Matilda nodded. "I need to stab someone with my sword, to show how safe it is. But I can only be sure it'll be safe if I do it on Sophia right now." she explained.

EMily had some variant of an expression that was akin to o_o; An odd mix of being flabbergasted and shocked while trying to contain herself.

"And.... under what circumstances is it safe? Why would it be safe?"

"As long as you're not evil, it's safe. Because of magic." Matilda replied.

"I think your reasons are just as important as your actions. I can double check, though." Matilda said, holding out her free hand towards Alain, without turning towards him.

"Heh, sure thing pal." The bartender said as he went to go and get Roland his stuff. Roland would see that the Bartender had a look to him that was hard to place, even with his old age wracking on the eyes, Roland could feel the steely cold stare of the man. "So what brings you here, other than this bug eyed dame I don't really get people packing walking in here." He said as she started pouring out some Graf.

Jinzi didn't seem to find that all that amusing by the wise crack, but didn't draw her guns. "[small]Fuckin' asshole, [sub]just lucky I'm in a good mood today and he's got good booze, [sub]or I'd [sub]something [sub]something...[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/small]"[sub][/sub] She muttered to herself before taking another sip of booze.

Once Sophia saw the Mason sister's expressions, she let out a sigh of relief. "Oh thank you, I was starting to think I might have fallen into another world where stabbing people with swords was something that just happened." Sophia seemed very relieved, rubbing her forehead with the back of her wrist.

"I seek the Dark Tower." Roland said before taking a drink of the apple cider that wasn't really cider but was never fully explained, then looked down at the table. "And I'm trying to forget some people I met along the way."
"You're... Waving at me? I already know where you are, so can you just test my morality or whatever now? I'm ready to answer whatever questions you have." Alain said as Matilda held her arm out towards him.

"You need to... touch me? So should I just grab you hand or let you grab my arm or... Yeah I'll just do that." Alain said, before reaching out and awkwardly putting his forearm up against Matilda's hand. If the mind reading thing actually worked this time, she would find that he was generally good and genuinely wanted to help people, but had his own personal motivations as well. She may also find that he felt guilty about two separate events in his past, but he had long since repressed those feelings and memories.

"Alright, the Dark Tower." The Barkeeper repeated, not knowing what Roland meant but shrugging it off. "And what would these people have to do with it, I might ask?" He asked, leaning a little on the counter, flicking the rag he had onto one of his shoulders.

Roland looked up, about to tell the bartender to mind his own business, but something about the man made Roland decide that he was more than just another citizen. As Roland would say, the bartender remembered the face of his father. "I was traveling with them. They became more than acquaintances or friends, but Ka-Tet. And now I have left, in order to protect them."

"Ah, so it's one of these. Well, listen. I might know my way around Spanish now, but Ka-Tet is not something I've heard before. Is that a word the younger crowd is using these days?" The bartender answered back, listening to Roland as he periodically looked around the bar to see if anyone else needed anything.

"This'll be safe for you. Are you sure you want to do it?" Matilda asked, lining the tip of the sword up with one of Alain's thighs.

"It is a word of the High Speech, used since the days of Arthur Eld." Roland explained. He then have a short, half-hearted chuckle. "Do I look like one of the 'younger crowd'?"
"Well I'm having second thoughts now that a friggin SWORD is pointed at me, but I can heal whatever wound it causes. So go ahead, I guess? [sub]Why did I volunteer for this?[/sub]"

Matilda calmly stabbed Alain in the leg, which, for him, would feel like he was being poked. After holding the blade in place for a moment, Matilda pulled it back, revealing a distinct lack of a wound. There would be a tear in Alain's clothes, however, where the blade had passed through.

Sophia squeamishly looked at the sword and then to Alain's thigh, her face stuck in a cringing pose. She was definitely suffer the problem of 'wanting to look away, but not being able to' right up until the point Matilda made her thrust, at which point she squeezed her eyes shut, clenched her fists, and bared her teeth as she braced for whatever outcome would happen.

"Compared to me, yes, you all look like part of the young crowd." The barkeeper wittily replied back, raising an eyebrow as he grinned himself. "But even if it was a word from Tony the Tiger and Captain Morgan, that still wouldn't help me understand what this Ka-Tet you are talking about is. Care to enlighten us on this word from this, Arthur Eld?"

Seras watched Matilda's display with intrest, but also some confusion. "Well...are you sure that will work with a gun as well? It still seems far to dangerous." she said with a frown.

"Yes, I'm sure. It'll be easier to do with bullets, since they're smaller.." Matilda replied as the sword slowly vanished, and her cane returned.

Alain looked away as Matilda stabbed him, cringing as he felt the poke even though it didn't hurt. After she was done, he looked down at his leg, expecting to be bleeding profusely. "Oh hey, that actually didn't hurt me." He said with obvious relief, before realizing that the sword left a hole in his pants. "Aww man... wait, if I wasn't hurt because I'm good, and my pants were cut, does that mean that my pants are evil?"
"It does not translate well into the low speech. The best I can describe Ka-Tet is as a group of people who hold the same quest, and are bound by Ka." Roland explained, before realizing that the bartender likely would not understand Ka either. "Fate."

EMily closed her eyes a bit, wanting to bite the bullet as she squinted. She relaxed a bit and opened her eyes as she saw it was over and there was no blood.

She made a short chuckle at Alain's comment about his pants being evil.
