I'm so happy, but after months of being unemployed, and eating up our life savings, we finally get a chance to have our own shop!

My and my boyfriend just got into wellfare, and they have special rules for young people who want to start a business. We get one year, a 10.000? loan at just 1,5% interest rate and a whole year to start up and not pay back until 2015.

The store will be called "Flash Back" a vintage/retro toy store. Selling things from metal lunchboxes to star wars figurines to transformers and game memorabilia. There will also be a lounge-like corner for hanging out, having a drink, and play some games.
I can't believe the city believed in our idea!

It's time to DANCE! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

Though your merchandise is not my cup of tea, I'm totally digging that lounge. A local comic book shop had one of those and it was so much fun just to chill out with other nerds and play MTG or Pokemon.

Anyway, congrats and the best of luck to you two.

I always loved such shops, and I'd spend hours poring through the merch and learning about it from the owners of the shops! It's was nerd heaven!

Congrats!

Sounds like a really interesting welfare system, not sure if we have anything like that in the UK (anyone know?)...

Good luck to you both, I really respect people who actually follow through and pursue their dreams :)

Good to hear. Sounds like an excellent plan, too. If it isn't too far away I might drop by. Add some Gundam kits to your inventory and it's guaranteed. :D

I like toy stores, they generally have a cheerier atmosphere than the stores in my local area that exclusively provide video games.

Congratulations! That sounds really cool. I'm not sure what the market for some thing like that is in The Netherlands. But in certain cities here in The State, a store like that would do really well.

Good luck!

That's cool, I didn't know you could do that! (with the loans).
The poster above me said something about the Netherlands so I looked at your profile, where will it be located? Den Bosch or something? Tilburg?

Seems to be a bit hit and miss here. I know of a similar store in Utrecht that went bankrupt a few years back (which, to be fair, was dull and horribly expensive), but there are ones in Amsterdam and The Hague that seem to be doing okay, despite the economic crisis. The owner of the store in Amsterdam told me that location was key for him. He's outside of the city center proper, so the rent is manageable, but he's still within easy walking distance along a sizable road.

That sounds like a very interesting business plan! I have fond memories of a cafe/comic shop hybrid that I used to visit when I was at university, so I love to hear about more of them starting up.

Best of luck to you!

If I ever travel again to Netherlands (probably to Schiphol-Rijk) I would love to pay a visit to your store. :)
My best wishes for success for you.

Congratulations to you keniakittykat and [unnamed boyfriend] best of luck to you and a drink to new costumers and future sales.
Also, I'll repeat the thing said above. Market like your life depends on it. Because if you've started digging in to your life savings for foodmoney, it probably does :p make sure to get a website and maybe post it here to let the escapists have a look.
Apart from that, best of luck to the coming store.

Any chance for Escapist discount rate?

Kidding. But do consider it once it becomes a success.

Best of luck!

We'l be in Breda, a city in the Netherlands xD And I don't think we'd be making enough money in the first year to hire people. But the funny thing is that we decided on getting started on the store because we can't seem to find a job.
