Serious part now. There is a difference between starting a new thread when there are several on the same topic recently, recently be the key word, or even currently and posting a comment in a thread where the last post is 2 years old. 2 years is enough time for new people to show up, old people to leave, and current people to have new or different thoughts on a subject.
Then necroing posts usually (from what I've seen) aren't coming up with an idea, but responding to the long dead original idea.
Threads that get necro'd also generally are no longer in people's minds. Unknowingly reading an old thread only to find out you've already participated in the conversation is pretty annoying.
Short version: I don't think it's hypocritical to be against both repeat and necro'd threads, we just need some sort of suggested guideline for when it's been too long/long enough and how to handle restarting an old topic, even if "don't" is the answer to that.

This. Create a new thread for a topic that's been done to death and you'll get image macros and calls to use the Search bar, you noob. Necro a thread to avoid having to create one, and you get called at for necroposting.Matthew94 said:

In all seriousness, after a period of time (3-5 months), I think threads should either be locked or deleted. No one likes talking on a dead thread, and new people show up with new opinions, they should be able to create a new thread without everyone ZOMG SEARCH BEFORE YOU POST! But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Well, I don't even find necro'd threads all that annoying. I'm usually oblivious to them as it's the content, not that date I pay attention to first.
