Coughing up blood and spit, Charlotte's body ached as she slowly regained consciousness. She was hanging upside down, a few feet above the ground. Her left leg caught intbetween some metal wiring and caved in structural materials from the building itself.
Thank god for the construction here Charlotte painfully though as she swung her upper body to her feet and sliced the rope with her sword. Falling down, she easily caught her ground, until her right knee bend awkwardly as she collapsed on the ground, shrieking in pain. The city echoed the same calling as Charlotte gripped her pistol.
Th-they're... they're coming!
Getting herself against some collapsed rubble, snd dashed directly into the horde, expertly flailing her sword around, cutting down zombie after zombie. And yet no noise came.
[hr]
Eric, Otis and Lorella clampered down to the ground floor of the building, helmets removed as well as their shielding mechanism was damaged. Open wounds of shrapnel and cuts covered their armor and faces, all from a strangely well-organized zombie SWAT team. It was as if they knew their thoughts, a mental link only shared between Vanguards and Wardens.
They continued to press on as they heard Charlotte's panicky screams from outside.
As the artificial skies above started a dawn rising, the Vanguards partially covered their eyes seeing the sun rise and Charlotte wildly flailing an nothing, her eyes wide open and tearful. Otis rushed closer to Charlotte as she continued to panic at the apparitions in her head, crossing closer, Otis felt his eyes and mind bend as he looked around and saw Charlotte cutting down zombie after zombie screaming
"GETAWAY, GETAWAY, GETAWAY, GETAWAY!!!"
Otis broke through the zombie crowd as he bear hugged Charlotte as her breathing was cut abruptly. Continuing her sobs, the world that once existed melted away to reveal Eric and Lorella cautiously looking at the buildings, weapons raised. Lorella however, had a look of distain on her face at Charlotte.
"Eric" Otis started. "Our armor is less or more defunct. Synchronization with the nervous ends are starting to reverse flow."
Eric abruptly let go of Charlotte as she collapsed to her knees and silently wept. Her body started shaking as she threw up to the side of her.
"Certainly this complicates things." Eric said as Lorella, jabbed a finger at him.
"Yeah, well no shit! Secondly, who the hell died and made you leader huh? We are all the same rank, working on the same mission."
"Because I am right." Eric said harshly. "I'm going to find the truth to this place."
"Sometimes truths are better left unknown." Otis decided to chim in. Eric simply rolled his eyes as he turned back to Charlotte and frowned. "Get up." he commanded. "Aren't you stronger than this? Get up."
Lorella walked over to Charlotte as did Otis. "She's got a broken leg. The Bioform isn't going to last forever. Plus, her powers are still in reverse flux."
Eric shrugged as he decided to walk away. Otis sped-walked over to Eric and forcibly turned him around. "That's all you got to say? I thought you two were..."
"No. We aren't." Eric growled and brushed past him. Otis scratched his head as he walked back to Charlotte and Lorella. Getting them both you, Charlotte's eyes had become two dull orbs of brown coloring. The two hoisted her up between their shoulders.
"So what exactly was that?" Lorella asked, returning back to her usual tone of voice.
"What? You or me talking with Eric?"
"... Both I suppose."
Otis sighed before saying. "I simply acted on instinct. Char is a teammate of ours and with her powers as a Conduit, they are dangerous, especially on themselves."
Lorella's eyes slanted slightly. "You should have let Eric do it."
"He was too slow." Otis said defensively. Lorella's eyes fired up again. "And that's one of your annoying quanlities."
Otis stopped and frowned at Lorella. "Annoying? You find me annoying?"
"Yes. Multiple times when you joke around."
"Hey, I'm just trying to relief some tension, nothing wrong with that." Lorella grunted as Otis sighed.
"Yeah, says Miss Automatron." Lorella punched Otis in the gut as his armor caved in alittle.
