Go for a walk. I'm not kidding, I was in the exact same position as you a few months ago: just got for a massive, looooooong walk to anywhere and back and just concentrate on walking, don't think about anything else at all. You'll feel so much better afterwards when you collapse into bed too tired to do anything else, seriously.

Also, just talk about it with friends, both mutual and non-mutual friends - if other people can let her know how you're feeling and why then maybe it'll help things.

"Walking is man's best medicine." - Hippocrates (of the Oath fame).

Make a list of things you've always wanted to do but never took the time to

Doesn't have to be anything grand or difficult, it could just as well be playing through a game or something. I'll tell ya, it feels -really- good when you get that feeling of accomplishment.
I don't know what I want to do though, thats why I set up this thread because I want to find out new things to do

I like to watch other people`s misfortune in shows like x-factor and big brother.

Baking cookies helps too. Even if you just eat the raw dough. Doing physical stuff with your hands can really help to ease mental anguish.

But watching other people suffer, while eating freshly baked cookies with milk, really cheers me up to no end.

I play Fallout 3 and with my Gatling Laser, I obliterate everyone I don't like. It's actually really effective for me.

Nothing's sweeter when you're depressed then a nice new game, preferably a party game or a colorfull RPG, Kotor pretty much cheers me up when playing light side, or Mass effect.

or go watch some stupid cartoons to forget your troubles

Lately I've been feeling very down (due to girl troubles and exam result worries) and I am also bored of what I currently do to take my mind off things and I want to try something new so maybe it will take my mind off my troubles more effectively then what I currently do

So I am wondering if any fellow Escapist members have any activities, music, sites, films, games or anything that would be good at taking my mind off things.

EDIT: Also I do not want this thread to turn into a "my problems" thread so can we avoid discussion about that

Thanks in advance

EDIT V2: I play guitar, tuba and sing. I am not much of a writer and if it's add to the thread I am 17 and an atheist. If any more information is needed then you are creepy, I will happily give
I would say listen to music(preferably rock or 80's stuff) and have lots of coke and skittles oh and watch Batman the animated series(it won an emmy actualy)

That's why I'm heading to the IRC. I'll get people there to stroke my ego.

Ego stroking is nice.
You make great comments on this site, always a pleasure to read what you type, also your avatar is really cute!.

Yay, i'm helpful!.

Listen to 'let your love flow' by the bellamy brothers. That should do the trick!

they are like explosions of fizzy happy in your mouth.
ALso, you get penguin biscuits?, make a cup of tea, nibble two opposite corners of the penguin biscuit, and use it like a straw in the tea, once you feel the tea hitting your mouth shove the whole penguin biscuit in your mouth! AND FEEL THE EXPLOSION OF CHOCOLATE.

Puppies seem to make people happy, if only I could harness the happyness puppies store, then I could spray everyone with the happy I harvested from dog infants.

Don't get depressed in the first place.
That's how I stay so cheerful, I refuse to let anything get me down.

If that fails listening to music, reading, writing, drawing and talking to people.
And if any of that fails (it usually doesn't) I sit and think about why I'm down, think about it so much I get bored of it and I cheer up.

Personally, when I have thoughts that I don't like, I actually start talking to myself outloud about things I might enjoy, how I recently had fun with a friend, what I plan on doing tomorrow or anything else for that matter. Yes, I'm nuts. No not really. Try this, start counting backwards from 50 to 0 in your head silently, then at the same time, not alternating mind you, but at the same time as you're counting in your head, speak the alphabet. You'll find that you can't actually do both at the same time. I've found that I can force my mind to start thinking about other things with this method. it doesn't solve the problem, but sometimes all you need is to stop thinking about something that's bugging you for a time to come up with a solution from a fresh perspective.

I know that it isn't a long term fix, but it may allow some short term relief. (I know it seems stupidly simple but try it. If it doesn't work then you can call me a loon all you want. I promise I won't argue. ^_^)

Well different things work for different people. I imagine, being a musician, that you've tried just practising. That tends to work for me, or just listening to music can help. Particularly I like listening to classical or trance, if I need to think things through. Other effective anti depressant methods include exercise, movies, art. There are others, but I imagine most have already been mentioned.
