Uhhh, how do you think video games are made? Some kind of magical development kit built straight into the console?
Uhhh, big difference between coding something on a PC and it actually running on the PC. They were actually playing the game on a PC.
Well yeah, tech demo. They obviously haven't localized it to the PS3 or 360 languages yet. This is far from a finished product, and still a step back from being a consumer-level playable demo.

MY GOD! If that's the new 'fox' engine then it looks TERRIBLE. It looks like one of those shitty Rally [http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=claymation+game+90s&oe=UTF-8&um=1&hl=en&biw=1280&bih=680&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=HGBFUMHNHuyVjAKn14GQAQ] hand and arm signal.

I wouldn't really call nine minutes and fifty seconds of cinematic and ten seconds of Snake walking a 'gameplay video', but looks cool nonetheless.

If you can't tell, I'm angry. In attempting to find out of GZ was actually coming to PC, I stumbled across an article on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, in which the author claimed "My feeling is that PC gaming is dead, and that no one should attempt to launch games on the platform, for any reason."
This coupled with you being an asshole and shitting on My preferred platform sent me into a fit of rage. Hence the rant.
Mate, RPS is a PC-exclusive gaming blog. It's their way of ridiculing people who claim PC gaming is dead. :)

I mean, just check out their tag: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/pc-gaming-is-dead/

But I managed a couple of celestial weapons, arguabley there are better weapons depeding on character, some of them were just a huge ball ache to get though. Like I think Lulu's was just stupid with the lightning dodging.

12 I used various things on various plays, I didn't have to grind a lot and used spells and techniks with some intelligence, or at least the useful techniks, none of that crap based on steps or the time. Soul Eater and Gil Toss were very useful. As for weapons I managed to get good ones just fine, the Zodiac Spear is in an optional area but it's easy to get before the last boss if you dont fuck up and you CAN get a second one elsewhere but I don't remember how, I think the chance was ridiculously low in some chest.
1/1000 chance for 2nd Z-Spear. I remember freaking out, "What the hell!!!! You can get the first one fairly early, including a Deathbringer a couple of hours in, which means the challenge is pretty much over for the last 3/4 of the game. (Why I remember this still puzzles me.)

You're from the UK. You have the international version. US doesn't have dark aeons or that extra boss.
For me, the hardest game was the butterflies. I was so astonished when I beat it, having lost all hope. But at least you interacted with the world instead of just farming for items to sell for $ to buy the items for upgrading in 13.

This is why I can't make up my mind with Hideo. Like FF developers over-thought their battle system for simplicity's sake and took the fun out of it, he could very well over-think the plot arc and have me watching a huge portion of the game, again. Graphics work, but for me MGS4's dialogue didn't shine like in U2, but that is all about pacing.
Ah okay, I wish we'd gotten international 12. Not to mention the international release of the Kingdom Hearts games, especially Re:Chain of Memories.
Yeah at least it wasn't just item farming but at the same time it could've been done so much better. My favourite FF for side quests is probably still FF12, I love FF12 and most of the hate it gets it would be completely absolved off if it weren't an FF game.

I loved MGS4 and I loved the story and the gameplay, but I can't watch it again because it's too long winded for the most part. The best MGS to me is still decidedly MGS3, I really hope this new one is a great game or I'll be very sad, I hope it has more substance than just cutscenes, though I don't hate cutscenes, the ratio needs to be improved a touch.

As for FF, I hope if they do a 15, it's a bit more old school JRPG. The world needs a bit more of that.

That's a great Idea. What would be awesome is if the next FF allowed us to switch between this new fast paced, non-interactive combat, or with an adjustment in the settings, the old school slower RPG style. It really shouldn't be that hard to do since the latter is just a turn-taking system.

Final Fantasy 12 really shocked me at how western it felt. No melodrama at all; I mean, Balthier was just freaking cool. He and Fran were chill. Ashe had her business and stayed on point. It was difficult to connect with a character, but I was too busy admiring the diversity of this world (I just wished it was more expansive), that I didn't mind making that sacrifice.

13 felt like a lot of great ideas that were never developed. Characters got in the way of the plot instead of developing the arc, which ruined any chance of consummate story telling. That was what was most frustrating to me. In my eyes, it wasn't even close to finished -- biggest example being Gran Pulse, where Fang and Vanille keep talking about their homes; and having the most cultured apparel in the group, I was expecting something exotic like in Final Fantasy 10's Ronzo Mountain, but instead we got suburban homes.

Hideo has never really understood that gameplay can actually tell a story. This is what has always set Team ICO above other developers. Kojima's vision is limited to gameplay > cutscene > gameplay. I thought by MGS4, they would have found a way for Snake to communicate in radio while exploring, like Dead Spaces' Hub, which transmits information and unfolds the plot while Isaac explores. In MGS, you are literally yanked out of combat and exploration so that the story can be handed to us like via long heats of exposition. But if I wanted an action movie with a nonsensical conspiracy plot, I'd watch something from Micheal Bay.

Kingdom Hearts 2 was alright. I remember getting all of their ultimate weapons only to discover schematics for Ultima +. I just dropped the controller and went on with my life.

I know. Although if they cut out all the bullshit from the game. The pointless cut scenes etc i bet the game would fit on one disk easy. I recently played the HD release of 3 and 4 and wow there is so much pointless crap in the game.

And for all of those other comments, SCREW PC. I don't know how it was four years ago, but in this age, serious gamers use "market" consoles. Who the hell wastes time upgrading their PC each year, and only enough to put settings on Uber High -- and just to match their console counterparts.
Oh look at that, an insecure console gamer incapable of saving up to afford building a gaming PC that doesn't know what he's talking about. You gonna cry, bro?
the PC will always get the hand-me down, lesser-man's, younger brother's port. Unless of course, you play an online MMO, then you're life's already screwed.
Crysis says "hi".
Crysis 2 says "Hey *****, how's it hanging?" > >

Just building my rig and it's pushing £900 and still won't be a huge lover of Crysis 2 above 1920x1080 if it's on ultra settings.

