I would spew off into a huge book-sized rant about this. I'll make it short and sweet.

Space Marines / Terrans

Eldar / Protoss

Tyranids / Zerg

If I deserve it flame me for being late on this realization..

you are several YEARS late on this realization.

hell, the Blizzard development team has openly admitted that a lot of the StarCraft/Warcraft design borrows heavily from collective GameWorkShop IP. Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo... all these games are simply Video game representations of Table Top games which they played a lot.

Dungons and Dragons, Warhammer, Warhammer 40k...

You know I don't really see the similarities between the Eldar and Protoss. Out of everything in Starcraft they're the most original.

However the Zerg and Terran are rip offs without shame.

Blizzard has already said that both the Fantasy and 40k backgrounds where major influences in the making of their games.

Lol, If they openly admitted it... Good on them. Though I find even with 40k's late entry into the video game world, that they surpassed Starcraft by the sheer depth of the 40k universe. Don't get me wrong, kudos to Bliz for keeping on the gravy train.

Oh, I don't know... Eldar = slightly humanoid looking super advanced race with latent magical psychic powers; Protoss = slightly humanoid looking super advanced race with latent psychic powers.
Yeah but at least the culture and personality of the Protoss is different from the Eldars
"wah were dying" attitude.

Yes.

Also, most people don't realize that Blizzard WAS WORKING ON A WARHAMMER 40K RTS GAME but couldn't get the licensing. So they called it Starcraft and made it that instead.

Might be a bit wrong there.
Aye, as far as I know, they intended to have Starcraft and Warcraft be games sponsored by Games Workshop, but GW cut the deal. I may be completely misinformed, so correct me if that's wrong. Anyhows, yes, Starcraft is highly influenced by WH40K.

I've heard (from a GW employee) that future Blizzard releases will have to mention Games Workshop in the credits. Apparently legal action has been taken, and justice dispensed...although not via the exterminatus of Blizzard, unfortunately.

Makes sense... Just roll with the punches. I do like the twist that they made with the marines though... Instead of a bunch of zealots (space marines) they went completely opposite. It turned out to be really good. Not to mention, the ever-famous click-quotes... Firebats one of my favs. But, 40k's got some cool ones on its games...

I believe you are wrong. There is a rumour though that they had made a deal to make a PC version, but the deal fell through and they were left what is now known as Warcraft. I'm pretty sure that's just a rumour.

Anyway to OP.
Warhammer has influenced a lot of popular games/movies/books. I don't see why it's so horrible, without warhammer influencing them we would have never got such great games as Warcraft and Starcraft!

But yes koodos to you for discovery that they are similar.

ive heard that to. it make sense if you think about it. how almost all of the races in Warcraft / Starcraft look like GW armies and why GW has yet to sue over these infringements

I hate when that happens.

Because Blizzard altered WHFB/WH40K sufficiently enough to make Warcraft/Starcraft (respectively) very different from the source material (from a strictly legal point of view, that is).
GW can't sue because they used "inspirations" themselves, mainly from the Alien movies and the Starship Troopers book.
Ironically, Blizzard tried to sue GW because the 4th edition Ravener [http://img10.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ravener.jpg] looks like a Hydralisk [http://img3.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hydralisk.jpg].
I don't know what happened with the lawsuit.

I was thinking the same thing myself at one point... They are so similar.. I think people have been killed for less... Not to mention how much GW charges for its little models... They should be rolling in the dough, they could handle the legal charges...

I think that you assume too much. The game warhammer was based on the books and on the table top game. The first book about warhammer was released in 1987, which was 11 years before starcraft came out. At that time the tyranids, space marines, and elder already existed. So the game didn?t steal them from anyone other than the age old standards of the bad assed humans, smart ass aliens, and dumb ass swarms. They barrowed game play stiles from starcraft but not characters, races, or stories. The warhammer universe is much vaster than that of starcraft, including many more races than those three and massive amounts of great book based back story.

You forgot that Orks = Orcs, from Warcraft. Durr.

I'm not a huge Warhammer 40,000 fan, in that I don't play the games much and don't follow it at all, but there is a certain quality to its madness, its juvenile gothic death universe, that appeals to me. I bought Dawn of War II a few days ago, and aside from enjoying it quite a bit, what really struck me at first about the universe is that it essentially combines the best lore and gameplay elements from Blizzard's three cardinal franchises, Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo. It's so completely ridiculous and nerdy while still taking itself 100% seriously that there's no way you can't love it.
