I'd like enchantments on weapon/armor to be more visually appealing. Rather then just a feint aura.

I want my longsword of fire to actually be ON FIRE.
I believe it was two weeks ago that Bob mentioned a Rainbow-Fire sword in his movie review. My first reaction was:"I so want one of those." It could be a variation on a sword of fire, but indeed wouldn't work unless they're actually on fire.

If they also added an (optional, of course) 'hardcore' mode where you needed to eat, this would make for some fun times hunting beasties in the wilderness for food and materials.
I would try this. I've often thought it would make Oblivion a little more interesting and actually make a lot of the food and the concept of sleep have an actual point.

Also this. I felt like the bandits would laugh at me if I tried to use my dagger in battle. ;_;
I always laughed at the bandits who fought me with a dagger while I had full glass armor, a daedric longsword, and ebony shield. It wasn't absolutely unfair for them, especially since my shield had an enchantment that reflected 35% damage back at attackers. 1/2 the time I can just stand around and let people hit themselves to death.

But that just looked so stupid in Dragon Age...

The aura wasn't great though. Morrowind let you launch a fireball out the end of your sword. That work for you?

I don't really care, as long as daggers aren't ass like in Morrowind and Oblivion.
daggers got 6x stealth kill damage. they were assassin weapons, and pretty damn good at it too.
Longswords had the same, iirc. With longer reach, too.

Never stealthed in Morrowind, though, due to how horrid it was.
i only got 2x stealth damage with longswords, and 3x with shortswords. and if you stealth right, reach isnt a problem. what i want is for a bow and arrow mechanic that doesnt suck bawls. and spears back.maybe some more exotic weapons, possibly katana wakizashi tanto for longsword shortsword dagger. i still think they should have gone all out with the blades and added the other two, instead of claymore and longsword. AND KUKRI! KUKRI ARE BADASS!
did you have a mod installed that made dagger do more for stealth?

And I like the reach for when I'm caught.
no mod, but my character was a custom class with high stealth, blade, bow, and destruction magic skills. and the spears were efficent for taking out weaker enemies, such as a large grouping of wolves. one hit dead, move along. i only used my sword for fighting one on one with high level enemies and other warriors. i also hope they bring in tanto and wakizashi, and make dual wielding possible even if its only with an offhand dagger. i'm a very offensive player and i dont take to this shield bullshit very well.
I should also mention Longswords had higher base damage stats, so daggers were inferior in all ways but attack speed.

And dual wielding is confirmed. For anything but 2H weapons.
really? friggin sweet. i think if they had 6x damage for stealth naturally, then that validates their existence. i'm cracking open oblivion, i'll tell you whats up with stealth crits. 6x on 10 is much better than 2x on 20, so it might be that they were designed solely to be weapons for assassinations, to quickly be replaced by your DUAL WIELDING MOTHERFUCKING KUKRI LIKE THAT ONE SCENE IN THAT ONE RESIDENT EVIL MOVIE THAT DIDNT SUCK, WHICH IS ODD WHEN COMPARED TO OTHER SCENES FROM THE SAME MOVIE!
CONFIRMATION!

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Sneak#Sneak_Attacks

Longswords rule, daggers drool, basically.

Longswords totally get 6x.
i tip my hat to you sir, your idea was much better than mine. though i do not wear hats, as i am the main character, and main characters do not wear head gear. either way, it might only be 6x with higher stealth, because i know i just got 2x from my sword and 6x from my dagger. in which case daggers are okay for a short amount of time, but as a rule stealthy people are smarter and more dashing than warriors. alright, got it.
The only 2x is actually for Bows, pre-25 Sneak. Swords and daggers share the same stealth damage. x4 with Sneak below 25. x6 when above.
huh. then why even fucking have anything but longswords? attack speed is only marginal in the long run, and you still get to do the same damage overall. weird. either way, i was wondering, the fucks up with the elven blades? i know this is off topic but my character has an elven longsword and it looks like it should be made by dwarves. i mean, its like 4 inches across. then the shortsword looks like a scimitar with the point on the back and slim blade. weird

Which brings us back to my original point...Make daggers not suck, Bethesda.
Stealth sneaky daggers... either that or a combat system similar to Mount & Blade (warband or whatever).

Do like Dark Messiah of M&M did. Daggers and bows are the only stealth weapons.

good idea !
And let me kick people into fires and environmental hazards, too! And make them slip on ice spells aimed at the floor. And let me impale them for OHKOs when they're down on the ground.

Damn. DMM&M had some fucking ace combat.

Can we have gauntlets as weapons now? I use ma hands so....yeah......
metal gauntlets with pointy knifes or nails like in Conan the Barbarian, when he was fighting as a gladiator...

Something like this:
why not adding some fatalities while at it...

Enchanted blades. An enchanted dagger delivers the enchantment at a much faster rate than a longsword, and actually has significantly higher DPS.

daggers still technically blow. a lot. my akaviri katana with sigil stone lightning enchantment kills everything. at once. i'm honestly barely trying anymore.

I will be such a happy camper if we have spears and halberd again.

I honestly had a hard time getting into Oblivion because of the "Everything is a sword" style. Even the blunt weapons were swung around like a sword.

I don't really like magic much in any game, and TES are even more magic-shunned because of, imo, a not particularly compelling magic control system. But if a game has in-depth melee and ranged weapons, it more than makes up for it.

Speaking of ranged, if there aren't thrown weapons, I will be severely disappointed. What's more Nordic than throwing axes?!

RE: Fire swords:

I want a game to use uhh... whats it called... volumetric effects? The heat effects you see in games like Shogun 2 for fire. Anyway, I think the sword should just sort of Ooze that, like it's heated metal, then only actually flame when swung. That would be my #1 way to portray a fire weapon in my book.

Bring back that ice mace (Stalhrim?) from Bloodmoon but as a weapon type, it would be fitting given the circumstances although I have no idea what bonus or effect would be appropriate.

While we're on weapons, why are axes categorized as BLUNT? Ever used a blunt axe? Doesn't chop wood!... I mean, I know it was either that or blade (and it's technically not a blade), but really!

Axes are technically blunt. They aren't "sharpened", per se, they're honed to a wedge shape. Axes only stop chopping wood when the end gets rounded.
