Just completed a full run of Origins and Awakening on Hard (as an Archer, which was way more fun than any of my other playthroughs). It's not my first time on this difficulty, but I took note of how many times I died.
In Origins: 16. Some of those were the result of going early to a area such as the Deserted Building where enemies are abundant and of higher levels. The High Dragon kicked my ass as well, and I died twice against the Archdemon when my mage (Morrigan) was both times so I lost a lot of buffs as well as the healing spells I gave her.
In Awakening: 0. I didn't die once. Not only that, but it was rare for any member of my party to die. A lot of this is because my Archer was so insanely good by the end of Origins that she was doing no less than 200 damage per shot and up to 1000 with the Arrow of Slaying. But still, the expansion is insanely easy. I could have easily died much more in Origins had I drank a Health Poultice just half a second later. I won a good many fights by just a hair, especially early in the game. But in Awakening, not even the bosses provided an appropriate challenge.
