I love me some Marvel heroes.

And with the upcoming movie has reignited my love for spider-man. (Haven't seen the movie yet, but the advertisement alone made me grab my wall-crawler comics)

However, I am a little bit ...careful when it comes to super hero video games.
So far, we haven't had that many good ones, besides Batman.

So my question is, are there any good Spider-man games out there?
I know that the Spiderman 2 movie game for the ps2 is pretty good, but anything... more...recent?

I'm not looking for an amazing game, see what I did there, just one that keeps me entertained, and lets me zip across a city with webs.

The new Amazing Spider-man game's looking pretty good, seems to have the same awesome web swinging from the older games with Arkham Asylum style combat thrown in. I remember Web of Shadows being decent as well, came out a few years ago so you could probably get it fairly cheap.

The only one I liked was Spider Man 2, and yes, I've actually played the rest. The Amazing Spider Man games looks to be an updated version of that, with some new tricks and a closer view that feels more like you actually are Spider Man, rather than the guy controlling spider man.

Also, not to nitpick, but I believe you meant "recent" not "resent" If you did mean "resent" than you might want to use the correct conjugation, ie "resentful".

Web of Shadows was pretty fun. Some reviewers didn't like it, but it was good dumb fun. Voices were terrible though.

Spiderman games have had a reputation for being good for a very long time. Back in the PS1 days, the original PS1 Spiderman game (aptly titled Spiderman) was regarded as the best superhero game of all time, and as far as I know it still was until the PS2 Spiderman 2 (which, as a movie adaptation, was different from the PS1 Spiderman 2, which was a sequel to the comic based PS1 Spiderman). In fact, the PS2 movie Spiderman games re-used a lot of the game design from the PS1 game. I can't vouch for the PS1 Spiderman 2, but I'd imagine it's also fairly solid.

Ultimate Spider-Man (it has a hyphen guys, get with the program) was decent in my opinion. Colorful characters, neat art style, lots of stuff to do in the city. Plus wrecking shit in various directions as Venom was fun.

sorry for the double post.

pleasantly surprised today, the release date of the EU version was actually the 29th, but I got my copy today, and it's actually a pretty damn fun game.

Nothing all that earth-shattering new, but really entertaining.

I got the Amazing Spider-Man game yesterday, and was up until three this morning playing it despite having to be at work by 9. I love this game. It's like Arkham City, only your protagonist isn't an emotionless hyper competent brick this time around. The voice acting is very good on the part of the major characters, though there is the inevitable problem of overly repeated lines by NPCs and eventually by Spiderman. But there's a few moments where it really shines and I found that drew me into the story.

Swinging around the city is a ton of fun, and once you figure out web rush mode you can change directions on a dime. Combat isn't quite as flowing as the batman games but still a lot of fun. You also get the feeling that Spiderman is hardly invincible, you aren't some indestructible badass obliterating the opposition. If you aren't on the ball even fighting thugs, they will own you. This is also reinforced as his suit slowly gets destroyed, though I think they took that a bit far. By the end of any major plot mission it's practically shredded. I can't help but wonder if Parker spent the last 6 months doing nothing but making spares, as I've gone through half a dozen of them already. Supposedly you can unlock more variations but I haven't found out how yet.

One problem with the game is that the boss fights are very repetitive. When its Smythe's robots, it's hit them a few times and then attack the weak point for massive damage. For the "cross-species" bosses (who are mindless monsters, which I think is unfair treatment for Scorpion and Rhino, but that could be just me) it's dodge initial attacks until you figure out the pattern, abuse them repeatedly. Scorpion was especially bad for that, never varying attack patterns despite getting smacked around over half a dozen times the exact same way. That's not to say that they're easy though. The robots especially will smack you down if you do it wrong.

In terms of the characterization, Spidey comes off as a lot more human than certain other comic book/video game protagonists. The voice acting (and better writing[footnote]Note: I am referring only to the protagonist dialogue here. Asylum and City both had their share of awesome lines, but none of them were spoken by Batman.[/footnote], but Batman's lines in both Asylum and City were always godawful) certainly helps there, but the overarching story arc basically has Spidey pushed to his limits and hanging on by his fingernails halfway through the game. What I found odd was that the villains had no respect. In the batman games the thugs were damn well terrified, and you spent both games proving that it was well founded fear. In this game, they clearly don't take spiderman seriously. Maybe it's the costume, maybe it's because Spidey is just getting started in this timeline, but it feels weird to have them showing not the slightest bit of hesitation in charging the super fast/strong/agile guy who beats up giant monsters and robots as a hobby.

I can't speak for the other spiderman games, but this one is awesome and worth checking out.

I enjoyed Shattered Dimensions,Some of the levels weren't good, some felt like stepping stones for the better levels. Noir Spider-man levels especially was painful to me, and I love Stealth games.

Web of Shadows was also good. Not the greatest game of all time but i had a great time playing it.

Ultimate Spider-man is my favorite though, Gameplay felt great, I liked the visuals and I was always fan of the Ultimate Spider-man comics. But I heard exact opposite of my opinion on this game more then once. Don't play Ultimate Spider-man on the PC though, Its just painful.

I dunno it does look good from a gameplay perspective... But there's an Amazing Spiderman film coming out this week as well. Remember movie game tie-ins guys? They suck 99% of the time.

Batman AA or AC doesn't count, it was just a Batman game. Nothing to do with some random film coming in the same month.

Nice to see how they've learned from Rocksteady though. I hope Rocksteady have opened the door for more good superhero games.

Oh off-topic but how awesome was the Harley Quinn DLC for Arkham City? So was it awesome or was it SUPER awesome?

They made Robin cooler than Batman... That's against the rules right? It has to be!

It is a movie tie in, but this is the 1% time they do not suck. They aren't trying to make "The game of the movie" rather it's related to the movie (it takes place a few months after the events of the film) in terms of being in that universe, but not so much that you're stuck playing through those events.

I would say it stacks up pretty well against Arkham City in terms of gameplay, combat, graphics, and story. It is lacking a bit in the interesting villains department (which Arkham City and Asylum had in spades), Alistair Smythe is pretty much carrying that on his own with the rest just being "RARGH! I AM NOT ACTUALLY SENTIENT! ATTACK!" A few others appear, there is a side mission involving Black Cat (who is actually one of the more annoying bosses to fight). They do seem to be setting things up for a sequel (Osborn has been mentioned to have an interest in capturing Spiderman alive, for instance) and some other hints at future antagonists. Problem is I have no clue if that's setup for the next movie or the next game... I think this game is solid enough that they could expand it out into a sequel on it's own merits and I would definitely play the hell out of such a sequel.

Also: Holy crap Arkham City DLC?! Gotta get on that...
