"Really? It's not very obvious from a first glance!"

Kuki said, a little excited, but the tone of voice staying much the same. They didn't seem to notice Lambda's tone being off.

"Why did you choose to get augmented?"

they asked next. While speaking, an extra lens formed in Kuki's eyes again. This allowed them to see through Lambda's clothing and skin, into her inside. The upper four eyes were calibrated to see her muscular system, while the lower two were set to see her internal organs. With this, Kuki looked to see where and how many implants Lambda had, although they wouldn't be able to identify what the implants were. They would also see if Lambda's physiology was any different from a standard human's, implants aside.

"That's what we're heading back here for." Candace said to Tresh.

Lambda was human at her base, but Kuki's scan would reveal a bunch of cybernetic implants and genetic tweaks designed for survival and regeneration. She would heal faster, her bones were reinforced, and she was more resistant to radiation. There were implants throughout her body, though the most notable were a large one in her abdomen, four holes in her back, and a cybernetic right eye. The systems were deeply implanted and there was little if any sign of surgery. "I didn't chose." Lambda said quietly.

"Oh, I see"

, Kuki said as they continued analysing different parts of Lambda's physiology, getting increasingly more lenses in their eyes, as they scanned different things. Going by the absence of surgery, Kuki assumed Lambda had been grown around the augments, and so didn't sound very sympathetic in their response.

Once their curiosity was satisfied, Kuki stopped scanning, their eyes returning to normal.

"Umm. Would you object to donating some tissue samples?"

Kuki asked, hopefully, pulling themselves out of Anik's pocket slightly.

"It's non-invasive, and won't take long!"

"...tissue samples?" Lambda asked cautiously.

 

[Vakra jal]

Hopefully they were nearing the port now. The anticipation was killing him and frustrating him again

 

[Silence]

Anik nodded sympathetically to Lambda when she told she had no choice in getting augments, it reinforcing her belief that technology was nothing good.

 

[Kirke]

On the way to the port, Ella replied to Dalahar that she wouldn't make a very good soldier as she wasn't fond of killing. When they arrived, she headed over to the highest-ranking police officer and introduced herself. She then reported the smouldering man that the other group members had encountered, along with the description of his car that Shana had given her.

Candace followed Ella, listening to her accent.

The officer took note of the report Ella made, then stated he would try to find out who the car belonged to before there was another incident.

"That's right! For research purposes, I want to study different organisms. I'll only take small samples, and I can do it without implements of any sort"

, Kuki explained.

"How so?" Lambda asked.

 

[Vakra jal]

Dalahar was glad they had arrived, listening intently. He had several theories in mind, most just combat simulations to occupy his thoughts. At Ella talking about being a soldier he had nodded. People like her. There why he fought.
The aristocratic woman was silent also, Dalahar regarded her. The very thing that sparked the rebellion. Pompous and high borne bureaucrats distorting the imperium into something the astartes hadn't fought for.

Candace noticed Tresh looking at her. "What is it?"

 

[Vakra jal]

"Nothing" he said. "Old opinions not fit for here. Don't know your name" he said with a more positive tone.

"It's an ability my species has"

, Kuki answered.

"Here's a simple demonstration!"

Saying this, Kuki pulled themselves out of Anik's pocket more, until their chest was partially exposed, while steadying themselves with their hind legs.

From within a pouch, covered by the extra fuzz on Kuki's chest, came a long and thin fleshy tendril, a light grey in colour.

"We have these bodyparts, loosely translated, called the "cytoid appendages"."

The tendril started glowing a soft pink, after which Kuki moved it through their left foreleg, passing straight through.

"With them, we can interact with the body, which in the case of taking samples would be taking small bits out, while leaving everything it passes through, untouched!"

Kuki wriggled the end of the tendril, before pulling it back, showing no sign of a wound in the foreleg.

"When taking a bit out, the object would pass through other matter, as well. The only real limit to how small a part we can interact with this way is vision. And the appendage is self-sterilising, so no chance of infection!"

 

[Kirke]

"Good. Let me know if you find anything. Oh, and where is the autopsy handled? One of the extradimensionals have offered to help examine the corpse. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask." - Ella replied to the officer.

 

[Slenn]

Shana waited patiently by the others as the information was being delivered to the officer.

 

[Silence]

"But you can feel that, right?" Anik asked, now concerned that Kuki had taken a sample of her without her knowing.

 

[Chungus]

"It depends on what is done. If I just moved the cytoid appendage around, you wouldn't feel a thing, but taking something out might make you feel a sting, a pinch, or a cramp. Things like that"

, Kuki answered Anik, while the tendril stopped glowing, and retracted back into the chest fold.

"In the station just off Rue Notre-Dame O." the officer replied. "It's not too far north of here."
