Still tearing strips of flesh from the carp, Dromaeus went back to practicing his mental barrier. Moving on from his earlier exercises, he drew his sword and began running through various sets of maneuvres, practicing the tactics he would use on opponents of different abilities.

Mat had been wandering around for a time. It was amazingly easy to get lost in a city this size. Where were the others. "Dude," One kid said, "You're never going to believe all the crazies getting together in Central Park." Crazies? That had to be the right way to go then. Mat set off toward the park, fortunately it was nearby and didn't take much time to get to.
As he suspected, everyone was there. Joe was eating bacon. There was some sort of man in white robes. It looked like one of the whitecloaks. Though they probably weren't in this world, Mat wasn't going to take many chances. "So," He said, addressing the group in general, "What's going on?" At that moment, in the t.v. shop, a news team was interviewing some soldiers. "This is Maya Brone here reporting on the recent Pentagon assassinations. Shortly following the violent murder of the President and several of his secret service guards the Pentagon was attacked as well. Many of the military's highest ranking officials were killed in what appears to be nothing less than slaughter." The interviewer turned to a soldier next to her, "Now, sir, you claim you were here at the time of the attack?"
"Yes." He said simply, looking at the camera with thinly concealed disdain.
"And you also saw the assassin?"
"Yes."
"Can you describe him?"
"It was a young man. Tall, with brown hair. He wore a green coat, broad-brimmed black hat. I believe his name is Mat Cauthon." Suddenly a sketch of Mat filled the screen.
"If you have information regarding the whereabouts of this man, please contact law enforcement immediately."

The man next to Mat said something, but Mat wasn't paying attention. He was looking off into the distance. So much for going unnoticed. Someone was tracking him. It could be some of this world's darkfriends, it could be someone from his own world. Light help him if one of the Forsaken was trailing him.

Dromaeus finished his his swordplay and sheathed his blade. Tearing one last big mouthful from the carp, he tossed the carcass into the pool and went to find the rest of the team, who had gone to the perimeter of the park.
Thom had joined the group again. Eragon eyed him suspiciously. Not only was his mind undetectable but Eragon had been unable to scry him also. "Ah hello again Thom." He said. "I'm more and more fascinated by you every second. Not only is your mind undetectable but I have also been unable to scry you. It makes me wonder what sort of power you possess."
"I have no powers." Mat said, hoping that they didn't see the news report. "I simply have my luck and my skills." And a medallion that had gone cold again and shielded him from the powers of Eragon or anyone else. Things were not looking good, and if someone had come to track Mat down, then he might need to reveal himself to these people. Which could be worse.
