"It depends on what their methodology is. If the sorcerers and alchemists want to examine the world, make a hypothesis, construct a repeatable test, gather clean data, compare their data against their hypothesis, and repeat the process, then they have the elements of a scientist. A scientist wishes to dispel ignorance of the world by testing it. And the tests must be repeatable under different people conducting the same experiment. They push aside their beliefs in favor of what the evidence shows. On my world, a mountain does not get higher through giants, titans, or gods upheaving earth. It's through tectonic plates moving against each other. And that is a verifiable and indisputable fact on my world that can be repeatedly tested time and again."
