Ulquiorra replies "You have not the comprehension to understand yet I am not a fan of rushing conversation so I shall do my best. I must ask first if you genuinely want to know what it means to be 'Hollow'. I will not waste my breath otherwise."
"Hollows are the souls of humans that have not found the piece of Soul Society and so evolve into monters that prey upon the souls of humans. The hollow hole is where I, in my previous form was bound by and spirit chain which tore this hole in me, rendering me hollow and a monster. I however have gone thrugh many transformations since my hollowfication. Ascending to become a Menos Grande, a Vasto Lorde class, the strongest of the menos. Lord Aizen gave me even more power and a purpose when he turned me into this." He gestures lazily to himself. "I was made an Arrancar, a hollow with the powers of a soul reaper yet now I transend both. Lord Aizen even saw fit to make me Espada number 4." He pulls his white cloak back to reveal the number 4 tattooed onto his upper left chest. "To be hollow is to be forsaken from paradise and for theat we despise Soul Reapers."
Ulquiorra simply bows his head. "I serve Lord Aizen. That is my purpose. The nature of my existance is irrelevant."

Joe wakes up from the trip, he had hit his head on the way through the portal to Germany.

You said it yourself, if I let my emotions get the better of me while I'm using this thing then I'll likely start killing people...and I'd like to avoid that...as long as my allies are around." he said, trying to keep his voice level and even.

Royce scowled at the girl. Now he leaned in close to her and said, "No. I'm not going to use it. Come hell or high water." As he said the last part he started to walk off.
"If you need a sparing partner Royce, I can move both of us into the 2D realm. You can't kill me there, and you can train as much as you like!" Joe walks over to Royce and Charlotte.
