War in Iraq. Will it be a game? Now I may be a bit slow in the gaming world, but as far as I know, this game hasn't been made yet. And it god me thinking, since we have numerous games on World War 2. Will they make a game on War in Iraq?

I know they most certainly won't in the nearest future. Obviously, because it's probably too soon. It's barely over yet. But for the sake of this question, let's travel forth in time. Now we're at a time where it's been long enough since this actually happened for it to be okay to make a game about it. Kinda like Vietnam and World War 2.

Would they? Would they make a game about this? If they would, would it be Americans? Would Europeans dare take this event into a game? Asian? As for Americans I think they would rather want to shove this under the carpet. From what I know, it wasn't really a very good idea in the first place (another discussion, wich I know there's a thread about). Would the Americans drop the making of this game, due to there being some unfairness in this?

If they did make the game - who would be the victim? Would the AMercains make themselves the world defenders or would they make Iraquios' the victim of a powerful attack. If Americans did go through with creating this game, would they rely on the fact that other European countries participated (Stupid as-licking politicians) to make themselves look less brutal? Would they include Kuwait, since they weren't on the completely good side?

Bottom line is this: Would such a game be made? If so, who would make it? And how would it follow the story?

America will consider it a "tradegy" and not do it.

Also it wasn't a war, it was a scuffle.
Your right and wrong. It's not a war, it's an insurrection.

I don't think a large developer would even consider it, but maybe a small group of people would consider doing such a thing, just for the hell of it. But it would have to cost over $845 billion USD.

I think they will but I doubt it will be completely rooted in facts. They will probably go with the "platoon perspective" and do thier best to avoid the politics of the situation.

Maybe you will be the team that finds and disarms the WMDs. If that isn't to sensitive a subject.

Yes, I think it will be made. We already have plenty of games taking place in the middle east with the enemy being the vague terrorist/fundamentalist/suicide bomber figure.
Besides, war games doesn't have to be the most complex, in world war two games the conflict between Nazi Germany and America was very clear cut. The Iraq war would probably be the same thing, difference in freedom/dictatorship, etc.
Most games concerning real events will simplify reality a little. It's called escapism for a reason.

But if they do - will Americans react? I mean it seems like they're reacting to anything they can find offensive. I'm sure they'd react with big means if someone were to make a game like this.
Especially if they were to potrait the Americans as the bad guys

But isn't that a bit contradicting? I mean if you want to Escape reality it's kind of odd to play a game were you take in as a role of a real fight, isn't it? And if they simplify the facts, someone is bound to be offended. There's no definete right or wrong side in this war, and I don't know if they're all able to make that clear in a game

There was one being planned, but controversy caused Konami to decide to not publish it.

Here's an article discussing the controversy:

Part of the controversy was that a certain amount of the money for development came from the CIA's cover firms.

Games will be made about that war, if probably only when history has formed an opinion about what it was. Everyone making a game about it before has probably been paid by some US bureau.

There is a game called Desert Storm you know.
More pertinently, there's a game called Desert Storm 2.

It's already happened, there's plenty of games set it 'unspecifiedestan' that are clearly Iraq, like CoD4. As for it actually being explicitly called War in Iraq, it'll happen as soon as Americans coll down enough to stop sending publishers death threats.
So about 6 weeks after the US pull out.

6 Days in Fallujah.

Last I heard, the publisher backed out, but Atomic Games is still trying to make it.

Um yeah, they made plenty of those games. One of the big ones is Call of Duty 4. They just don't come out and say "Iraq" because it's politically charged.

Well, WWII games aren't exactly rare or unpopular these days. Just because a game is based on D-Day it doesn't mean that the player needs to sit down and read up on history and Nazi ideology to have fun, most of the time, the WWII setting will be a standard setting to add some realism to a simple FPS.
And concerning simplification of facts: There are already plenty of controversies surrounding games, so I doubt this will cause a major upheaval. People don't go to games for education, but for fun. Historical accuracy is generally reserved for books and documentaries.

They have made many games about the war, but, due to political correctness they have to take place in 'Unspecifiedestan'
