Anik made a "Hui" in a higher-pitched voice than usual, as she was pulled onto the boat. She wondered about the music, but did not question it. Instead she listened. If she was supposed to dance, the Comet would need to lead her.

She dropped her bag on the boat, fumbling a bottle of vodka out.

"Well, the first recording devices had a needle attached to that very same drum I talked about. That needle would extend onto a rotating drum made of clay. As you would speak onto the drum, the needle would vibrate and it would etch this onto the drum. If you placed the needle back and the beginning and rotated the drum, you would hear the sound played back."

"The one that's playing here uses a disc with thousands of itty bitty magnets on it. The way the magnets are oriented is how the music is recorded."

As the group members approached and boarded the boat, they would find that it was quite long and fairly narrow. There was a deck at the front, with a few pairs of oars, and behind that a structure that would provide shelter. Inside, there was little other than some cupboards where supplies could be stored, with counter tops on top of them.

Robin started frantically writing down everything EMily said, hoping he would!D understand it someday, as he stepped onto the boat.

EMily stepped onto the boat, after saving her work on Photon. She looked around, her head darting.

"Where'd that cat go off to? I'd like to talk to him." She muttered.

Mochán hopped up onto the boat behind EMily, followed by Matilda. "Right here." he said.

"Can I borrow you for a moment? This might actually take a while. I've had some revisions to my original theory, and I want to see what you think. I'm asking you because you seemed to have the biggest reaction to my claims not too long ago."
I swear to god, if I don't get this out of my system, I'm going to blow.

She cleared her throat.
"First off, I'd just like to apologize for getting somewhat hot headed during our earlier argument. My frustration clouded my judgement and I couldn't remember essential facts that have been with me for a long time. I have been a scientist for almost the entirety of my life, and for that reason my philosophy is rigid. But, what people outside of science don't understand is that the methodology uses a lot of creativity and imagination. It's a very fluid knowledge base that is constantly re-correcting itself. That's one reason why I trust it so much. I didn't come off that way, and that was not my intention.

That said I do have an interesting hypothesis. In contrast to many members of our current group, I have been across a plethora of worlds both in my universe and from others. These other universes are from alternate timelines. In these universes there have been a number of instances where people from other universes will arrive as well from some unknown mechanism. Pretty much these people are an invasive species from other universes. But the question is, if these people are from other universes where the laws of nature might be different, how are they able to coexist in these other dimensions without repercussions? The hypothesis? The laws of nature from one universe that conflict are just not observed by the other universe.

And then that got me thinking about magic. In a closed universe, my idea of the unknown being magic would still hold true. Meaning that the laws were just not discovered yet. How could they be broken if one does not know all the laws to begin with? But lets step to a god's point of view. He knows all the mechanics of his universe, but lets say something else steps in. Something from another universe that behaves quite differently than how it would function in the host universe. This most certainly would break the local laws of nature for that universe because it does not observe them.

In short, magic in the traditional sense is essentially invasive energy from other universes. Which is why it might have been impossible to locate the source until now. However that still leaves the question, who or what is pulling people across these universes?"

"I've been a magic-user most of my life, which has been a very, very long time. So, I guess I'm a little set in my ways, too." Mochán replied, before sitting down and considering EMily's explanation. After a minute or so, he said, "So, you think that magic might be caused by something from outside the universe, coming into it, just like how we got here? Hmm... that's certainly a possibility. It would explain why magic can do things science can't explain, though I suppose that could also be a lack of knowledge of science, too..."

"Yes, that's correct." She said, nodding her head in confirmation of his understanding of her hypothesis.

"To fill you in, science at it's core is just a philosophy. Without the tools or resources necessary, you can't produce data. Its purpose is to examine the universe under repeatable testing to produce hard evidence and shatter ignorance. Whatever the data shows must be true until some other conflicting data shows otherwise. As long as the person conducting the experiment doesn't have any ulterior motives, the data is unbiased. Until now, we've been unable to go across universes. But now we're seeing direct confirmation of portals that lead to other universes."

Jane and Homer climb onto the boat.

"Oh come on, really?" Jane muttered as Emily and Mochan started their conversation again..

"So, magic, or other things like it, might just be unexplained because we don't have the tools to determine its cause?" Mochán replied, mostly talking to himself.

"Precisely that. Science, and its methodology is only limited by its resources. And many philosophers over thousands of years have discussed these limitations. Everything from physical tools to human imagination. Some people think that some laws are just unexplainable because a model to create those laws is just impossible for the human mind to conceive."
She paused.
"Terrifying stuff."

The Comet was glad to lead Anik into dancing. A couple of songs went by ranging from literal Swing music, to club jams. The Comet wouldn't seem to want to break out the booze just yet unless Anik suggested it... He had bad experiences with boats, and drunkness. If Anik did suggest drinking than he would take very light sips so as to not get too drunk on a boat... Especially one in a swamp. Swamps are well known to house all the horrible things in the universe. After a while, his IPod started playing a love song over it. The Comet smacked it against his hand "Piece of Junk! I told you to play my party mix! I'll change it in a second, baby... Well... Unless... You want to keep listening." He said looking up at Anik, with the light catching his eyes to make them appear to glimmer... Not that Anik could tell.

"Hey now, it's not arguing this time." EMily said, overhearing Jane, "It's a discussion. And besides, conflicting viewpoints makes for the most enriching of arguments. As long as it doesn't involve violence."
