^ Agreed, and is it sad that I actually have a pair of those floating around my apartment...? Except that they have the leather like in the Riddick film...
Out of curiosity, what are those things called?

Fists. Seriously, give me more hand-to-hand fighting in games!
This is a joke, right?
Why would it be?
10 of the top of my head:

Virtua Fighter
Blaz Blue
King of Fighters
WWF games (If I actually named all of them, I'd be here all day)
UFC games
EA's MMA
STREET FIGHTER
Teken
All of the DragonBall Games
Kung Fu

It is not seldom used at all; in fact, it is quite popular.
Well if you wanna be technical, and disregard the majority of those as 1v1 fighting games. There are very few games that are like, for a lack of better example, enter the matrix where you felt like a Kung Fu God (till the agents showed up) that play from the 3rd person perspective.
Fighting games are still games. Therefore, hand to hand fighting is in games. That is what this thread is about.

EDIT:

Assassin's Creed
Mirror's Edge
Condemned 1 and 2
Mortal Kombat Armageddon
just about any arcade, side-scrolling fighter (including the Simpsons and Xmen)
Diablo 3
Final Fantasy 1, 2...
HEY WAIT, COME TO THINK OF IT, THE MONK CLASS OF EVERY RPG.

I agree that unarmed combat is awesome but my point is that many, MANY games have unarmed combat.

Whatever that mutant thing is it looks pretty cool.

Also it would be interesting to see traditional weapons such as tonfa or the small kama sythes, which could both be used as a dual weild weapon.

Oh and arnis (I think that's how its spelt)as I don't think I've ever seen one in a video game.

They're ulaks. The ones that I have, most similar to the ones in the movie, are most commonly referred to as Saber Claws, rather than ulaks.

Honestly? Magnums. I mean yes they're a staple of the modern shooter but they're so often betrayed so poorly. Probably the only magnum I can remember having any real impact is Half-Life 2's. Barely any game since, not even the gun-porn that is the Modern Warfare series, has had a magnum that truly feels real in my virtual hands. I was really hoping Red Dead Redemption would get the whole Clint Eastwood thing going but the pistols in that game were lacking any real feedback, too.

Also, lightsabers. Again, they're in every Star Wars game ever made if I recall correctly (even the space sims had at least one lightsaber in there at one point), but why do they always feel like big glowing space-batons? They chop Darth Maul in half in Phantom Menace and that was a PG-rated sugar puff of a film; why can't I saw through stormtroopers like butter in The Force Unleashed? Ridiculous.

Music.

I'd love to see a game where you can kill your enemies with an acid bassline.
Brutal Legend, one of your first guitar solos is called the "Face Melter" for good reason

As far as I know the only game EVER to incorporate a balisong (butterfly knife) is TF2. It disappoints me.
That is a pretty specific weapon though. Any reason you want a weapon that specific?
I dunno. I just like using the balisong in real life, and it disappoints me that it gets so little appreciation.

Revolvers too. There aren't enough revolvers in the gaming world.

I think there should be more rocket launchers. There are plenty of games with rocket launchers in them but it's always just a special weapon and you only rarely get to use it. Borderlands is one of the few games that lets you use a rocket launcher as your primary weapon.

bayonets are underused. as well as sabers.
Problem: ones you take off a bayonet you have a knife.

I personally think that canes are underused, a good walking cane is a movement aid first and a personal defense weapon second.
Or at least that's how I feel, plus its a unique weapon used by Sly Cooper, and I love Sly Cooper and more games reminding me of it would be awesome!
Are you suggesting there be a game where you play Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson?
Call of Duty: 1812. It shall be. Canes replace knives, and Andrew Jackson is the new sgt foley. RAMIREZ!! TAKE OUT THOSE BRITS WITH MY CANE!

I think the most undeservingly disregarded weapon of all games is the disc primit.
In TRON 2.0 it gave you a guided projectile with considerable damage (if you had the megahurtz and the primit charge subroutine), a zoom function (with triangulation) and absolutely no ammo use, which was able to kill pretty much any enemy if you got a headshot in. It also doubled as a shield against other discs, which would then turn into a projectile for your cause as well, being deflected at high speed towards the enemy, breaking shields and completely shattering the attacker.

Also, with cluster and sequencer routines, it was the most versatile weapon, useable as a quick-firing assault weapon and an explosive projectile.

I like the disc :)

I want to see a game other than call-of-duty use a shotgun under-barrel attachment for an assault rifle.

Why? Because I want two guns in one that's why.

Although I did like that Black Ops also gave me the option to put a flamethrower on my gun, too bad it was terrible but I still liked that I could.

So basically I want more games to let me put other weapons on my guns, maybe in Modern Warfare 3 I'll be able to put an assault rifle on my assault rifle.

Well, Jackson is more known for the cane after he retired from the military and beating an (attempted) assailant to (near) death.
