I suppose, the Dutch, Belgian, Polish, Hungarian, Austrian ect., even the british without USA bought supplies would have fallen. Are all these countries surrender monkeys. Hell even the Germans are 'surrender monkeys' they started two world wars and were brought on their knees twice.
The French lost because they together with the rest of Europe were hardly prepared for Blitzkrieg warfare and had their armies prepared for a Trench war.

This entire, 'the French are cowards' things is only because the French government decided that invading Iraq around the UN would be a bad idea.

The surrender thing is just a joke and you would be a bit dim to take it too seriously. They basically established Western Europe world with their military might.

Then the Austrians lost WW2? Germany never lost at all? Man, I'm relieved.
Good point.

Also, just selling short the achievements of all those French soldiers who died in all of those wars by saying "Victory is the commander's" is bullshit. At that point, you're just looking for an excuse not to give the French credit due to your bigotry.

But he wasn't French.

But guess who still won the 100 year war? Thats right the British:)
No they didn't. The Hundred Years' War resulted in a complete expulsion of the British from France.

What did they do in World War 1?
(Surrender)
No they didn't. France was the single largest contributor to the winning Allies in the Frist World War.

The idea that the France always loses is just utter rubbish, constantly spewed in the anglophone world where the French generally aren't well liked. France was for most of its history the most powerful country in Europe. And the statistics are pretty good too, they've fought in more European wars than any other country and they've won more than twice as many major battles as they've lost.
See your problem here is you are using facts, rather than just mindlessly bashing a country for no good reason. The hate for the French has always puzzled me too, they have a fairly good war record really and where far from the only country to be defeated by Germany in WW2, though the free French did keep on fighting even taking one of the beaches on D-Day. It is just a meme that has got out of hand I guess.

Though being unable to tell WW1 from WW2 is rather funny in a sad way when you think about it.

Forgive me for thinking that an entire nation is snobbish and full of itself when all the people i've met from that country are snobbish and full of themselves. Whatever gave me that idea?
Well, let's just say that most British we met gave us a Hitler greeting, that doesn't mean I despise the entire nation for being assholes, though.

I'm German and live in Alberta, so I don't exactly like the French. At all.
I live in Britain, neither do we.

I'm not sure why I think it's to do with WW1/WW2.
Actually, it was the English, the Gaelics weren't directly involved in that toss (except maybe the Irish).

How is that cowardly?
Nobody calls the 300 Spartans cowards, they lost, too.
The 300 Spartans weren't French. That is the deciding factor in this, the French suck. Their attidtude sucks, their military sucks. Why does their military suck, because its comprised of FRENCH PEOPLE. They've lost nearly every war they've been in. They didn't suck when a fat, annoying, one armed bandit with a God complex led them though. They do have Napoleon, but he won all the fights- except the one that mattered.

My apologies, but the French are my favourite punching bag,

The same tactic was used by the Romans, too. How does that diminish their military genius?

To be honest, anyone who has ever seriously thought the French cowardly doesn't know their history very well. They've taken a lot of shit in the wars they've fought and kept on kicking (look up the Battle of Verdun).

And to be honest, we Brits and Yanks haven't had a country invade us for a good long while. You really think British people would have held out much longer if they had been in place of the French during WW2? Last time I checked, the BEF was outclassed along with the Frenchies. And then they went to set up one of the most extravagant resistance movements in history.

Or back in the medieval period. It was us English (learning from the Welsh) that switched to cowardly stand-offish tactics to win our wars against the French (longbow), whose knights were regarded as the finest warriors in western Europe, and even then we ultimately failed to overcome them.

Actually, IT WAS THE FRENCH. [link]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hundred_Years_War[/link] By the end of the war, England had lost significant territories it held in France; where once the English king had ruled more of France than the French, he then only controlled a single town: Calais. And the Scots were pretty heavily involved diplomatically - doing what they do best, making grumbling noises north of the border and tying down resources (Henry V had to leave a quarter of his army in Northumbria when he left to invade France).

Military genius is relative.

You know...
I really don't hate the French...
They're just too easy to make fun of.

Some people need to go read a fucken text book before they open their mouths. If you don't know what you're talking about, stop talking
I will open my textbook!

From Chappter 6: (regarding the King Williams War in 1702-1713) "Peace terms, signed at Utrecht in 1712, revealed how badly France and its Spanish ally had been beaten."

Regarding King George's War (1739): "Once again, France allied itself with Spain. And once again, a rustic force of New Englanders invaded New France. With help form a British fleet and with a good deal of luck, the raw and sometimes drunken recruits captured the reputedly impregnable French fortress of Louisbourg."

Just the two I know the pages for.
What does that have to do with the HUNDRED YEARS' WAR. The one we were discussing? It took place 300 years before what you're talking about.
