was the first full priced game you bought worth the price?

when say first full priced game you bought; I mean with money you earned though some kind of job, not money that you where given as a present, found on the sidewalk, a game someone else paid for.

I recently decided to buy a game have been eyeing for a while at full price($20) with my money since I have an income. I got Transistor full price on the pc. that made be the same people who made bastion, which is a game in my favorite games list.

It has 6 hours story, plus some challenge areas that took up some time and fun gameplay. It seems like that the gameplay is getting more interesting on new game plus as well. I want to see all the what different combinations of ability's I can make. I only played 9-ish hours but I can see my self potentially getting close or maybe even better then $1 = 1 hour of enjoyment.

I got bastion in a Humble Indie Bundle. In a way I view it as supporting supergiant for making bastion and getting game I heard good things about. Even when just looking at Transistor on it's own would say I don't regret playing full price for it, so far.

Edit- I forgot to mention the art style, music, story is good. although You only are given the basics of the story but you are not directly told all the details. From my understanding you are going to have to dig for the details and you get all them in a single playthough. I will be replaying it so I am ok with that.

If I remember rightly, after getting my first proper job, I went out and bought a N64 with part of my first paycheck. This was in 1999 so 3 years after it had been released, and I got Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye, Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing and I forget what else second hand for very little money.

So, yes.

(Having said that I'd had part time jobs before and I'd probably spent that money on games, but I can't remember clearly what I bought).

Metal gear Solid for the PS1 I'd say was well worth the money I'd earned from doing all sorts of housework way back then.

I think a recent example is good for me. See, I had preordered Hyrule Warriors and Smash 3DS at the same time, but for Best Buy's online preorder system something screwed up and I was 95 cents short for Smash 3DS. So after a long call with the Best Buy customer service hotline, I had to cancel the order the day before Smash 3DS came out.

Well, I then went home and was meaning to cash in my coins at the nearest Coin Star for a while. I thought I'd only get like $10, but it turned out to be $47.13. That was enough for me to not only get Smash 3DS from Amazon, but I was also able to pay for the 1 day shipping so I got it launch day. Nothing is more fun then realizing you paid for an entire game with just coins. If it were a Mario game, I'd call it ironically appropriate.

Anyway, since getting a job, I tend to buy most recent releases new. I buy retro games used from a local Mom and Pop store that sells consoles and games all the way back to the Atari 2600. They usually have pretty rare games, and even the rare attachments for systems as well. One of these days I plan on buying a Dreamcast from them, well when they are in stock there. They also have the old Pokemon cartridges, and they only take them if the batteries are alive so I'm never gipped.

Recently? Gen 8, Mario Kart for Wii U. Good game, worth the money.

The first game I bought with money I earned myself was Half-Life. Counting all the mods and such, I got hundreds upon hundreds of hours pf fun out of it. So yeah, it was worth the price.

I feel that for me it was Kingdom Hearts 2, and yes at the time I loved the shit out of that game. I still like it now, but after replaying the first Kingdom Hearts, it kind of made me feel that 2 was almost a step down really

I'm a massive cheapskate and have been that way since I was a child so I don't buy full price that often. I just can't justify blowing $80-100 on game even I really want it. I think NWN was the first game I bought without any discount or package deal but not new release if recall correctly. Was it worth it? well I barely remember that game now but I think I liked it when I first played it. New release games I can think of that I bought full price are...skyrim, GW2 and portal 2. I went thru a period of actually buying into hype and having cash. Portal 2 I don't think worth the price (though it started at $60) even though I like it. Skyrim is I guess simply because of how much time I have sunk into it but I did consider returning it because of the main quest being broken and too many bugs. I have 6 level 80s in GW2 so can't complain about that either.

Star Wars Galaxies; From the moment I installed that game until they pulled the plug (okay, really it was after the second combat overhaul, but I consider that the end of SWG as we all knew it as it abandoned its roots in order to try and turn itself into a WoW clone.

I really loved everything about Pre-CU SWG. This was one of the first games where the players truly made the economy, and until the gold farmers hit in earnest (which was a good few years) the economy allowed you to make a small fortune with a little bit of hard work, while still keeping life in game affordable enough that any player could manage to afford an awesome weapon that had been sliced by a good Smuggler.

The combat flowed a bit slow, but at the same time, when you fought something hard, you knew it (it also helped that there wasn't a con system telling you exactly how powerful that person is, or the cute bunny over there). Even with that, there were still creatures that would take multiple groups to even attempt to take it down.

Jedi were rare as hell, suffered from PermaDeath, and Master Bounty Hunters get assignments to take these Jedi 6' under. At the same time, that Jedi was stupid powerful, and that BH had better have friends who are in on the bounty if he wants to stand a cold chance in hell.

I could probably go on for hours about the stuff I like in game (like the Ewoks, the Galactic Civil War, ect), but I feel like I've assaulted your eyes enough for the time being.

My savings went to a new copy of Star Wars Battlefront 2... good lord, what a correct purchase that was! Didn't have to play anything else on the PS2 for a whole 2 years. And by the time I was finally bored with BF2, I was loaded on work money... from then on the whole PS2 library was mine for the picking.

When I first got a job, I didn't really buy much because I was saving my money for something good. After hearing about the Wii, and that Twilight Princess would be released earlier on the Wii, I pre-ordered the game. The day the Wii came out I went in line and was able to get the system day one, and I also picked up my copy of Twilight Princess. Even though it wasn't till a little later that I used the system more, It was worth getting the Wii and Twilight Princess.

Most recent game I got full price was Hyrule Warriors. While I haven't played much of Dynasty Warriors, what little I played I liked enough. After seeing a trailer or two, and having read a number of reviews (both high, low, and middle of the road), I ordered my copy via Amazon so I can play when I get home.

The first game I bought myself was Jak and Daxter, along with my PlayStation 2 in the summer of 2002.
I still play through it at least once a year since (though I switched to the HD version last year). I'd say it was worth it.

Using money I'd gotten myself... Well I believe that would have to be the first game I ordered from online, Wild Arms 4 (second was Suikoden 5). Its a game that a lot of fans hate for doing things differently but I liked it while also liking the old games.
I enjoyed the direction they took with the battle system as Wild Arms did always have a very generic one in 1-3, and this one was fresh. The bosses with their gimmicks were also wonderful (even if too easy).

Oh and yes it worth the price. It was one of those games that was good throughout for me.

I spent my entire first wage of £85 on a copy of ISS 64 and an extra controller. Got many, many hours out of that game, easily 200+.

Hm... can't really remember what my first full-priced game was... Bought a lot games in magazines and bargain bins... and when i was very young didn't buy a few games at all - they just wound up on my PC...

Going PC - i remember getting my older sister to go and buy me Mortal Kombat IV (I liked I and II)- i think that was worth it.

But i bought gameboy-games years before that - Full price. Had quite a few. Usually i think it was worth it, or i wouldn't have done it again and again *g*.

I think the first full priced game that I paid for with my own money was Bioshock when I bought a 360. I think it was worth it. It took me a while to get through at the time as I wasn't used to shooters on console, but I had a lot of fun with it, especially with the variety in combat.

Edit: Completely forgot about my time being a paperboy when I was younger. SSBM was the first full-priced game I bought. Even more worth it than Bioshock.
