Can't say that I do - for all that I'm a massive Warhammer 40,000 fan, I'm a lore junkie, not a hobbyist. So I tend to constrain myself to collecting/reading all the novels the Black Library puts out, the various 40K games Relic has released, and the various 40K RPG supplements that Fantasy Flight Games puts out.

I like the universe, but also don't play the tabletop game. I tried Warhammer Fantasy (have a bunch of old stuff for it gathering dust) but never really got into it, and while the Warhammer 40k universe is interesting (and I guess it's a more successful game) the TT version just never appealed to me for some reason.

I don't think I have a favorite faction really. The Tau strike me as not fitting in too well on a lot of levels, The Space Marines are cool but overdone, The Imperial Guard is pretty cool, but I don't think it's really viable in a skirmish-level based game. The Sisters Of Battle are neat, but don't seem to have ever been developed paticularly well, and they seem kind of redundant with Space Marines on a lot of levels given the whole focus on fanaticism.

Honestly, I think the 40k universe works better for telling stories on a smaller scale. I enjoyed the books about the Inquisition like "The Eisenhorn Triology" and the "Ravenor" series, and some of the "Necromunda" novels were okay. "Gaunt's Ghosts" was pretty solid overall as well, but had it's ups and downs. I could mention others, but oddly I think it's a far better series of books (at least when I read more) than a TT game. Of course that's probably heresy to most people given where it started.

Proud Tyranids player here.
Feels great to swarm the board with hundreds of little gaunts.
Too bad the recent codex's have lowered their effectiveness :(

Haven't played recently. It was fun more because of who I played with. Mainly because they hated Necrons ;-)

Anyone here play 40k?

I do and as youve probably guessed from my profile picture I play tau because I love the battle suits and they are absolutely great for trolling with

Also I despise spacemarines
I favor the Tau as well, although an Eldar wraith army is just so tempting... My Shas'O says I should talk to a counselor about that.

Got a huge, ongoing campaign this weekend and a ticket to Games Day in my wallet!

My friends and I have just about every novel and codex you can find. (I admit, some of them are pdf files...)

I myself have played Space Marines, Chaos, Imperial Guard (Pirates!), and Daemon Hunters.

It's probably my favorite hobby of all time...

I'm a pretty big fan, I just like the whole darkness of the universe, and the fact that there's such a talented bunch of shamelessly money-grabbing Brits behind it all.

I started with Eldar, but I've now got Imperial Guard, Space Marines and a bunch or Orks as well. I much prefer collecting and painting the models over playing games with them.

Love all the books, one of my friends at work has almost every Black Library book ever published so I have a steady stream of them to read. Alos got all the Dawn of Wars. Have to say I prefer the first one over the second game.

Does anyone know anything about a rumoured Sisters Of Battle release at the end of this year/early next year?

I've played since the early 90s. Space Marines, Tau, Imperial Guard, Battle Sisters... Would be fun to start collecting Orks at some point, or maybe Necrons for the beardiness.

Also play Empire in Fantasy.

EDIT: Oh, and I've played the computer games, particularly Chaos Gate. And I read the books. And I play the Fantasy Flight Games tabletop RPGs, of which I'm in the middle of a Deathwatch game now.

Oh, and my wife plays Crimson Fists and is steadily ploughing through the Horus Heresy books. And the Soul Drinkers books. And, in fact, any Black Library 40K books she can find.

40k?

*Ahem*

Yes I do play it, why do you ask?

OT: I play da Orkz because green is best. And it's fun to get 4 attacks from a single model on a charge from a unit of 6-point models that usually come in groups of 20 (if not more).

I'm actually thinking about checking out the Dark Eldar though, their new models intrigue me.

That being said, I too am generally tired of fighting SPESS MEHREENS!, with their METAL BAWKS and multiple, simuln-tehneous, and devastating defensive deep strikes, especially the Smurfs. When you go to a local tournament and most of the armies there are some version of them, they get pretty annoying with their fancy 3+ saves.

Chaos Space Marines are pretty cool though. Especially Alpha Legion. Because we are all Alpharius.

Filthy xenos...

I recently picked up the Space Wolves battleforce and I'm slowly building them when I get spare time. Then comes the hard part: painting them well with as little experience as I have in that area. Though I don't really know anyone nearby that plays and I don't have the time to search any players out. It'll be nice to have them though. They'll probably guard my desk at work until I find a worthy opponent.

I've also read the The Founding, the Ultramarines Omnibus, and I'm starting into Eisenhorn now. The lore is my favorite part. The mix of dystopic sci-fi with historic influences and fantasy elements is an odd combination at first, but it really grows on you. I'd suggest anyone interested to try out Dawn of War 2 to get a taste, then maybe grab a book or two to get a deeper experience. The game itself is much more interesting when you understand the underlying lore. My first exposure to the game was through a friend who intimately described the frightening effects of Tyranid weapons as he played, which made the abstraction of dice rolling and turns a lot more exciting.

Love it, even though I haven't had a chance to play tabletop for a long while. Got all the DOWs bar Retribution, killed a Greater Daemon in Fire Warrior and am feverishly waiting for Space Marine to be released.

352nd Krieg Static Infantry regiment. For the God-Emperor!
