So, looking over the new screenshots for Skyrim (the ones with the Orc and the Khajiit), I've been really wondering, what are they going to do with the weapons this time around?

I've got a feeling that they're really going to go native with the styling again, just like Oblivion and Morrowind, but at the same time I'm more wondering what types of weapons will they have this time?

I would personally like to see weapons from each race, as well as types like Steel and Glass. So being able to have an Orcish sword and a high elf staff in one little combo would be fun.

So what do you guys think?

I'd like enchantments on weapon/armor to be more visually appealing. Rather then just a feint aura.

I want my longsword of fire to actually be ON FIRE.

As long as I'm able to get the Ebony Blade at some point, I'll be happy.

Though I would definitely like to see variety in the staffs - more wood types maybe to indicate potency, or even just for aesthetics. Metal staffs would be cool too.

More armour types that are on an equal level with each other - who's going to pick steel when glass is available? Why not have steel and another type of equal strength, but with different pros and cons. So actual decision-making would be involved.
That goes for weapons also I guess.

I want Morrowind style weapons, like, daedric katanas and no dwemer longswords, i want it to be like morrowind where every weapon materiel has its own set of weapons instead of a standardized set for all!

That would be excellent. I would personally love to see an evolution in your weapons and armor as they're used. So a brand new set of steel plated armor would be spotless, but as you use it and it becomes more worn it gets scratches and dents in it. Even when you repair it, the scratches won't disappear, they'll just fade a bit.

I'd like to see race-based weapons too, as well as some more types (materials) for weapons. I'd also like to see them bring back spears, and add more weapons types like pikes, tonfas, nunchaku, and staves.

I would be extremely happy if Skyrim ends up being "Morrowind with better graphics, gameplay and voice acting".

Oblivion had a pretty bad variety of weapons and armour compared to Morrowind.

I also hope they make Daedric armour (if they include it) more like it was in Morrowind than Oblivion where you could find random marauders wearing the so called "most powerful heavy armour" in the game. In Morrowind there was onlt like one set of daedric armour and it was scaterred everywhere. There were some characters hwo wore it but they were pretty tough nuts to crack.

But that just looked so stupid in Dragon Age...

The aura wasn't great though. Morrowind let you launch a fireball out the end of your sword. That work for you?

I don't really care, as long as daggers aren't ass like in Morrowind and Oblivion.

this.

i think that games that say you've upgraded a weapon and show it are infinitely better than anythink bioshock weapons come to mind with the visually upgrading weapons, when i create and craft a new weapon in oblivion i felt a little sad they unless it was a special weapon i would just have to imagine it looked different. made me sad but would of been a bit hard to program for all the combinations i suppose.
i want things i do to make visual changes thats all.

also i think that there should be many different metal's on different levels. like 3 different metals with different visual styles from different areas with the same kind of power level. gives us some variety. like in oblivion once you reached daedric it was all the same kind of weapon. blergh

This would be acceptable.

Who cares about the dragons? I just want to run around beating the crap out of bandits and wolves with them.

Also, the could have it so better ones with blades on them or something. I just like tonfas...

Don't judge me!

daggers got 6x stealth kill damage. they were assassin weapons, and pretty damn good at it too.

Ahh, nothing like the steampunk death machine that was the fully upgraded thompson-in-all-but-name in Bioshock.

I'd like to see variety too. It helps me with immersion. This is a world without mass production, so armors of the same level should look different and maybe have different stats for a different playstyle.

I think it would be fun using a tonfa. it would make killing a dragon with one make you feel even more epic. Plus I could go all Sun Ce on everyone's ass if they let us dual wield them.

Longswords had the same, iirc. With longer reach, too.

Never stealthed in Morrowind, though, due to how horrid it was.

I'd like to see the ability to craft weapons and armour, which I think was partially implimented in one of Morrowind's expansions but not entirely? Not sure, never played them.

If they also added an (optional, of course) 'hardcore' mode where you needed to eat, this would make for some fun times hunting beasties in the wilderness for food and materials.

I'd also like to see a 'tiger-claw' style weapon that could use the martial arts skill. Actually, more martial arts weapons in general would be good, though there would need to be a bonus, or ability or... something that also made bare hands a viable option.

I just want a god damn crossbow. Spears and pikes would be nice too.

What I really think Skyrim needs is more options for armor, I don't want to be forced to have a specific look because the armor I just found is technically better than the armor I currently have.

Also this. I felt like the bandits would laugh at me if I tried to use my dagger in battle. ;_;
