I think we've all heard this at one time or another. And I'm pretty sure we're gonna tell our kids/next generation that as well.

Tempted to say kids are just 10 times more easily stressed due to having less of the other first world problems...

But seriously, kids can grow up at their leisure these days. 30 year old's still living with mum and dad isn't that uncommon these days... Housing crisis not unaccounted for.
Well, if you want to talk about housing situations and moving out... Back in the day families just lived in the same house. Men never moved out their parents house. When women got married they moved to their husbands house which wasnt really their husbands house... Ya know. Etc etc.

30 year olds living with mom and dad was much more common 30 or 50 years ago than it is now, or at least I suspect its that way.
More common for different reasons perhaps. My comment was more based on the fact that many twenty/thirty somethings choose to stay at home rather than go out and grow up/fly the nest because they can't hold down a relationship or a better job...Or is that just me? *feelsbadman*

haha, I had a similar thing happen at supper tonight.

So my parents have this YTV Party mix CD in. And then suddenly the pokemon theme song kicks in (it's the before last song). So as I go on a nostalgia trip, my brother says how pokemon has become popular again.

My mom was kinda surprised, and asked why. I mentioned that a lot of the older fans (including a few friends, who I named) have gotten drawn back to it, now that the games have a lot more strategy involved. And she said "...these people are 24! What the heck are they doing being so serious about POKEMON?! I mean, when your father and I were 24, we were planning our WEDDING! And house! And mortgage!".

......To which I replied "Hey, if they're having fun, what the heck does it matter how old they are, and what they're playing?". To which I got something like "But nobody is MATURE anymore at 24! That's terrible! I mean, they're grown men!"

>_> It's ridiculous to blame lack of maturity on games. Games don't make you immature. They help keep the inner child in you alive and not a casualty of the dull, hateful world. That's not immaturity.

Actually, when my Mom saw what I was doing for University, she said something more along the lines of "WOW."

However, when it comes to day-to-day life, she tells me a lot that my Dad worked ten hours a day on the farm. She doesn't say that much anymore now that I'm balancing a ton of work, chores and fitness.

It probably was harder for them, and since they only use that line to tell me to stop whining, I don't really mind. I mean, I do like whining, but they have a point.

Its always amusing to hear people say that to a child, since its already been proven roughly 5000 times now that school is 10 times as stressful nowadays.
What if my parents grew up in Cultural Revolution era China, and had to take care of themselves because their parents were sent to be reeducated in the countryside? :p

"You ONLY studied for 5 hours for ONE test. I had to memorize the entire textbook, and they were twice as thick back then!"
And yet they still don't know any better, must be all the irrelevant filler that clogged their books, the whole point of evolution is to cut the crap to save time and effort

... they didn't even mention whether they passed xD

Captcha: describe "at&t" with any words - "crap"
Funny part is, some talk about how they failed a highschool subject, all happy and laughing and funny, but if you get a bad mark sometime, then you are satan himself.

With all the advantages that kids have today (the internet, social media, video chatting, etc.), there is absolutely no reason that these kids can get any lower than a C in any subject in school (speaking in terms of the K-12 system).
I completely agree. Problem is, some, including my parents, are one of those "If you get lower then an A+ you won't get anywhere in life, and plus, don't be so proud of your marks because your school is shit" type.

I was gonna say, I think it's going to become more and more common. Our parents could well be the last generation that moving out so soon was expected of them. For quite a while atleast.

The way things look in the UK at the minute, I think 20 years from now we might be looking at a country of landlords and tenants again.

The expected out of the parents house by 20 is looking more and more infeasible with the cost of living and average wages being the way they are.

I'm looking at moving out in a few months and I really don't know how I'm going to afford it. Even with the idea of flat sharing. It's just so damn expensive at the minutes and jobs may aswell be gold dust.
Basically yeah. It's hard enough for anyone over the age of 18 on minimum wage but being a freshly qualified graduate in 4 years time is going to be utterly ballbreaking.

Yeah, it was harder back in the day.

Heck, I'm 40 (almost) and it sucked when I was younger. Card catalogues, no internet...having to type everything on a typewriter...with all the hand correction that entailed. Bah! I am loving life nowadays doing research in the modern world. I love my computer!

Also iPad! and Cell phones! and my Xbox 360!
Also loving? Flat screen HDTVs...TVs back in the day were not exciting. What else is exciting? DVRs!

Technology has come a long, long way.

But it is more than that. My mother had to drink at a colored water fountain...because when my mom was a kid the US still had Jim Crow segregation. I'm glad I don't have to sit in the back of the bus, that I can vote without worrying about the KKK stopping me. I'm glad for the women's movement that have done so much to make my sister's life better than my mothers. I'm glad for the advances in LGBT rights, so whereas I had to fear incarceration while I was in the army for my sexuality other people no longer have to. Heck, I'm glad that sodomy is no longer illegal. I'm glad that as a trans person I have better medical opportunities and legal rights (even if they aren't complete and only in a couple states) than I would have 30 years ago.

Yeah. Life is way better now than it was before.
Life was harder then.

Unless you were rich. Rich people have an easy life regardless of the time period.

You think YOU have it bad? Well, back in my day, we didn't have youtube just lying around to find relevant videos, we had to make 'em ourselves, in the middle of winter... back when snow fell a foot a minute and was made of a fine mixture of water and acid!