Also Crysis 2 on the PS3 had a lot less detail, not to mention horribly laggy multiplayer with dodgy collision detection. Will be rebuyingon PC once it hits a sale on steam.
Not to mention Crysis 2 was also the most pirated PC game of 2011. You can throw everything you want about how awesome PC is, but unless it's FTP, or loaded with all of that fun protective software gamers love, then every major PC game will flop in sales.

The Witcher 2 was freaking brutalized on the net with about 5 pirated Downloads per one purchase.

Yeah, but they don't have the Used Games market that publishers are always banging on about either.

OT: Regarding the trailer:

I hate to be that guy, but....

A 10 min "gameplay" trailer that includes less than a minute of actual gameplay? Must be Metal Gear Solid.

See but I don't care, thats a service problem and pirates will always find a way around whatever they do. Unfortuneately that's the world we live in, I'll play games wherever suits me best, I'll play on PC if none of my console friends have the game but if they do I'll play on console.

I was really just pointing out that Crysis 2 is fucking staggeringly beautiful on a high end PC. It's also great on consoles, except the multiplayer which i found a touch crappy.

That would indeed be awesome.

I loved the exploration of 12 and I loved 12's world and the amount of lore and backstory behind it, it was all there without being obnoxious and there in place of any kind of explanation or exposition.

You say that but I've never enjoyed a team ico game, I found both Ico and SotC to be incredibly dull experiences. There's a place for cutscenes and a place for telling the narrative through gameplay, as with all things the key is to balance the two out. Some set pieces may be very difficult to implement within gameplay without them just being a QTE, in which case I'd rather just a cutscene, for example (great disdain for QTE's most of the time).

KH2 I was fine getting the Ultimate +, the only hard part was getting the rare drop from the Assassin Nobodies because it was a 2% drop rate if you killed it before it exploded and there are only 2, in one room, after the end of the game.

SE really spent their time on 12. I mean, drafting up a bio for each monster?! They go through a lot of trouble to add the depth for Ivalice in a way entirely absent in 13.

The difficulty in providing a smooth overlap of gameplay and narrative is in the planning department. This takes time. The writers must be very cooperative with other departments. It doesn't feel this way at Konami. It's as if Hideo locks one studio for the gameplay and another for movie sequences from start to finish. Two buildings on opposing streets. Too bad he's always being showered with praise to probably notice these problems. They say that the cut-scenes were toned down in Peacewalker, but that isn't anywhere near the big budget game of MGS4. I hope someone took a red pen to his final draft.

ICO and SOC are awesome. Appreciate them! Cuddle them like your favorite pillow! Think fond of them like Terry Jacks "Seasons in the Sun". Maybe I over embellished.

Shadow of the Colossus is about filling in the gaps of narrative with your own imagination. The absence in the world, the "girl", whoever she is, is there for a reason. SOC's atmosphere is genuine because you are controlling the character in this emptiness. This is why IGN has it as the #1 All-time best PS2 game (ICO is at #5). Team ICO achieved a transcendent experience by using the unique tools of a console. You can't make those games a movie in the same way Space Odyssey 2001 would never work on a game console -- and either of them in a novel. They have to be experienced in their medium.

I remember fighting the bird colossi. "A Despair Filled Fairwell" was thundering through the speakers (did I mention I own the soundtrack?) as I leapt toward a flapping wing to stab. That was when I realized just how well thought SOC was. The game knew I wanted more than a big boss, and more than a narrative.

SOC shares the same emotion for me as FF10, which I played just as I entered high school as a freshmen. I could relate in several ways to Tidus, who was thrust into another world while my life adjusted to an entirely different tempo from Junior High. Maybe it's all about timing, then, because I don't think 10 would have worked for me now. Japan and SE are obsessed with adolescents, and the west with guns and gore (Uncharted & GOW), mature dark fantasies (Witcher) and depressing wars (almost everything FPS).

It's going to be a while before a game rocks me like either of them did.

Anyone else notice how fucked up that scarred guy's sense of humor is? I mean, he rewards the kid for being a traitor, and then he rubs it in with the song on that tape. The chorus of that song sings "here's to you and your triumph" when the kid just betrayed a friend. Talk about wrong time and place for those lyrics. I certainly wouldn't feel like I'd triumphed by betraying a friend.

Considering that plenty don't mind being yanked out of the story, that would be subjective. For all intends and purposes, the reason he never anted up that much with the narrative style is due out of tradition & the identification that it's a Solid game. Even if the next step of Metal Gear (reboot or something that takes place after the Guns of the Patriots incident) does the same traditional cut-scene technique, it could just because that's how they roll. Some don't mind the same, some like to evolve. Simple as that.

Besides, most don't even dare to attempt to create lengthy cut-scenes.

That snake pretty much HAS to be Big Boss considering...
They make mention of both Paz and Chico in the present tense, and referring to the end of Peacewalker by saying that Paz was found still alive.

It'll be interesting to see the differences between Old Boss-snake and Old Solid Snake. He certainly didn't seem nearly as brittle as Old Solid was.
You're right about the frail'n'brittle thing, but I think Solid has far better reasons for being like that. Big Boss became old naturally, his body slowly degrading, giving him enough time to get used to it. Solid's body, however, is degrading at an extreme rate, and he unfortunately doesn't have the time to get the experience and preparation as Big Boss would (which is why Big Boss would likely beat Solid in a fair fight). I mean, being 30 and growing to 60 in a few years will shock anyone.
