Being a programmer I would have one option

1. find myself a robot
2. reprogram it
3. repeat until I have an army
4. ????
5. Profit

Sounds like there is a pretty rad town going on here. I am not very skilled in anything, minus biology, so I suppose I will live my life as a handyman, repairing things and working construction as the town expands.

The likelihood of me living through the nuclear holocaust are pretty unlikely.
Anyway... If I was allowed to live in the town- I'd be the oddjob man. (No, not Oddjob, I mean do odds and ends...)

I'd pick up my trustly L86-LSW (from my cadet armoury...), and use my shooting and limited combat skills to try and protect the town. I'd always be the first to jump up to the fight to defend us. Whether I'd be any use though...
I'd use my mechanical/engineering skills to help patch up machinery (guns, cars, etc, so long as it's mechanical) to try and ensure the town continues to function.

And then... how can I help the town with my history, politicaal studies and English :anguage?
Perhaps become the town scribe/archivist? Sort of like the BoS, but not a twat - combined with my mechanical skills, I could archive and log technology for the next generation of people.
With my knowldge of the English language, I could try to ensure future generations can communicate properly (anyone ever see Threads? I'd like to avoid that...). I could be a teacher. With my historical and political insight, I could guide our leaders - look to the darkest days of the past to avoid an even darker future. Whilst having no power, I could advise our leaders.

But like I said, I doubt I'd managed to live through the explosions or radiation...

Become a raider, rape and pillage.

If that doesn't work out, become the lawful "elected" ruler of said town.

I would start a travelling circus!

For four nights only it would stop at certain, non-threatening looking, settlements and offer the best experience in gambling to be had in the wasteland! Cards! Dice! Drinks! Acts! "Reasonable" prices!

The people of these towns will be treated to four nights and four days of drunken wonder! Fireworks and exotic dancers, fire eaters and jugglers! Not to mention a plethora of tantilising carnival classic games, and caged monstrocities from the dankest darkest parts of the most dangerous areas of the wastes! Shriek, at the horrifying mole-rats! Scream, at the morbid captive FERAL ghouls! Gasp, at the hulking great super-mutants! Laugh and jeer, at the sickening raiders (bring plenty of old fruit!).

So come one, come ALL, and forget the squalor and strife of the waste-lands for just four days as you feast and drink and laugh until you simply cant take another bite, slurp another sip or Snigger another giggle!

I am Jacob Haggarty, and welcome to the carnevale of the wastelands!

Well I've been away for a while, how's the town coming along?

My god we have become a city with more personality and charm than anything ever seen in Fallout.

Years of weapons training and fabrication skills?
Years of suvival training and experience?
A tactical mind and leading ability?
Yea. i'll be ok. not to mention my moral compass has long been broken

Edit: Forgot to mention i am an author and English major. So, that can definitely be put to use.

A student probably isn't ideal, but I could use my creative writing to help someone that intends to rule gain more support through my propaganda machine. I'd train with wasteland travellers so I could defend myself both in civilisation and the wastes, but mostly I'd live a cushy life as the left hand of a powerful leader.

I'd also have my own network of intelligence gatherers, so I have eyes and ears all over the town, everything that happens does so with my knowledge and approval, only the leader shall be able to overturn my decisions should the need arise. However, a great amount of effort would be attributed by me to hospital maintenence, education and combat effeciency for people of all ages, our little town would become a fortress and sanctuary. Do inform me if this is a little bit megalomanic...
I would hire you. As my second in command, there is nothing we can't do :p

You could use your writing skills to spread the word of my New York, and if business goes well, you will be paid large amounts of caps.
Nothing would stop us, with my influence on the people you'd quickly ascend to be the most popular and powerful leader in World history. I'd take my caps and use them to form my surveillance networks that'd keep our rule safe, then use more and whatever else I gained to pursue the charitable activities, all of which are then attributed to you. You'll be a God, and I'll be the shadow of a God, working in the dark. So long as I receive my due payments and privelages the spotlight would be yours. This World is ours!

I would scrounge/steal a gun and use it to get more resources.
Stealing as well...

If you are claiming to be benevolent, think about this real long and hard...
The wicked and bold survive, sadly.
You're a "winner" or you are dead.

I don't have any qualms about dying tho...

Im quite Subtle and light on my feet so being a thief to make my living would suffice, until i get caught and have to fight my way out (Hopefully will either have stolen a weapon or sold enough of my stolen gear to get one).

Another option would be to join a gang or find a community to live with and earn my keep that way. ive often thought of these types of scenarios, plus ive got quite good speech and persuasion irl anyway so i could always try to persuade people to follow me :3

I'd probably just help in that little eatery in Megaton.
Not the exact one but something like it along with the other cooks.
Keeping in mind I have only the most basic knowledge, but I learn quickly so that should be enough.

I'm beginning to go on the path of teaching, so I guess I would be elected as the teacher, I also have a small amount of knowledge about guns and how they work, so with some time I might be able to fix/build guns from spare parts. I do have a fair amount of knowledge when it comes to fixing and repairing computers, so when the other two areas are unfilled I may try to repair some computers or networks, try and get some useful information out of them or just to be able to use them.

Oh, and P.S. some amount of macguyver, so a pile of junk may in fact be a pile of useable treasure.

I could see myself being utterly useless in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I suppose I could be useful enough for bartering, as I'm normally good at presenting a case or raising points. I couldn't see myself being an adventurer in the wastes. I'd likely stick to the safety of a town and probably wind up buying a load of guns I wouldn't need. Perhaps I'd find myself trying to sell guns or modify them?

I'd start making a decent life for myself in the town at first. Earn enough money to buy up supplies and whatnot, and plenty of ammo. Then, I'd head out into the Wasteland or wherever when ready and seek out the Brotherhood of Steel, and join them if I can. And maybe try and reduce their anti-Ghoul tendencies a bit too. But yeah, that's my main goal. Joining the Brotherhood if at all possible...

I have guns, ammo, reloading equipment for my calibers. Im not a bad shot. I have some basic survival skills. I have plenty of reading material for survival situations. I have basic knowledge of food prep, staying hidden, outdoor shelters, plant recognition etc. Im not awesome in everything, but well rounded.

Prolly hook up with some people i trust. If their alive. Then raid some stores for equipment and leftovers, then survive as long as possible. If id ran into a clinic small village type thing, id prolly hang around for a bit. Trade und whatnot.
