I just recently started played DnD (it's a tabletop game, so it counts!)

Myself as DM, w/ four friends playing characters. It's absolutely some of the best fun out there.
DnD got its start from wargaming. Out of curiosity, you sticking with an older edition or are you upgrading to 4th?
Just spent ~$100 USD on 3.5 books/basic set, so no thanks. Say NO to four-point-oh!

You pay money for rulebooks?

Noob.
Yes, because fucking about looking through a PDF version when you're just trying to look up a stat line or rule clarification whilst playing is a pain in the arse, and if you go to the lengths of printing the PDF, then by the time you've paid for the paper and printer cartridges you've probably spent just as much as you would if you just bought the bloody rulebook in the first place, and rulebooks are a lot more convenient to carry around than a PC, even a laptop, because it doesn't matter if they get a bit dinged in transit.

"40k" refers to Warhammer 40000. Tabletop miniatures strategy game (and setting for same) produced by Games Workshop. It's basically got all your standard fantasy races*, and a few Sci-Fi ones like giant bugs and anime robots, but a lot meaner, and in space.

*Except dwarves. They all got eaten by the giant bugs.

Did you just call the necrons anime? Or were you talking about the tau, who really aren't robots even if they use very anime-like mechs?
If 1 please die a horrible death. If 2, fair enough. :)

By all means show the conversions. hehehehe love the dead bodies for your custom 'nid, lovely touch
Interesting story for that one conversion.

I was working with the rules for a custom Nid monstrosity and decided to go with a winged super-ravener, and decided to put a skull in its open mouth. I picked through all the skeleton sprues I had on hand, and couldn't find a single skull, having used them all on my Chaos forces. Looking at the parts to built fourty mostly-complete headless skeleton I decided to call the thing "The Decapitator", and piled headless bodies about an inch high on his large baseplate. He sits atop his throne of bone, and awaits being painted.
*cries* That...is so beautiful. *sniff* I want a flying super-Ravener of doom too!

methinks he was referring to the Tau as the anime robots. My friends and I always joke about how the Tau were invented to get the Gundam Fanboys into 40K. The battlesuits are basically the same bloody things as gundams, except on a smaller scale.

As for the necrons, they're more like something out of a James Cameron *coughcoughTerminatorcough* film

I always wondered how they got away with calling it "We'll be back". Such a cheesy one liner that wouldn't come out of a necrons mouth, seeing as they don't talk.
"They will return" or "Why the fuck are they getting up, I thought you said it was dead! Fucking shoot it!" would be much better.

The Necrons are really tidy with their work. The fact that they'd wipe a planet clean of all life down to the very last bacteria shows how dedicated they are to their cause. By the way... is there any, at all, backstory to the Necrons other then some ancient race made them billions of years ago?

Not that I recall, although the only fluff I find interesting is of orks.

Although, i played the Soulstorm demo and I found the dark eldar quite interesting. Is there anything on them without getting the codex?

"The Eldar could have wiped out the Necrons forever, but they were too busy creating the God of Porn." - My friend Lewis.

That's pretty much all I know of them.

No, the Necrons are just your ordinary run of the mill Space Undead. Tau are clearly the logical interpolation of stuff like Gundam into 40k.

The dark eldar are emo eldar. When Slaanesh was born and all the eldar started dying, they went to their room in the webway. They hid from everybody else because 'nobody understands them'. they like to torture small animals and cut things. they have a tendency to dress in dark colours and lots of spikes. they like to hang out in groups at the intergalactic mall and talk loudly about how unfair life is. they experiment with drugs, and in general are a detriment to the advancement of society as we know it.

I'm sorry, but I just hate the dark eldar.

I like them. I don't like to USE them, but they do go CRUNCH under the treads, and that makes me all warm and fuzzy.
to be honest, what race DOESN'T make one feel warm and fuzzy when it crunches under tank treads...or Carnifex claws?
