get so pent up about their politics. It's crazy, seems like most people in th UK couldn't give a damn about the future of their country. So kudos to the US I guess, for taking this much interest in their politics. On the other hand, it does all seem a bit much. I mean, will it really make such a difference to their lives? I dunno, I'm just very, very drunk at the moment. Sorry.

If the US wasn't the most powerful country in the world, I'd be enjoying the spectacle. Hell, I'm enjoying it anyway. It's hilarious how the US democracy seems even more dysfunctional than Taiwan's, where elected officials have fistfights and throw lunch-boxes/chairs/mics/random-throw-able-items at each other. Well, at least it's exciting and dysfunctional, unlike Canada where it's boring and dysfunctional.

And due to random comments that are not related to the topic, this is quickly becoming a flame war. And we're not even done the first page yet.

Wow, I was always knew that FOX News was full of twats and god knows what else, but are they seriously trying to do this? May I point out that when my school had mock elections, that anyone who voted Obama was "hazed" outside of school. We could do nothing about this, seeing as no adults from the school saw this happening. And when I confronted one of the hazers about what he did, he told me it because his parents watch FOX News and are always telling him that we are headed down the path of communism. This kid has all A's and is an honor student at my school, but yet he believes in close-minded thinking like this.

I think that maybe if people got their heads out of their asses and actually paid attention to what was really going on, FOX News would lose its steam and be forced to tell the truth, but until then, they will stay on the extremely conservative side of life. But one has to wonder, did anyone of these so called "republican right wings" ever just think about sucking it up and stop lying to everyone? Probably not, but it's something to think about.

It is below the office of the president to be at "war" with a domestic news organization. The news organization can be at war with whom ever it wants. It is actually a sign of a healthy country that crack pots such as Fox News are permitted to exist. There are some places where open decent of the government gets you dragged out into the street and shot.

Even with all the subversion Fox News is putting out, the US is no closer to open rebellion than it was 5 or 10 years ago, and for that I am thankful. I am not saying there aren't people in the US who want to overthrow the government, but I don't think their numbers are significant enough to pose a threat. They just now have a mouth piece through a well funded media organization.
