Yorick found the residents of the building on the top floor, their hands frozen to the ceiling. Their bodies were cut open in a variety of brutal ways. Some even had their lower bodies cut off, with the ankles frozen to the ceiling. Water was flowing out of the wounds instead of blood, more than Yorick would think was physically possible. As he approached the bodies, their heads slowly turned towards Yorick, staring at him with glassy eyes.
As Yorick walked around the floor, the heads and eyes of the residents followed him. The air was still cold, but Yorick would notice that it was slowly getting warmer.
Downstairs, the others would notice the temperature increasing, too.
"Okay then." She removed the glass. Since the wound was no longer being forced open, it sealed fast. "I'm glad to see you're okay. I'll stay here for a while." She smiled.
After a few moments EMily returned to concentrating on magnetic fields from electronics.
"Hey.... I feel something. There's an electromagnetic field coming from some electronics on the top floor."
Samus saw the corpses turning towards her, and walked by them slowly, activating her scan visor to determine where the electronic signal was coming from and just what these things were.
Samus would find that the bodies were human, though their blood had turned to seawater and something was keeping them alive. She would also locate the source of the signal, in a closet.
Samus moved past the bodies, noting the strange substance that kept them alive, before getting to the closet. Hearing a familiar hum, she opened it, and for a moment was shocked. Inside was a purple Chozo token.
Wondering how it got here, she reached out to it. As her hand grew near, the token vanished into purple light. sreaming into her suit. The suit gave of a golden glow for a few seconds, making it all but impossible to see. When it died down, the token was gone, and Samus' suit had taken on a purple hue, the lights switching from green to blue. She looked at the gauntlet of her suit, clenching her hand experimentally, before putting it down, satisfied.
After moving around the plains for a bit while eating grasses, the grub returned to the toppled tree, deciding to claim the nest as its own and stay in the surrounding area for the time being. Once there, it ate some of the sun dried leaves until it had eaten three times its own bodyweight again, where upon it was full.
Climbing the tree trunk, the grub tried to wriggled through the hole again, but found it had grown too large to fit. Clacking its mandibles in annoyance, then grub chewed at the opening to make it larger, spitting out the wood, and climbed inside once it made a large enough hole. Once inside the hollow compartment, the grub spun a cocoon around itself again, and rested inside.
After six minutes, the grub stirred in the cocoon, and ate its way out, emerging not as a grub, but an insect most resembling a cockroach, roughly 20cm in length. Its head, three mandibles and legs were a darker shade of green and brown respectively, with orange rings having appeared around its eyes, and its underside now being creme coloured. The insect had grown an exoskeleton, of which the plates on its back were coloured a light shade of russet, while coloured asperagus green in the middle. The olive green dots that had been on its side as a grub remained, although they were now located near the edges of the plates on its back.
While moving towards the exit of the hollow, moving rather slowly for a moment, the bug felt around with its newly grown antenna and palps that protruded from its head.
The metamorphosis having left it hungry again, the bug left its den in search of more food, daring to head a little further out now that it was not quite as vulnerable.
Samus looked at Yorick, then at the people hanging there. "Not yet. I scanned these people. Something is keeping them alive. I doubt this has a cure, but perhaps they can be examined and tested."
