Samus was quiet for a second. "...my apologies. I'm not used to talking to civilians. Perhaps when this is over, I can help you toughen up a bit?" she offered.

"Wa dah mean by that..?" Sophia slurred slightly as she fought the feeling of nodding off again. "I haven't gotten that soft since I got to college." Sophia limply protested, raising her hand to point at Samus, her eyes closed a minute as her hand then flopped back down to her side. "You're just saying that because I'm tired-" Sophia retorted back weakly as her stomach growled. "and hungry..!" She added.

Alain and Roland walked with the group.

?That went way better than I expected. I mean, I could have escaped jail if I needed to, but it's good that my reputation is intact.? Alain said to nobody in particular, but loud enough for anyone to hear, as if he thought people cared. ?Yeah, that did go good. Even if our 'Gunslinger' here wasn't able to help like he promised.?

[color=01A9DB]?This world does not respect Gunslingers. We are not to be hindered by the law. I suppose that is understandable if the order of Gunslingers has never been present here, but even so the law here is needlessly complex. This is normal to all of you??[/color] Roland said, only partially in response to Alain.

Code:
"Some food sounds good to me to right about now."
Vicky said to herself, realizing that the excruciating lengths of time that travel and court took were enough to make her hungry. Vicky pointed to Samus and said,
Code:
"You're buyin, Blue-Butt."
As she looked for a place to eat.

Code:
"I don't really deal with the law all that often, so not really."
She replied to Roland.

You say to Roland that trials where you are from are fairly easy, and supposedly entirely fair. You add that you're not sure you believe that last part.

After returning to the base, Sam went to retrieve his armour, putting it back on and attaching the sheathe to the hip again. After this, he returned to the jet-bike hangar with Elm. The vehicle repaired and refueled, Elm entered its designated slot and Sam moving onto the rider's seat.

While Elm began running through the process of opening a portal and setting the coordinates, it explained to Sam they were to move to Area 51, still believing it to be XCOM's headquarters. The goal, Elm explained, was to sign a treaty with XCOM that would at least continued operations on Earth-9. The situation explained and the portal prepared, Elm opened it, but activated the jet-bike's barrier before flying through it, having been told of probable hostilities upon arival. And indeed, the extradimensional activities weren't responded to positively, as a jeep with a Browning M2 mounted on it arived, the gunman aiming for the jet-bike.

Over a megaphone, Elm and Sam were warned to leave the premise imediately. While Elm complied, it didn't do so fast enough, flying the jet-bike backwards somewhat slowly while it tried to explain its and Sam's pressence. In the middle of Elm's explaination, the gunman opened fire, although fortunately for Elm and Sam, the bullets failed to breach the barrier. Being under express orders to not return fire, Elm opened a portal behind it, flying through.

After a flat remark from Sam regarding the soldier's lack of hospitality, he and Elm discussed what to do next, before long deciding on returning to Colorado to visit the bounty store Sam learned of. Through portal, the two returned to Twin Peak Mountain, finding the group gone. Expecting so much, the duo didn't pay this much mind, and began making their way to Cañon City.

[color=01A9DB]"Hmm. In Gilead, the accused would speak for themselves, as there weren't all the rules and formalities that require a lawyer. Both sides present thier case, and the judge would decide. There is no need to complicate the law further."[/color] Roland replied to Shara.

[color=01A9DB]"What idea would that be, Sophia?"[/color]

EMily went over to Shara, her head slightly hung down and her chest clenching. But it was her usual habit of doing so before admitting anything out of her honesty.

"Shara, I'd just like to let you know that I owe you an apology. And... also an explanation."

"Well, the law might be complex, but it's set up that way for a reason." Seras said to Roland, speaking from her experience as a cop. "Systems like what you described are easily corruptible. Judges get paid off or blackmailed by one side to get a favorable verdict. That's why we need juries. Sometimes people can't defend themselves as well as someone else could. That's why lawyers exist." she explained as best as she could.

[color=01A9DB]"I suppose there is some sense to that, but the system here is still strange to me. And I don't care enough to understand it better, as long as we are not hindered by the law again."[/color] Roland said to Seras.

You tell Roland that where you are from the judges are from a telepathic race called the Vell-os. They look in the minds of the accused and see the truth. You've heard rumours though, that those decisions might not always be true. You then look over at EMily with surprise and ask why it is she needs to apologise.

"Yeah, it is hard for someone outside the law to understand it. It probably won't be a problem." Seras replied to Roland.

"It's just that.... remember our conversation about Seras? I should've treated the situation a bit more morally. At the time I had hardly payed attention to the controversy surrounding Faro. So giving a good opinion about it wasn't really there to begin with. The other reason for my indifference is that my society treats criminals much differently than today's standards. Our technology allows us to study them thoroughly by telepathic agents. It lets us understand the criminal mentality to understand the 'why'. What were the non-criminal thoughts? What forced them to become this way? Those thoughts are used as critical evidence. They are helped in any way by the same agents like a psychologist would. And it's rubbed off on me. I suppose you could say it's more like a second chance to get to understand them better." She shrugged, sort of implying that she was, in fact, giving Seras a second chance. "You may not agree with this methodology, but it's helped us save a lot of people and learn from our criminals to dig deeper into the complex human mentality. Science is a self-correcting process after all. It's also a trust system based on evidence. In a sense, my friendship with Sophia is based around trust that has developed around the evidence of experiences around her. So when I saw the knight's memories of the many murders, it felt like I had to act in more ways than one. In a way trusting your guts is the same as trusting your head." She scrunched up with her arms. "I know you're a hard person to reach. I just hope you understand where I'm coming from. And I'm sorry."

You say, after mulling over what EMily just said for a moment, that she is forgiven. Leaning in, you quietly ask her to keep an eye on Seras, since you wont be around to do it yourself.

Previously
At one point during the day, Shara was called off to a debriefing. After explaining her actions over the last few days, she was told that XCOM appreciated her services, but would no longer be necessary. The Sworder has become a fairly high-profile vessel, which made it unsuitable for the objectives of XCOM. However, as a parting gift of good trust she was given access to the engineering bay. There, she modified her blaster, making it more powerful by a large margin, though it requires more reloads than before. She was also given a helmet made from the same materials as her vest, which she gratefully accepted.

As she was about to leave, she was asked about Seras. She said that she and Faro are both vampires, but confirmed that they had sustained themselves only on donated blood.

When dinner was served, there were two 1-litre blood packs along with the rest of the food.

"Thank you very much!" She said. She smiled brightly as if, in her head, a thousand different languages uttered their own versions of the phrase.
EMily whispered back:
"You can trust me on that."

Timeskip!
Several hours later the group was back at the XCOM base, where Dave's ship was being prepared for takeoff. There were significantly fewer guards around, but there will still some to keep an eye on the extradimensionals.

After entering the base, you ask Seras if the two of you could speak privately.

Seras looked at Shara with clear suspicion. "Why can't you just say what you want right now?" she asked with her arms crossed over her chest.
