Favourite part of the article? This: "added Axel Rose Berg, from Alta."

Oooh, so close but no. :D

Seeing how the article states how this is the seventh failure out of 12 tests, I don't think we have much to worry about.

Would be awesome, wouldn't it? Sadly, I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future.

Besides, I thought the Russians denied any weapons tests took place. Of course, that's what they would do, I wouldn't expect them to say: "OOPS, our freaky ass organic spiral nuclear antimatter missile went rogue, haha, sorry guys".
Seems the reason why they denied it at first is because they are embarrassed over another failure. That is the reason why they aren't giving an official statement on the matter anyway. But the whole missile thing comes from a source in the Russian Army, so it is pretty certainly that.
Da fuck kind of missile does that though? Perfectly uniform pattern, and that clear? Plus the thing lasted a while with little motion. What kind of missiles are the Russkies using these days?

Russia you sly devils. There are NAVTEX warnings about a planned Russian submarine rocket launch prior to this "phenomenon" so it is definitely a rocket out of control we see here. The blue colour is light the sun reflecting/illuminating the exhaust/fuel, and the shrinking spiral is the rocket spiraling, obviously getting smaller and smaller as the object gets more and more distant. Watch the videos and you can clearly see it spiraling. People are so gullable.

I don't think the Russians would just go "Woops, our devastatingly dangerous missile we were testing went out of control..again, our bad."

Mildly curious. I think it's the beginning of a new Dante's Inferno ad, what about you?
Whatever it is, I hope the creators get a boot to the jangles if it isn't better than Cloverfield.

If it was a Russian weapons test then, there dont appear to be any after effects so its pretty poor.

I vote a hoax, a projector and a cloudy night.

If its the damn aliens again im not going to ba happy!!

It's a Russian Bulava Missile :p even Russia themselves admitted it. They say that it was a failed launch from a submarine.

Oh, so that's where it went. Sorry about that. [/Tesla]

Looks to me like it came out of a projector. There's a brighter portion of it pointing towards the ground from which it likely originated.

It's Gurren-Lagann. Humanity's gotten too large and we'll need to fight the Anti-Spirals now.

I've got my money on Megan Fox being the messenger.

Jesus, Russia is really doing some crazy stuff with their missiles. Well, at least they kept it from hitting any civilians- If you got good data and nobody got killed, I'd still call it a good test. You know some poor engineer or similar is going to get chewed out over it, though.

Woulda' been cooler if it was aliens instead, though. Or perhaps this is going to be like the Russian Roswell, where people say that the missile was just a cover story and it was really crashing aliens that got shot down or something.

You can see a beam of blue light coming from behind the mountain.

Also, the image originates from one source, also behind the mountains.

So, it's an amazing lightshow, and nothing more.

Not being a rocket scientist, this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSM-56_Bulava] is the best I can come up with.

What I think happened was that it spiraled out of control, then blew up.
What you see in that image is a photo with a long shutter speed. So you get kind of a photo of what happens over several seconds. The weird blue spiral thing going down to the ground is actually the smoke from the missile. I guess the rest is the explosion it made or something.

Dante's Inferno ad, obviously.
I think the sin it's related to, is: "oooh shiny!".
That, or someone had some free time on their hands, and brought about the apocalypse.
