Dalahar was silent for a minute. "No" he said finally "I wouldn't say so, that's the cost for protecting and expanding humanity"

"Being human is grossly overrated anyways." Anik chimed in, "Humans are weak, stupid, greedy, and all other negative attributes I can think of.

I'm just glad that the people on these worlds seem to not be just as bad as the ones where I come from. Probably because they think they wiped out all other sentient species, and therefore don't have a reason to try and kill them all the time."

Code:
"I understand!"
Kuki said on listening to Viyang's explanation.
Code:
"What you're describing sounds like a class 3 magic, or where power is produced without interaction with magic field. I'm not sure what you mean by elemental, though. You're not composed of more trace elements than other organisms, are you?"
Hearing the others talk, Kuki thought they hit the jackpot of research material, and had to restrain themselves to jump between topics like a rubber ball.

Candace looked between Tresh and Anik with horror and surprise. "I don't know about you but I value my humanity very highly."

"And what is it that makes your humanity any special?" Anik asked Candace.

"Humans are frail, easily broken. That's why i was made to protect them. I was made strong, fast, long livings do everything a normal human isn't. I was made to win the stars for them" he said, with a bit of venom in his tone of voice. and in the end it's those mortals sitting in council chambers deciding, like they won the Galaxy themselves, like we were a tools

"I ... did a similar thing once." Anik spoke to Tresh. "It certainly wasn't worth it for me.
At least you can tell you protected ..."

She turned towards Candace. "What do you mean by culture? Destroying nature? Yes, that's a thing humans can do." Anik gave a bitter laugh. "And you probably never met another speaking and thinking creature. Because then you would now that humans are basically only one step above 'stupid' animals, while so many are so much better."

"And your sacrifice is noted and appreciated, but I would prefer to stay how I am." Candace told Tresh. She was genuine about thanking him for protection. She looked back to Anik. "We do not destroy nature. We harness it, use it. No one would be so short-sighted as to strike a match in a forest and watch the trees burn for their own satisfaction."

"The emperors own words" Dalahar said with a shrug. "I'm not exactly open minded. Back in the Legiones it was a simple formula. Find a planet, was the planet inhabited? By humans? If so reach out as lost brothers, if they refused we would burn their world and force them into compliance or even extinction of they refused to be beaten. Then we have another world to turn to production, recruitment. In the old days we'd build churches and cathedrals so that nobody forgot who the master of mankind was" he delivered this all
With a very flat tone, made even more machine like due to the rasp and crackle of his vox grill "with anything non-human you just remove the negotiation step. Don't accept their surrenders, drive them of or kill them all"

Anik laughed to Candace. "You don't know many people. The ones who would do something like that, they are also the ones most likely to be in power."

She listened to Dalahar. "... case in point." she said. "And you, Candace, you should be more humble. You can't stay in power forever. You will fall from your high horse, and maybe never get back up."

Candace was about to say something, but the comment about falling from power struck a nerve. She closed her mouth, shrinking back slightly.

"We couldn't care about the damage, we had an empire to build, a species to unite" he said "I was so fanatical, like many of us word bearers." He was struggling to find a way to describe his gene-flaw in short hand. "We.......believe intensely, a flaw in our gene seed, what makes us an astartes. To a cause which we believe we are unshakable, incorruptible, unstoppable. Word Bearers will march into your guns, even if there is a chance to bypass them. We'd March straight into your lines, just to prove a point, that our belief was the only belief. That all others was false."

He continued "we did truly believe in the word of the emperor, so clearly a god as Lorgar had said. Only the truly divine deny their divinity." He sighed "that brings us to the other flaw. Without a cause we become dejected,'distanced.....betrayed"

Seeing tempers were starting to rise who spoke quickly. "Candace, know your audience before you speak of such things" he turned his attention to Anik "and you. Your anger does nothing to solve anything."

"So you need to find someone or something to pledge to?" Candace asked, wondering if she could get a superpowered butler.

Anik could feel she hit a nerve. She was glad about it. Even without reading hearts, she still knew how to do it.
But she also felt sympathy for Candace. She was this naive, she would have to learn a lot, still.

"Fanatics are the worst." Anik said to Dalahar. "Believing you are right is so dangerous ... and it's one of the most easy things to manipulate. Take a cause, argue how good it is, how righteous, and let people believe in you, and they will take arms ... even if your cause is the opposite of what you state it is.

I hope you can set yourself free from all that, like I have set myself free."

"Time does that to you" he said to Anik. "You move on, or it destroys you"
He then chuckled "Fanatical is the watchword of the word bearers. Faith defines existence, that's what separates man and beast." His mood was lightened by the fact that he had for away from it all. "You'll be pleased to know I've moved beyond the mania of my legion, I hope so"
He then answered Candace "in the simplest manner yes, that's about right "

While listening to their companions argue, Kuki thought on how humans didn't seem to be anything special, but didn't know enough about how they lived to make an informed comment, thus said nothing. When Dalahar spoke, however, Kuki's eyes twitched, momentarily breaking their scanning of Viyang.

Keeping their eyes as standard, Kuki looked towards Dalahar, upset.
Code:
"That's a good way to make a lot of enemies. And one day, all those enemies decide that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". And then, this path of conquest will backfire."
Even now, while mighty displeased, Kuki's projected voice didn't go much beyond a neutral tone.

"Unless you kill all of them, Kuki ..." Anik stated sadly.
