If you could produce any genre-crossover what would you make?
Any ones you thought were a good idea?
Did anyone actually read the first post? I see a bunch of people answering if Halo Wars was a good game or not, when there are other things being pondered.

OT: I can't say if Halo Wars was good or not, but I think it's a story that lends well to RTS. I'm sure it isn't as bad as everyone says and that most are beiong elitist PC gamers (is there any other kind? =O)

As for good genre mash-ups? Bioshock MMO would be my pick. I'd love to play something steampunk/clockpunk/anything-punk with my friends.
Bioshock MMO sounds awesome. Have all servers launch on New Years Eve, what-ever-the-hell-year-it-was-everything-shot-straight-to-hell, and players observe the collapse of rapture first hand, fighting other players for ADAM, food, and ammunition in the chaos surrounding the immediate anarchy for the first half of each server time. Your level of addiction to ADAM determines whether you play as a chronic Splicers or mild addict. Then it plays as a normal MMO until a set amount of time (year? two or three?). Then the whole thing reverts, with the top players at the end of the rotation starting as aristocrats or powerful soldiers at the beginning of the next rotation. Thats how I would do it anyway. Would undoubtedly not work, but it was fun to type out. So there, naysayers. Just lampshaded that shit.

I've played the game, and it was basically a PC RTS put to console controls, so it sucked hard. At Least Brutal Legend made an innovative RTS system that works for consoles and can possibly be used on a PC as well, depending on how the Radial Menus would work.

Without having played the second game yet (obviously) I would invision a post BioShock 1, pre BioShock 2 setting. There would be no factions, just you and a city full of NPCs and players that want you dead. Groups could and would be formed under similar banners (essentially a guild mechanic) to find like minded individuals to help watch your back. ADAM would be in limited supply (that's right!) so not everyone would have really awesome powers. Not only would ADAM drop off large boss encounters that are interspersed as the player base grows, as well as players that are killed, essentially stealing their ADAM up to a garenteed minimum based on some sort of rating system. For the ADAMless, you'd have Power to the People stations to upgrade guns.

As much as I enjoy lovey-dovey, money coems out monsters' asses, everyone gets to be super powerful, casual player MMOs, Rapture is all about kill or be killed and that's what I'd want the system to reflect. No man can take the sweat from the player's brow except men who work harder than him. A fair lesson most MMO players could stand to learn.

Max Payne, after the murder of his wife and only friend, sets out to find out who were behind their deaths. However, the only way he can convince the Mafia to give up their secrets, is through chess.

Max Payne Super Chess Master.

How about a Mortal Kombat-style fighting game featuring Valve characters?
Gordon Freeman vs Chell. TF2 Heavy vs L4D Tank. Counter-Terrorist vs DOD Nazi.

It was an RTS on a console.

So no, it wasn't.
Agree with you here, but I do think it was good to try and make an RTS specifically for the console. Alright, it didn't quite work, but it wasn't a bad game, and to their credit the controls were actually quite good considering what they had to work with.

Now, porting Supreme Commander over to the 360, that was a bad idea.

I don't consider myself an 'RTS elitist ******', but I mean what I say when I say that Halo Wars is a FUCKING TERRIBLE GAME.

We need a Viva Pinata/Condemned crossover. I don't know what that would imply, but it would invariably kick ass.

The last 'decent' console RTS was Tom Clancy's EndWar.

Unfortunately, the voice controls sucked arse for me and continually mistook one order or number for another, making them entirely useless. I've heard some people have nothing but success - more power to them - but for me it was an exercise in frustration and futility.

Frankly, I don't think the RTS genre will ever work on consoles until they either have some sort of touch screen interface or a mouse.

Oh, certainly, a console RTS is currently not really plausible. That said, I still think it was important to try.

This is actually one of the only applications I can see for Natal. It wouldn't be the most elegant solution, but using your finger as a cursor could make a console RTS properly viable.

When the ideal Halo first came out it was going to be a RTS, but they decided hey its fun running around as a little dude and killing people. Soon became and FPS.

Why cant we have a racing game from mass effect? Normandy v1 vs Normandy v2 or Mako vs shuttle. Crossovers can totally work.

I can see that working, but it'd never be as competitive on a high level as something like Starcraft or DotA simply due to limitations. There's no direct feedback from flailing your hands in the air for Natal and the UI would have to be modified about due to no keyboard shortcuts. For instance, no more A+Click for Attack Move, you have to click the picture on the UI for that - and that's assuming you can hit it with your finger and not accidentally get the pictures on the left or right of it.

As I said above, a touch screen might be better as you get the feed back and there's less chance of hitting the wrong button like you have with Natal. I haven't played any of the RTS games on the DS but I can see them working out fairly decently. But I doubt a non-handeheld console is going to go for a touch screen any time soon.

So...yeah, while Natal has the potential to help improve the RTS genre for consoles, I don't see it working out any better than a controller or (for me) voice commands.

A Left 4 Dead- esque MMO could be interesting.
An MMO based ENTIRELY on PVP? How would that work?
The same way Planetside worked and - I assume - Dust 514 will work?

It's not unheard of. Rarer, certainly, but not unheard of.
