Grace shook her head. "They did not care to find out if he was even capable of fighting before they drafted him. All they cared about was that he had two arms and two legs. They just needed men to fill their ranks. It is only by the grace of the gods that he turned out to be the magnificent warrior he was. And he was not promoted to Captain until a few years latter." she said.

"Have to admit, he sounds like a good soldier so far. So, what happened to him?"

Riou pauses and looks up towards the ceiling. "It wants... to form the Rune of Beginning." He replies with a little hesitation, then looks at Erica. "Feel like telling me your problem, now?"

 

[Chungus]

Erica hesitated to answer Riou's question. "...Maybe later." She said after some thought.
"So this Rune of Beginning... I take it it's bad news?"

Grace gave a deeper sigh. "After a time, he and his men were ambushed and captured by another land lord that was fighting with our land lord. My family tried to pay his bounty, but the caravan my mother, father, and I were traveling in was robbed...they were both killed and nearly all of our money was taken..." Grace said in an oddly calm manner, though she still had to pause every so often to compose herself.

"[sub]...You are quite good with that staff.[/sub]" Gerry said to Athena (I'm assuming she is still practicing).

Makoto was silent for a moment. "...You couldn't pay, could you?"

"I see..." Riou says, taking a step back, thinking. "Well, I will answer your question. True Runes are amoral. They are neither good nor bad. They just exist. They have purposes and will seek to fulfill them."

"...No. But I had enough money to hire a mercenary to help me track the bandits and get the money back...unfortunately...I was too late. My brother had already been executed..." Grace said

"[sub]Oh...Well...why not just get a different weapon?[/sub]" Gerry asked

"Because I couldn't... i wouldn't do what it wanted me to do..." Riou replies, a hint of determination and perhaps fear in his voice. "So, about my earlier question..."

"There are no other weapons. Besides, this one seems pretty good, despite the weight, which I am trying to adapt to." Athena said as she stopped to rest.

"...I'm sorry." Makoto gave Grace a hug, with her arms and her tail.

"...Thank you...but it is nothing to be sad about now. He is in a better place..." Grace said, trying to remain a bit distant as she barely returned Makoto's hug.

"[sub]...But Winter just made me these. Maybe she could make you something more useful.[/sub]" Gerry said as he showed Athena his new knifes.

 

[Chungus]

Erica sighs and takes a moment to prepare herself for what she was about to say, not wishing to go down the same road as before.
"Well guess what. I'm dying too... I'm afflicted by a curse of some sorts, or maybe a disease, I dunno..." She began, trying to sound like her usual cheery self, and failing badly.
"I've... got [sub]about two weeks... left to live..."[/sub]

"You're right. That's all anyone can hope for, right? I'm sure your brother is happy."

"...Yes...Now I can only hope to see him again someday..." Grace said as she hugged Makoto a little tighter and closed her eyes while resting her head on Makoto's shoulder.

 

[Saltyk]

"I see." Riou thinks for a minute. "What kind of curse or disease is it? Perhaps I could help... I won't make any promises, but it could work..."

"I'd rather not. I don't want to ask anyone here for any favors. And this weapon is fine. If there is any weapon I would want, it is my O-Part. But that won't be appearing out of nowhere." Athena said, sitting down, but looking at Gerry's knifes all the same. They were of rather good quality.

OoC: Personally, I avoid getting involved in fights that are between a person's own characters. I see no real point in them. 9 out of 10 times you can't accomplish anything in such fights. Which is why my characters almost never did anything in my boss battles (as well as a few other minor lesser concerns).
