It's always sort of disheartening when a stealth focused game drops a pile of guns and cool powers on your lap, then does its best to encourage not using them, and indeed I rarely do. Deus Ex: HR and Dishonored are two games that immediately spring to mind, as does MGS4, a game in which you carry an entire armory of weapons with you at all times.

I've been playing through some of these games again, but this time taking the guns blazing approach, and it's often as hilarious as it is cathartic.

Sniper Rifles, doesn't matter the game I just don't use them. I have always avoided them so I never got somewhat decent with them so now I assume I would suck.

Generally speaking, if it comes under "Item" and isn't specifically for healing, I tend not to use it.

Not because I don't think it'd be useful, just because I either forget I have it, or I really want to save it "just in case".

I was playing Knights of the Old Republic the other week (dug up and dusted off the old Xbox, I also had quite the BF2 session), and having got to the final boss fight with Malak, I noted that I had an inventory full of Stims. I went from being a good, clean-living dark lord of the Sith to a roided-up boss-munching dark lord of the Sith very, very quickly.
