Victoria would find the vine near a pipe at the side of the building, in a position that would make it difficult to spot if one were just walking by the building. Looking up, Vicky would see the vine went up the building, to a window on a higher floor.

Vicky, thankfully avoiding this issue, would herself looking in on an apartment. A quick look at the furniture would suggest that the owner was well-paid. The lack of anyone inside the living room, which Vicky was staring into, or any sounds coming from other parts of the apartment, suggested he lived alone, and had yet to arrive.
The fact that two group members were now climbing up the building, towards the apartment, made the police officers outside even more suspicious, though neither moved to intervene.

Samus jumped off the vine, aiming for the same window Vicky entered. She grabbed the ledge, then pulled herself up to look in the room.
As one of the police officers exited the car and approached the group, Vicky and Samus would see a man enter the apartment.
Samus would see nobody following the man.
Once the police officer got to the group, he looked up. "Can one of you explain what you're doing?" he asked, taking note of the vine going up the side of the building.

Vicky would have noticed nothing to indicate the window had been forced open. She also may recall seeing the vine almost break once it had to hold up Samus' weight.
